Any suggestions for our noise pollution problem ?

I've got a noise pollution problem. The wife and I live in apartments that have been here for many years, in an out-of-town area which used to be quiet.
Not too long ago a restaurant opened up nearby and it plays music till early in the morning on our side of the apartments. It doesn't happen EVERY night, but when it does, it can be ANY bloody night. On Sunday night they had a live guitarist (amplified) till 1am Monday morning, and Monday night, slightly less loud recorded music till 2am.
It's not INCREDIBLY loud, but does intrude enough to disturb other (Thai) people here. And I don't like to shut the windows/doors as I like to BREATHE, and can't sleep with air-con.
Some people from our apartment block have previously been over there to chat politely with the owner but the music only stopped for one night. Someone else here thinks he pays off the police.
The other night I got my wife to call the local police station but the officer there said he could come out and have a word, but that the music would probably get turned up again later, so it was pointless.....even though we were the 4th people to complain that night.
He did however volunteer the information that the restaurant only had a permit to be a restaurant and not a live music venue. Interesting.....
After having had people from here visit already, the owner is obviously not going to be reasonable.
Does anyone know someone high up in the Bangkok police force who we could appeal to ? Or perhaps have a better suggestion ?

I'd have to fire off a few to get the range
Oh, I've had all kinds of dark fantasies, but I don't want to get into a situation which escalates nastily.
Like my relations with ENT did

Are your apartments a condo? If so get the juristic person to file a formal complaint with the police.

    Good luck with that.

I had some mental midgets behind my house building a whole neighborhood with pay loaders, jack hammers and all sorts of loud construction almost 24 / 7. We called thee cops and they asked "What can we do?".

I finally moved to a quiet place on a huge lot with a nice wall all the way around the house. I pay more, but 8 to 9 hours of uninterrupted a night is priceless!

But was too lazy to do his job and stop the guy putting on 'entertainment' which was unlicensed?

    It seems so.
The juristic person muttered something about meeting the owner but of course nothing's happened. This place can't even get their act together to send a guy up to drill out a rusty screw holding on a cover on something.
I'm a very light sleeper and am going to explode if something doesn't get done soon. The Molotov solution does have it's appeal.

Get all the residents to chip in 50 baht each and then hop over to the restaurant with cash in hand.
Give it to the guitarist and request him to play only well-known western lullabys from 11pm onwards.
    Everyone's a winner!

Sorry I don't have a serious answer for you. I feel your pain.
Sleep ranks up there with air and a steady stream of sex for me.

    Goodluck with the outcome.

Or maybe he was throwing out a clue as to how to move forward...

Perhaps the grunt behind the desk was hinting that complaining about the noise wasn't going to go anywhere, but filing a complaint about unlicensed entertainment might.

Oh yes....that stands to reason. Thanks for the suggestion. Mind you, it could also net the BIB a bigger payoff

Mostly those dark fantasies run through my head. I have the same problem once in a while with the village head blaring his reports on the speaker near my house. I hope you figure a solution. Thais can be really selfish about their ways/culture.

Culture is often used as an excuse for silliness.

    Nothing cultural about this situation.
Hampsha, loudspeakers can be muted by midnight sabotage. You could even install your own volume control inline Or remote

I don't want to escalate this situation because I've seen firsthand and heard online what happens when Westerners confront Thais. And the timid Thais in this condo have not managed to do anything.
Currently my best idea is to get something written in Thai, and post it downstairs, saying there is a meeting about the matter for all affected residents, giving a time and place in the condo......but without anything identifying myself. And making a casual appearance with my wife, hoping they can arrange the proverbial piss-up in the brewery. Though I doubt it.

This is wise. Send a copy by EMS to your local Or Bor Tor or Tessabaan or whatever too.

They seem to hate getting more papers to deal with!

a horses head on the doorstep, however the chef may not believe his luck and there may be a considerably wider choice on the menu that evening?

A quicker solution perhaps? Don't forget to send the restaurant owner the bill

Who are the more stupid, the thais for doing what they always have and always will or the farangs immigrants who endlessly criticise it but don't have anywhere better to live?

You just have to be forceful about it.

I've dealt with this several times.

Fact is, it pisses everyone off not just you, but Thais "Greng Jai". Plus we all know they could sleep next to an Evening Standard seller on speed .
If you get fobbed off by 1 desk jockey police man go down to the station and bend the bosses ear (in a sensible manner)

Sorry, I know noise is the worst neighbour.

You could try cutting your head off, that way you wouldn't have to worry about your breathing problems or the noise.
