Tonight I had my second attempt at replicating the delicious baked chicken breast in a brie and bacon sauce I had in Dorset a few weeks ago.
Dinner
After a morning's gardening and near heatstroke I decided to quickly pop over to Makro where I had been advised I could find some brie... normally a 45 minute round trip for a small shop.
The b@stard battery was flat. I've been away for a week during which I don't think the car was driven, but even so, a bit of a worry for a two year old battery. The gardener was out so I had to call him and tortuously explain what the problem was. My Thai doesn't run to technical problems.
Anyway, half an hour later...
Off we set and arrived at Makro, While walking from the car park I checked my wallet to make sure I had the Makro card... but my wallet wasn't where it should have been in my left pocket. I then remembered that I'd left it on the shelf outside the house and had forgotten to pick it up in all the excitement of jump starting the Vigo. So back home we went, and back to Makro again. My mood now not as good as earlier.
At least they had the bladdy brie... two types in fact and despite sounding a bit Danish I went for the Emborg and saved myself 20 Baht.
We arrived home with the brie two and a half hours after the trip was first thought about... not the 45 minutes I had expected.
Anyway, as usual the meal was a disaster. The chicken was overcooked and the chips were under cooked. The brie and bacon sauce came out like dollops of mashed potato. I get very little pleasure out of cooking these days and I wish I'd just taken a steak and kidney pie out of the freezer.

Take the rough with the smooth, we all have bad days .
Some more than most.
Variety is the key.
Ditch the meat and three veg for a week and try a different dish everyday for a week.

Maybe some sautéed mushrooms, garlic, and onion to go in the pasta. Rather than a side of corn. Gotta get your garlic bread carbs going as well.![]()
I had a reasonably good but very expensive Ploughmans last night. However, the cheddar was bloody marvellous.
They also had this on tap, which I decided to give a go after reading Mendip's recommendation on here.
Can anyone name the castle in the background in Ye Olde England (there are actually two)?

How did you find it?
I could tell some stories about ferretting along the Wrington-Blagdon rail line embankment where the Butcombe Brewery is now located, not to mention the old Cleeves hay barn, demolished to make way for the brewery. I never got a girl up there but still, good memories.
Edit: to put some meat on the bone. I used to ferret regularly along the old embankment for the railway line between Wrington and Blagdon. Rabbits love to burrow in railway embankments because the earth is usually recently moved, unconsolidated, so easy to burrow in.
One time I lost Salt (I had Salt, an albino hob and Pepper, a polecat) when the the wind from the 1987 Michael Fish storm blew the the top off my ferret hutch. Anyway, Salt was found by a dog walker two weeks later... fat as a butcher's dog. My mum had put an advert in the village post office... not normally done with a ferret as they cause havoc among pet chickens and rabbits and are usually deniable once lost... but my mum loved that ferret.
So did I!
This all happened right where the Butcombe Brewer is now located!
