Thread: Ants in the sugar pot!

Normally i buy sachets of sugar but last week when I was out buying sugar for Noodles's Rice Pud thread, i decided to buy a bag of sugar and a decent tub to keep it in.

I picked up a tuperware style pot with a screw top lid that I thought would do the job and I even tested it with water to make sure there were were no leaks.

Tonight I've come home and the bloody ants have a trail going right up to the pot and around the screw thread of the pot straight into the sugar. Mother fuckers!

How do you guys keep them out/ Or do you just go for the sachets?

Put the pot into a shallow plate of water.

But I use a snap locked tupperware box, no issues now.

Genius! That's the kind of thing that grandmothers know!

Have the same problem, bloody Ants get into everything, Even zip lock bags. Only solution for me is to keep all the stuff they are attracted to in the fridge.

I should have done that. The sugar has even become a bit sticky over the last week because of the humidity.

Just do what Thais do...Eat the ants too!

yep, my sugar is kept in the fridge, along with any other thing the little cunts like to much on.

I was thinking sugar pot was some British slang for homo.

Eveytime I make a cup of tea, I have to check for ants. Usually there are a few floating about....

^ Always rinse the pot out before you use it.
I used a lot of recycled glass jars for food storage, too. But agree, refrigerate stuff in packets. Or do a sugar water DDT mix in a bowl and leave it outside far away.

who uses a kettle? I just use the hot water dispenser....

cheeky git, you'll be getting some reds if you keep that up!

I use an old Moccona cofee jar. It has one of those really close fittin smooth platsic seals and it seems to work just fine.
Same problem with cereals once they have been opened. Plastic tupperware container with lever locks on to seal it up.
I always mak sure the little woman cleans work tops and under the microwave every day.

Ants are natures cleanup machines....leave em alone.

I have bought the sealed sachets, which I know were sealed because no sugar was leaking out, but when I poured them into my tea, there were live and dead ants floating there. Insects seem to be the real owners of Thailand if not the World.

Actually, I've had the same problem with these critters. You can also try putting the tupperware in a platic bag then giving the open end a good twist and popping on an elastic band. Also, spray all the shelves and surfaces with a kitchen spray to wipe out their scent trails.
Finaly, i mixed up a little sugar water in a dish and put it outside the backdoor for them. When enough have gathered KILL 'EM then repeat throughout the day until you thin them out some.

This shit works well at keeping the ants away, is ECO friendly, i spray it on me dog and missus to keep the fleas under control.
