Hence the booming Thai medical tourism industry.
I'm in hospital now after having my wisdom teeth out 3 hours ago.

    Cost around $1200 AUD.

In Thailand cost around 3 baht.

Today was busy. I have to say my GF is a such a great sport. She loves to try new things without any qualms about it whatsoever. I dug out a few of my toys to play with.

I dusted off the Suzuki Eiger ATV and we went for some burns around the property. She rides very well. She had to muscle it a bit because it was a 4wd and going through the pond area she almost got stuck.

Later I took out one of my shotguns and we did some target and skeet shooting. She did pretty darn good. Her shoulder was a bit sore after but we all had some good laughs.

We visited the huge sportsman shop and she really wants to go camping and fishing. Great store to browse for anything and everything.

After a hard day of playing what better way then to burn a few hours at the local Casino. She did not like it as she did not win but it was fun to watch her try.

Tomorrow off to Mt Lassen for some sightseeing and some fishing on the Hat River.

You're lucky. My wife also won't gamble as she hates losing. About 30 minutes in a casino in Macau and she was done - and that was 15 years ago.

Wife and I don't do the casino's as well. Way more losers than winners.

Thanks for sharing JPPR2. Was that Tahoe?

My wife also enjoys target shooting. I maintain my membership at the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Hunter's and Angler's Sports Club and we have gone shooting there as well as the Thai Marine's target range at Samersan just a few short 5 kilo or so down the road from the house.

I do hope she doesn't get into shooting things though. One of my rare beefs with the USA is so many people there like shooting poor animals.

Man is a hunter and gatherer. Going out on a hunt for some wild game seems legit to me if the kill is to be eaten. What is slightly disturbing though is maiming an animal and not being able to locate it.

Excellent OP and for once a well balanced and thoughtful analysis from the septics.

As a Brit, I too could never understand why Americans flee their country for the LoS. If Pittsburgh becomes unendurable then just up sticks and head for, well, take your pick. To choose this silly country with its deceitful society, dreadful climate and appallingly poor quality of food, consumer products and equally poor service standards over any number of states always struck me as somewhat perverse. Those who do, presumably have a streak of masochism but maybe they're just exercising a wanderlust their forefathers passed onto them. Who knows why? It beats me.

In comparison, we Brits have to suffer a climate as unreliable as a politician's word and a level of taxation only a society utterly addicted to welfare could levy.My decision to relocate on retirement was made years ago although choice of wife has dictated the destination which would have been somewhere on the Iberian peninsula otherwise.

I have no doubt you and your wife have made a sound decision.

Man I forgot about food portion sizes in the US. I am not sure why it has to be the way it is. A typical single portion out at dinner is enough to feed a family of 4. It is loaded with high carbs, very few vegetables and simply way too much food. Of course you are expected to eat it all as people see it as waste. It really explains the obesity in this country. People also seem to eat on very rigid schedules, not when they are hungry. My GF and I are sharing dinners now as we simply could not eat all the food. We have gotten a few stares when ordering 1 meal but we simply do not care. Eating out in the US is extremely expensive unlike Thailand. You can eat well here in the US and quite affordably if you stay out of the restaurants

It will be nice to be off the travel road and settle into to our place to get back to eating more practically.

Absolutely. I have enjoyed hunting, fishing, backpacking and hiking and always will. I only hunt animals with feathers and ate all I shot. I am now a catch and release fisherman for the most part unless the Trout get hurts. Been doing that since I was about 10.

Here is a funny little story. Yesterday I hit a Turkey while returning to the house. Simply unavoidable. I quickly pulled over and chased the crippled bird down. Being this is a game bird I rung its neck to put it out of its misery, tossed it in the bed of the truck and headed to the house. My GF helped me pluck it and we prepped it. We BBQ'd the bird and it was awesome. who said "Road Kill" cant taste good. . The bird contact did cost me $139 for a new head light assy on the truck.

    After plucking

Seasoned and ready for the BBQ

    All done and ready.

What a load of bumph, North America is a Continent and has several different climates, I don't know how long since you have ventured back Gent, but you too can choose to live in the Continent you hail from now, it's called Europe, which has many climates and wonders also, much more cultural than the states too

Good thread. One aspect tht makes me happy to be in rural N Thaiand is how clean and safe it is.Sure Rds are bad driving standards and hospitals below US standards (I know Santa Barbara Hospital services), I always felt nervous hiking and caming alone and the general level of random violence in American cities inclusing the centre of San Francisco and LA.Although the cops here have a bad reputation I have never had any problems so far and immigration are far more couteous than US counterparts. Thanks for a good well thought out analysis and I guess like me the right place to be is next to a good woman.

    More pics, Mt Lassen

Today was absolutely perfect weather. About 78 degree, blue skies. The drive to Mt Lassen was about an hour east from my Uncles place. When reaching Mt Lassen it was only 66 degrees but perfect to walk and hike. First time my GF has seen Snow let alone touch it and moreover try and do things at 6800ft altitude. Was funny to watch her gasp for air. We trekked up a few trails but not to far. Most of the snow was melted at basin which was fine and the creeks and lakes were full of crystal clear ice cold water.

Mt Lassen where the road ended.

GF holding a snowball which BTW was heaved at me shortly after the picture

Lake at base leaving the park at around 5000 ft. It was teaming with tons of trout at the inlet where the run off water enters. This is a catch and release fly fishing lake only.

Snow run off water in Hat Creek. I have caught a ton of fish along this creek over my years. Rainbows, German browns and Cutthroats
