A 14-year-old boy shot himself to death with his grandfather’s pistol, reportedly after he had fallen victim to an online scam which conned him into transferring a large amount of money from his grandfather’s bank account.


The tragic incident was reported in Khlong Khern district ofThailand’s eastern province of Chachoengsao province.


The boy’s father, whose name is being withheld, reportedly told the police that he his son had become highly stressed and felt guilty after he had been conned into transferring several hundred thousand baht to the scammers.


He said that, when he returned home Saturday night, his son was not there. He asked his father to check whether his gun was still in his room. When the gun was found to be missing, he started looking for his son in the compound of his house, which is next to a small canal where his son’s body was found.


The gun was later recovered from the canal. One bullet had been fired.
