Happy New Zealand Day 6th Feb 1840

Today we celebrate for the 167th time the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi

This is the founding document of New Zealand as a nation, given legal effect in its incorporation into various statutes, particularly for environmental and resource management. By the Treaty, Māori ceded to the Crown the right to govern, and in return the Crown confirmed and guaranteed the rangatiratanga of tangata whenua.
cheers to all my fellow kiwis who enter today through the Teak Door...

    Cheers Klongmaster,
I brought, some nice big marinated mussles, a vac packed kiwi lamb roast for today. I ws going to dig a pit for a Hangi but maybe too much trouble as my wife and kids don't eat lamb, so just a BBQ.

Easy to fix that.Throw in some chicken and pork and save the lamb for yourself.

guaranteed the rangatiratanga of tangata whenua.
I am sure this is a very solemn promise, but why does it conjure up the image of the Queen saying in a posh accent to a row of natives dancing silly poses in straw skirts to Benny Hill type music, 'Yeeees, we shall let you carry on with your local customs while we bring home the valuable merchandise.'

Once the treaty was signed, somebody screamed 'Everybody do the rangatiratanga!!!' [cue: raunchy saxophones, enter scantily clad maori dancers and Benny Hill trying to pinch their butts in high speed].

Anyways, Happy New Zealand day, bros. May you never run out of lamb and pavlova.

I could have said 'hope you'll never run out of hangi' but that really is overrated so I hope you do run out and discover something tastier.

All depends how it's cooked and what vegges are used skully.Commercial ones at Hotels etc are normally shite. They are net everybodys cup o' tea,but a good one is hard to beat.

The old man used to throw in truck loads of garlic and some herbs etc...never tasted lamb so tender.

Well, if you think you can prove me wrong I wouldn't mind trying again... The one I had was in Rotoroa - big tourist gimmick and not cheap. Taste... bland, uninspired. But I can see how it depends on the cook.
