Laverbread, that will stir some dementia memories in Head Hunter and the other David but shame he's left
Erm, nope its Welsh. Seaweed, but they may harvest it in Ireland also. Its the Welsh equivalent of Nori. My uncle and grandfather always suited used to go on the town in Swansea on the family buses and stop by the market - pick up a half pound of Laverbread in paper and stick it in their pocket. Trouble is after a few and on the way home they'd start dipping into it. The result is green teeth, green pockets and a green o'clock shadow - so my mum said.![]()
my mum and welsh family would get me mounted by a ram for this - i trim the fat off which you traditionally sweat off the bacon and heat the Laverbread in and then add to the rest of the lard cooked eggs, bread and toms. i trimmed the fat off and heated the bacon in water to float the nitrites out (fookin hate it) and then gently fry in sunflower before adding the Laverbread dumped on toast. - love it - never forget you are half Welshbit Hal i still fooking hate Pikeys.

my nan used to fry em in the bacon fat and roll the laverbread in oats like you said![]()
Strangest looking bread I've ever seen. A bit misleading...similar to sweetbread being misleading.
