Davis it is all about the guy. I believe I am right in thinking you are a US citizen and ex armed forces so you might find something in it. 1/2oz of Patriotism etc..

If on the other hand you don't give a toss about who the guy marries , whether he calls his girlfriend/wife from the front line, whether he is there for the birth of his son, whether he takes his kid hunting like his father took him hunting. whether he loses it and tried to kill the family dog, whether he does or does shoot kids carrying grenades.. et al then...

It depends a lot on what other movies you have to chose from. But it is not a "war" movie.

^Sounds like everything I hate in a movie. I was hesitant about even downloading it, but now that I have, I'll take a quick look.

Downloaded "Imitation Game' last night. There is a virtual cornucopia of good movie releases right now. At least 6 I want to download. This one is about Alan Turing & the gang at Bletchley park that broke all the Nazi codes. Stars Benedict Cumberbatch. LINK: The Imitation Game (2014) - IMDb

I didn't say he did or did not do any of the things I mentioned some of which may or may not be fictitious.

They are simply examples of the chick flick/ "Christmas release" movie that it is.

I already said it is not a war movie. If that spoiled it, sorry.

^Just watched it. I didn't think it was all that bad. It's not one I'll keep, and there were parts that irritated me, and parts I zipped through, but all in all, I'd give it a 6/10 - not as a war movie, but as a biography.

U I haven't watched it yet, but I haven't seen a badly directed Clint Eastwood movie yet.

As for the genre and coming from a military background myself where my dad a cook in the army took out about 150 seals and penguins after being posted to the Falklands after it had finished, I'm looking forward to it

Jake Gyllenhall is one creepy MF in 'Nightcrawler'. It's about a freelance video reporter in LA selling footage of crimes, fires, & accidents etc. I quite enjoyed his dialog which all seemed like it was copied from 'how to get ahead' books. 7.5/10 LINK: Nightcrawler (2014) - IMDb

    Marco Polo...

Great new series about Marco Polo staying in the east, highly fictional and entertaining, you get to see a wide range of nude Asian women.

    Testament of Youth (2014)

Considered one of the greatest war memoirs ever written, the Testament of Youth is a true-life account of Vera Brittian's life from 1914 - 1918, and a chronicle of how the First World War affected not only her, but the nation's lives.

One of the things that determines Testament of Youth different to other bloody, explosive and bullet-ridden war tales is that it is focused on the domestic view of the ones who not only joined the war on the front-line, but also those at home and the consequent effects on loved ones, offering an unseen perspective, and solid-account of the despair that war causes.

Beginning in pre-war 1914, we are introduced to Vera Brittain, a determined and wilful individual with aspirations of not becoming just a traditional young-married women, but one who attends Oxford University and chooses her own life-choices.

Along with her brother Edward (Taron Egerton) and his two friends Victor (Colin Morgan) and Geoffrey (Jonathan Bailey), they all enjoy their youth in the rural village with their parents (Dominic West and Emily Fox). On-the-road to Oxford, she is introduced to her brothers close friend Roland (Kit Harington), and a relationship soon breaks out
but untimely, as does the war.

Quite proud to do so out of loyalty to Queen and country, her brother Edward, and friends Victor and Geoffrey with Roland all sign up to the forces to assist. (Against parental wishes to do so). Now at Oxford, yet unable to focus as this devastation is happening all around her, she joins the forces too, as a nurse - and the film develops from there.

Given a world-premiere at the 58th BFI London Film Festival, the film is squeezed out in time for the Remembrance holidays and by-all accounts award season. Based on our criticism alone, it is going to be praised and remembered at both.

Crafted by former TV-movie director, James Kent, along with the (brilliant) cast, Testament of Youth is a thoroughly engaging history drama in Downton Abbey-esqe war times and a unique approach to the war like never before.

Testament of Youth (2014) - IMDb

Read the book and without a doubt one of the best I've read on the subject of the First World War and it's devastating effects. Look forward to watching the film.

KickAss. "Great Escapes and Prison Breaks". A History Channel production. Ten one-hour episodes. I've watched two so far, both on WW2. Some fascinating stories.

Bit slow downloading - not a lot of seeders on some segments. I downloaded most of them overnight. Done six now and just finishing up the rest.

Hard to rate - I really like history stuff with lots of old photos...depends on your taste.

Some episodes are war, some criminal.

At this time of year a copy of the film is distributed to people that judge awards like the Oscar and Golden Globe for assessment.. they usually end up in the hands of pirates then copied for the internet.
