Best chance Cook has had to milk cheap runs for a long time. This Indian bowling is third string. Conditions docile ..

Cook 5-1-0 when winning toss and batting.

I agree LT I would like to see him stick to a few...... All other posts here just sound like the usual yap yap yap.

Come on Wally,Captain Cook weathers the storm and dominates the fine Indian bowling attack.
Down on the coast with hot humid conditions keep the ball on a good length should give you a bit of late swing, last time i played in conditions like today the ball was seaming and swinging away.Ball was rising up over the keepers head i got 5 good wickets that day.
Headlines tomorrow,Aussie's start to panic as Captain cook finally finds some form lets hope our bowlers understand its their job to take wickets.

Bummer! Didn't quite make his ton but 95 and a fine innings in the circumstances.

30 minutes in the 90's playing 28 balls but who can blame him. I'm genuinely pleased to see the man back in form. He may have achieved that earlier had he not held on to the captaincy for grim death. Mind you, nothing much to think about when you open the batting after winning the toss.

I'm right here KT - and sorry, but I still think we are seeing classic Cook & Bell by them both cashing in on cheap runs. Yes, this pitch is doing more but India have basically gone into this test with 2 bowlers ( one on debut ) and a part timer. A lot has been said about Cook's captaincy but Dohni is also a poor test captain. Cook may have gotten a bit of confidence from getting a few runs, but he still has to face quality bowling sooner or later

If Cook has a problem he should set the bowling machine up to put the ball in the spot he feels uneasy.Practice an hour a day get your eye in and some rhythm then get the teams best 2 bowlers to bowl at you and take it from there.
I am not keen on having Cook as Captain but he is a good batsman if/when he finds some form again.

Not sure if a bowling machine is much help when you have to face guys like Johnson, Harris, Steyn etc. in the middle as you just can't replicate match conditions enough.

Facing Broad and Anderson in the nets is good practice when facing teams like Indian who don't bowl over the 135kph mark so often - as Broad and Anderson don't, but it's not going to help you when facing quality bowling.

The statistics don't lie. Cook is a flat track bully against weak bowling.

In 60 test he averages 30 against the top 4 bowling sides Batting records | Test matches | Cricinfo Statsguru | ESPN Cricinfo

Against the 4 bottom bowling sides his average is almost 60 Batting records | Test matches | Cricinfo Statsguru | ESPN Cricinfo

Of course you have to expect there to be a difference, but Cook's case is too lop sided. He doesn't have a great record against any good bowling side, and has a great record against every poor bowling side. The trend is clear. he struggles against decent bowling.

70 runs for Cook yesterday! Some would say a selfish knock with so many dot balls when the aim was too chalk up fast runs for the team, but who am I to say

Can this be true, that there's a batsman who scores more runs against weaker bowling attacks than he does against stronger ones?

The true greats of the game scored runs against the best bowling line ups. If Alastair faced the same bowling as Allan Border he would average far less

Hughes is banging on the door so hard he will be in the team as soon as Rodgers is late for a piss

He certainly does deserve a third chance to not crumble in front of the Poms with his poor technique....

Job done, Cook back on track, perfect captaincy.... he'll be all the stronger for this experience.

In the long run it may have all been worth it.

    we'll see....

Just been wandering through the bookshop and cam across Ricky Ponting's autobiography. A massive piece of work, obviously lots of stats and tables as well.

Hughes is still only 25. People forget he was only 19 when he was hitting century after century in English county cricket. He was put back into state cricket to iron out his flaws and score runs. Same as CA did with guys like Hayden and Clarke, and they turned out ok. He should have been picked ahead of Marsh IMHO, but I have a feeling he has already been earmarked as a replacement for Rodgers.

Job done, Cook back on track, perfect captaincy....
OK. If you say so Bob

Yes, he did have a nice start there with Middlesex, of course once they sussed him out he failed totally in the following test series averaging 19.00....

But fair play he wasn't discouraged, he went back to County Cricket for another stint and averaged...... 14.16.....

A third stint really saw him come good.....he got his average to just over 35.......

    Top Notch player is Hughes.
