    Carrying shit on their heads.
    Walking barefoot comfortably.
Giving justifications for outdated and discredited institutions.
Superstition, in variety, scope, and conviction.

I like the way you can usually sit in one restaurant eating their food, but still get something else from another nearby restaurant if you fancy it. But I think this is becoming less common, sadly.

You think that is more distinctively "Thai" than any other asian country? I personally would have to disagree there.

However, that trait may well come up against the cold hard facts of smaller families in the future.....

No chance. That particular crown would go to the balinese. I once saw a tiny slip of a girl in Bali carry two complete sets of scuba gear (tanks and all) on her head - must have topped 50Kgs, easily more than her own weight....

Make a group of skantily clad 20 something girls dancing on a stage with a pole not be erotic.

Make murder (Thai divorce) seem like suicide or an accident "Khun Barry fell on the knife. Accident. 17 Times in Back."

    Crying. They do that better.

Think it is a bit more subtle than that. The problem is that "us Westerners" are pretty much the only ones to call them in a lie. A Thai is normally far too well mannered to draw attention to the fact that the speaker has just lied.

If you do call a Thai out in a blatent lie, they get more and more flustered and make up even more outrageous lies...it can be quite fun when you know the game....

One of the best tactics of that game is to ask the same question but in a different way. It blows their mind, especially when they contradict themselves.

    As you say, quite fun.

The question wasn't what does Thailand do better than other Asian countries, it was what do they do better than us.

'Us' presumably meaning UK, USA, Australia, and other countries of origin of TD members.

They can speak Thai better than us.

And they can read and write it better, which is jolly hard.

From what i saw much more social.

Always seem to be eating together, taking care of kids together, drinking together out along the rivers, or sea front with kids in huge family groups.

In the UK at 1730 the front door shuts and the rest of the world can go hang.

    Get so wound up by a poster on a forum that as a thai person feeling aggrieved he can file charges under LM laws;

What Is The Law On Insults To The Thai People Or Country? - Page 2 - General topics - Thailand Forum

    Whoops. My bad!

actcherally, even as the #1 thaibasher on this forum, i have to say that for all the stupidity and shit one sees daily, and the ineptitude etc:

most village thais are far less useless than many farang i met in the villages.

many farang i met were too fukkn hopeless to change a bloody lightbulb themselves.

the thais would at least try:
-make a plan and somehow get the bloody thing to work, even if DID involve a mile of duct tape and a dangerous bloody connection, dozens of stripped threads, etc.
they have no clue about building, but at least will TRY, which is better than sitting back and saying: "i can't do it"
ok, they will screw it up but at the end of the day, they will have a shelter that they are happy enough to live in, and the dumb farang will be out of pocket a couple of million for the same shit but with perhaps a coat of paint on it.

you won't find somchai on the cellphone , calling the emergency number 'coz his tyre went flat on the highway...
    no.
he get's the wife or mother in law to fix it right there and then!

he's not gonna do without electricity for a day 'coz the fuse keepsn blowing:
just bridge it with thicker wire!

soidog barks all night and keeps him awake:
    does he call the rspca?
no. he just eats the fukkn thing!

credit where credit is due, i say.

...and this post doesn't mean i have changed my ways or anything like that, i still think they are a bunch of lazy stoopid bloody clowns with no manners, but i DO respect the way they will make a plan and somehow end up with some kind of result that at least a thai could be reasonably happy with , whereas a dumb farang would pay good money for the same shit job, and then squeal about how he got done.
