Everything needs more mayo. And more bacon.

    The fickle hand of fate.

We've just had two new chicks hatch down in the chicken run.

    Not these...

Still, you can't save 'em all.

Poached eggs on toast is probably my favorite breakfast.

All you can eat breakfast buffet £6.99!

One item of each for me, very nice.

Some lardies can get through a mountain of food at these buffets, makes you wonder how the establishments make a profit.

The sausages were so nice I took half a dozen home for the lucky dogs breakfast ..

Not today, but maybe over the next few days. A recent foray into the world of Bao led to a commitment to Misskit that I would attempt a stuffed Bao bun rather than the folder variety. Here's the first attempt, with a vegetarian filling in homage to M'Sahib. Bok Choy and shitake mushrooms, marinaded in a sauce of sesame oil, light soy sauce, sugar and salt.

Blanching the bok choy for 15 seconds before running under coldish water.

Mushrooms fried, and most of the water removed from the bok choy.

Mixed in a blender, then the sauce added.

Making the dough for the buns.

After kneading for 15 minutes, then under cover in a bowl for an hour.

Here's the 'fun' part. After dividing into 10 roughly equal pieces, rolled into circles, a good spoonful of filling in the middle, and using a pleating technique to close up the buns at the top. The first few were rough, mainly because I was trying top too much filling in, but gradually got better.

When all made, rested for about 20 minutes before being steamed. Not my kind of filling, but at least the buns held together.

Bet you won't find this in Cannes.

Sadly I barely made a dent in it.

Would you take a look at that!

    Chapeau!

The fried bread in all its glory ready to be smothered with the finest legumes known to man...all topped off with lashings of HP.

I hope you got a doggy bag at least.

^ I managed to eat the bacon and sausage, oh... and the black pudding. And the egg and mushrooms, and most of the tomatoes, but only about half of the beans. And I only had one bite of the fried bread owing to my diet, and I left the toast.

Tomorrow I'm going to ask for a mini full English.

Well, you've inspired me to put a couple of sausages in and have a 2nd breakfast.

Or a sausage butty for lunch if we're being technical.

Very nice breakfasts but what's gone wrong with the world??

When was it deemed acceptable and common practice to put baked beans in a side bowl??

^^ I agree Joe but as Snake pointed out, it is the size of my plates that I have issue with. I'm on the case for some oversized plates as we speak.

    With no spoon.

Do you lift the bowl up and drink the bean-slurry like tea?

Or just lift it up and eat the actual bowl while at it.

Like the sort of savages that would put this in their bodies at 8am

(it does look good mind )

^ I've never heard of that before... I often use a banana as a scoop for yoghurt but never bacon as a scoop for beans. I guess it works with decent back bacon in the UK but I wouldn't like to try it with the thin, floppy strips of streaky bacon in Thailand.

I've become a big fan of the oval-shaped plate and will be looking for a few when I get back home.

Here was my breakfast today... despite my English roots I asked for no baked beans as I sometimes find the bean flavour a bit dominating. I had no fried bread on health grounds and only one slice of toast. This was manageable.

You can buy those oval shaped plates for a couple of quid each at most supermarkets, make a nice present for the missus.
