Tendency is to see these people as automatons and forget there's a person there going through person shit just like the rest of us.
As an aside and for what little it's worth even prior to this Hooper somehow managed to achieve the rare feat of going from being roundly detested in NZ rugby circles to being massively respected--it's quite remarkable really. Quade Cooper being another although slightly less so maybe.
