Are you the type that thinks speculation is of poor taste ?

I am not. What happened , happened. I'm not trying to be an expert at all. I am just speculating because its interesting and of course , tragic. With the search going on for days now with nothing, a shallow grave is a possibility unfortunately.

With the evidence we have at hand, what do you think happened here ?

Obviously there's a high chance she was abducted, and history suggests the abductors will have killed her to ensure no witnesses.

But leaving the valuables laying around? That's odd.

I see no news of any helicopter search to see if she went for a swim and had an accident. That would surely not take long to rule out, although I don't know what the currents are like around Koh Rong.

Yes, odd is the word.

Too much unknown to speculate too much, but belongings left on the beach could suggest drowning. But going swimming alone at 4 in morning would also be odd, you would think. If something like LSD was involved, it would make more sense.

Guess we will find out in the coming days. Pretty sure, whatever happened, the outcome is going to be grim

I truly believe the prevalence of meth amphetamines - or yabba, has changed society for the worst in SE Asia especially. I took it 2 or 3 times 20 years ago or so, and it made me into a sex maniac. I am non-violent and had plenty of Japanese dollies on call way back then so raping somebody would never cross my mind, but because I took the drug, I understand the extreme sexual urge the drug induces.

Mix that with lack of education and disrespect for the law, which is common for the lower class in the region, then it seems plausible that the drug could very well cause an uneducated lower class person to lose control - and commit rape.

I am of the belief that along with Thaksin's "Johnny Foreigner is the cause of social problems" agenda which he pushed, and the massive problem that Thailand (and the region) has with meth amphetamine drugs, is a large reason as to why the relaxed "mai pen rai" attitude of Thais is a thing of the past.

What I am saying is - if this girl was raped and murdered by a local, then drugs and ignorance could be a factor.

Somebody told me a story about a Japanese girl, 14 or 15 years old, who used the drug for a week. She jumped off her balcony and killed herself to stop the voices. I had a taxi driver in BKK masturbating as he drove me home - he was manic and flippant and became aggressive when I told him to stop so I could get out. He was high on yabba without doubt. Just a couple of examples, but you can bet your life that many of the stories you read of Thais doing crazy things are related to the `crazy drug` as it was dubbed in the media in LOS as.

Nonsense, speed is a fairly useful, relatively cheap drug for the masses in that it helps to distract them from the unpalatable truth their lives are utterly meaningless and devoid of any prospects that might enrich their experience before they die in squalor.

As long as they remember to eat and get some sleep from time to time most muddle on through.

The father of a British tourist who disappeared on a Cambodian holiday island disputes a police theory she drowned during a post-party swim.

The heartbroken dad of a missing British backpacker on a Cambodian holiday island insists his daughter was snatched, disputing a police theory she drowned on a night-time swim.

Phil Bambridge, the father of missing tourist Amelia Bambridge, has flown to Cambodia to lead the search for his 21-year-old daughter, The Sun reports.

He said he disagreed with police who say she drowned in the early hours of the morning after attending a beach party.

“We were getting conflicting times of when she got there,” Mr Bambridge told Sky News.

“I don’t think she’s in the sea, I think she’s inland somewhere.

“I think someone’s taken her. I don’t think she’s had an accident. If she’d had an accident she would have been found.”

If her bag was found neatly placed on a rock, it would suggest no struggle and perhaps she did go for a dip that went wrong.

If it was just thrown down somewhere, the other options are favoured.

She hasn't just evaporated, so sniffer dogs would probably have found a trail by now.

I think the sea option is favourite.

Amelia Bambridge: three questioned as Cambodia search for UK backpacker widens

Men are thought to be locals but no arrests made, as sniffer dogs and extra boats brought in.

Amelia Bambridge, 21, has not been seen since she attended a party in the early hours of 24 October.

Cambodian officials looking for Amelia Bambridge, the British woman missing on Koh Rong island since Thursday, are focusing their search on fishing boats and have interviewed three men about her disappearance.

Bambridge, 21, from Sussex, was last seen at around 3am on Thursday at a beach party. Nearly 150 Cambodian officials plus seven volunteers have been searching the island and surrounding areas since Saturday.

Three men, believed to be Cambodians, were placed in handcuffs by police on the island on Monday and taken for questioning.

Volunteer search party organisers said it was common for local police to handcuff people without arresting them. A Koh Rong official working with police told the Guardian that there had been no arrests related to the search.

Officers told Ben Warner, who is leading the volunteer search team, that the three men had not been linked to the party Bambridge was believed to have gone missing from. CCTV showed that she arrived at the event at around 2am, but she was not filmed leaving.

The Guardian understands that at least one of the three men worked at a hostel on Koh Rong. On Monday Harry Bambridge, Amelia’s brother, was accompanied by police as he searched the man’s possessions in the hostel.

If she had gotten into difficulties while swimming then her body would have washed up somewhere by now, one would have thought. Abduction is the Occam's choice and they simply missed the bag leaving it in situ.
