British woman stabbed in Thailand

A 31-year-old British woman has been found stabbed to death in a guest house on the Thai holiday island of Phuket.

The body of Debra O'Hanlon, from Kettering, Northants, was found at a flat on the island of Phuket.

It was understood that the teacher had flown out three days ago to visit a former boyfriend on the holiday island.

Police in Thailand were said to be looking for her 32-year-old ex-boyfriend, also from the UK, in connection with her death.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said officers were assisting the Foreign Office in connection with the death.

A Foreign Office spokesman on Wednesday said the victim's next of kin had now been informed.

The British Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, said the woman's body was found in Patong at 2am local time on Tuesday.

"We are in contact with the Thai authorities but we cannot confirm details of the ongoing police investigation," an embassy spokesman added.

Ms O'Hanlon is reported to have run a bar on Phuket with her ex-boyfriend in the past.

She is said to have returned to the UK after the business went bankrupt following last December's tsunami disaster.

Ms O'Hanlon had taught at King's Cliffe Endowed School, in Peterborough, and it is understood she was due to begin a new term as acting deputy headteacher at Wollaston School, in Wellingborough.
