    British woman stabbed in Thailand

    British woman stabbed in Thailand

A 31-year-old British woman has been found stabbed to death in a guest house on the Thai holiday island of Phuket.

The body of Debra O'Hanlon, from Kettering, Northants, was found at a flat on the island of Phuket.

It was understood that the teacher had flown out three days ago to visit a former boyfriend on the holiday island.

Police in Thailand were said to be looking for her 32-year-old ex-boyfriend, also from the UK, in connection with her death.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said officers were assisting the Foreign Office in connection with the death.

A Foreign Office spokesman on Wednesday said the victim's next of kin had now been informed.

The British Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, said the woman's body was found in Patong at 2am local time on Tuesday.

"We are in contact with the Thai authorities but we cannot confirm details of the ongoing police investigation," an embassy spokesman added.

Ms O'Hanlon is reported to have run a bar on Phuket with her ex-boyfriend in the past.

She is said to have returned to the UK after the business went bankrupt following last December's tsunami disaster.

Ms O'Hanlon had taught at King's Cliffe Endowed School, in Peterborough, and it is understood she was due to begin a new term as acting deputy headteacher at Wollaston School, in Wellingborough.

    Man admits holiday island killing

Paul Chetwynd-Talbot was arrested and sent for medical treatment
The former boyfriend of a British teacher who was stabbed to death in Thailand has reportedly confessed to police, the BBC has learned.

Paul Chetwynd-Talbot, 32, from Bristol, gave himself up to police at 8pm Thai time on Wednesday, said BBC Asian Correspondent Jonathan Head.

He had earlier attempted to slash his wrists after the death, police said.
Thai police are saying he came into the police station and admitted he'd beaten her.

    Relative 'disowns' Phuket killer

Paul Chetwynd-Talbot said he had argued with Miss O'Hanlon
A relative of a British man who has confessed to killing his ex-girlfriend in Phuket said he was a "terrible boy" disowned by his family.

"I do remember him when he was growing up and he was a terrible boy. I don't have any link to him. I don't consider him a relative or a grandson. He's nothing to do with me."
Yep, nice to know that your family are behind you in a matter such as this. I mean he hasn't been tried yet has he, all the police have is a confession that they no doubt beat out of him.

'I was drunk' says Phuket killer

Paul Chetwynd-Talbot says the pair were arguing
The former boyfriend of a teacher found dead in Thailand has told the BBC he killed her when he was drunk.

The body of Debra O'Hanlon, 31, from Kettering, Northamptonshire, was found at a guesthouse in Phuket on Tuesday.

Paul Chetwynd-Talbot, 32, of Bristol, who gave himself up to police on Wednesday, said they were both drunk when they had a "stupid" argument.

He told BBC East's Sally Chidzoy he believes Miss O'Hanlon's neck broke when he threw her on a bed.

"Ten minutes earlier we were with friends laughing and joking in the pub. The room in which she was found in was covered in blood - all of that blood was mine. I didn't want to carry on living.
I walked towards the bathroom, she slapped me, I grabbed her hand and tossed her onto the bed.
