Officials also say they can't confirm that food poisoning was the cause of death of New Zealander Sarah Carter.

They say more blood tests are needed from two friends who were travelling with her last month.
Then one suggests they contact the NZ health authorities and provide them with information regarding the tests they require.

Or are they too embarrassed to ask?

Who does own that hotel group anyway? I mean the Downtown is nice and all, but it's not exactly palatial.

I see, just because you have not heard of these deaths means that it didn't happen....

I read another article which stated that a total of 4 people died at this hotel in a 1 week period, all within days of the NZ woman's death...
    yes from Bangkok Post
1 . Feb 3 Thai tour guide Waraporn Yingmahasaranont, 47,
    2. Feb 18 Sarah Carter, 23,
    3 & 4 . Feb 19 George Everly, 78, and Elean Everly, 74,

The other 'death' of an American , was just 'reported ' by a poster , on someones blog .
Me saying i had never heard of it, was just my way of saying its probably bollox
Not only did that post that I found on thailawforum saying a farang had died in Chiang Mai on Jan 11 prove to be correct, it turns out she was a tour guide, as was the Thai woman who died a few weeks later. *Two* tour guides. What are the chances of that being a coincidence?

Is it my imagination or are a high percentage of the victims on Koh Phi Phi and, now, Chiang Mai, are lovely young Western women tourists?
Yes you called that right , Drummond rooted the facts out.

Foreign Minister Murray McCully is demanding answers over the death of Kiwi Sarah Carter in Thailand.
Chiang Mai authorities yesterday said the cause of death for three tourists, including Carter, 23, remains mystery. It was thought she died of food poisoning.
McCully said the reponse from officials was ''less than fully convincing so we are going to ask the appropriate further questions.'' He now wants ''further scrutiny.''
Some further forensic work is still to be done on samples, he said. ''We are looking forward to seeing that too.''
Asked if New Zealand should conduct its own investigation, he said ''lets not get ahead of ourselves.''
'''Let's just ask the questions methodically . It's a very sad case obviously...the obvious questions need to be asked and answered fully.''
Thai officials yesterday said they couldn't confirm food poisoning killed Carter. More blood tests are required from two friends who were travelling with her.
The Wellington woman was one of four guests at a city hotel over a three week period last month.

at least 13 'unexplained' deaths (not counting balcony 'falls')

MYSTERY DEATHS: Chiang Mai, Thailand 2010

Jan 11, American Mariam Soraya Vorster, a 33-year-old from Seattle working as a guide in Chiang Mai, staying in an as-yet unnamed hotel.

Feb 3: Waraporn Pungmahisiranon found dead in room 516, Downtown Inn

Feb 4: Sarah Carter found sick in room 518, Downtown Inn. She died in hospital on Feb 6

Feb 19: George and Eileen Everitt found dead in room 42, Downtown Inn

below is a quote from MustavaMond from last year regarding unexplained deaths on Koh Phi Phi and Phuket and Krabi, all died around the same time. It is worthwhile to remember all the victims below and to add them to the recent five deaths in Chiang Mai.

So what harrybarracuda is telling us--if you click on his link above--is that the owning family of the Downtown Inn has the same last name as the mayor of Chiang Mai, Tassanai Buranupakorn.

Would a rival to the Buranupakorns "get even", or try and sabotage their business interests by murdering guests in Buranupakorn's hotels?

I doubt it will make it that far. I and others have been bombarding the relevant authorities asking them to pull their fingers out. Frankly journalists are mostly self serving scum, and Drummond has only commented on this because he's managed to sell a few stories around the world. He has got a family and living to take care of, in fairness.

I don't have those limitations. And bloody oath I will be in there asking questions in a few weeks.

And if name dropping English Noodles doesn't like it, the pompous twat can go and do other medically improbable things to himself, the arse licker.

Perhaps we have been spoilt watching CSI style crime dramas where the investigators really care about solving the crime and see it as a challenge ,
makes it strange watching these hapless Thai clowns whom you can see just want the whole thing to go away.

why did not the NZ authorities do a post mortem ?

    ref the video
what a irritating accent ! don't they realise how weird they sound
how can they imagine that pronouncing the word death - as dith . is cool

Pressure's increasing on Thai authorities as relatives in the UK and US join New Zealand authorities in calling for answers over the unexplained deaths of five people.
One of them is Auckland woman Sarah Carter. All five stayed at the same hotel in Chiang Mai.
Bangkok journalist Andrew Drummond says the "coincidence" line being run by authorities isn't washing with relatives of victims.
"I think the fact that the Governor of Chiang Mai, the Head of Police and the Chief Medical Officer of the city turned up together at a press conference to try and allay fears, something which they don't seem to have done, suggests it has become a major political issue," he told Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking this morning.
Mr Drummond says there have been no post-mortem results at all. Some tests have been sent to the US and Japan for analysis.
America joins the war late (as usual).

Custom made story for a tabloid journo like Drummond. Expect to see lines about about terrified Brit tourists cowering under beds.

I wonder if this can be verified, because if it can then there's something quite fishy going on, and I don't mean the soup at Kalare either.

I think you will find that The senior pathologist who cqrried out the autopsy is a member of the Buranupakorn family.
Not quite sure if Dr. Evil here is being serious or just made a glib comment after a couple of sherries.

Survivor of Thai poisoning gives blood samples

By Stuart Dye 5:30 AM Friday Mar 11, 2011
A survivor of the Thailand poisonings has been asked to supply more blood samples to help uncover the cause of five deaths in six weeks.
Amanda Eliason was left in intensive care after falling ill in a Chiang Mai hotel room together with friends Sarah Carter and Emma Langlands.
The 23-year-old pulled through after undergoing a heart procedure and is now back in New Zealand.
Her father, Peter Eliason, yesterday said Amanda would supply more blood for Thai health officials.
They have said the deaths of Sarah Carter, two other tourists and a local woman are "nothing more than coincidence".
A fifth death, at another hotel nearby, is so far unexplained.
Mr Eliason said that was very difficult to believe and Amanda hoped her blood samples could provide some clues.
"We just want to get to the bottom of it and stop the possibility of it happening in the future.

"When I was over there I asked how many similar cases they had and I was told, 'Not many'.
"You just wonder now what is being covered up."
Amanda, Sarah and Emma became sick in the Downtown Inn in Chiang Mai on February 4. Sarah died in hospital two days later.
It has since emerged that British pensioners George and Eileen Everitt and local woman Waraporn Pungmahisiranon died in similar mysterious circumstances in the same hotel within two weeks of Sarah.
And a fifth woman - 33-year-old America tourist Mariam Soraya Vorster - died three weeks earlier in similar circumstances, though she was not staying at the same hotel.
Tests on tissue taken from Sarah have now been sent to experts in the United States and Japan.
NZ Foreign Minister Murray McCully hopes to get information from Chiang Mai health authorities in the next few days.
"We're seeking whatever forensic information might be available and that's something we'll work our way through over the next few days," a ministerial spokesman said.
Mr McCully did not need to send Foreign Affairs and Trade officials to Chiang Mai because New Zealand had a "very good" official in the ambassador in Bangkok.
"He has been asked to ensure that we extract the required information."
    - Additional reporting NZPA
