Have you ever read 'The Forgotton Soldier' by Guy Sajer?

It's one of the finest war memoirs ever written, partly because he is a German soldier, on the losing side, on the Eastern Front.

It's brutal and mesmerising at the same time, the YouTube vid above reminded me of it, as there are passages in the book where he recounts the fear as an infantryman, taking on Russian tanks and having to stand his ground until they were in very close range.

I've read the book several times, it is unforgetable.
