Indeed. Im finding it hard to get my head around the idea of approving of my 21 year old daughter to go on her very first trip abroad, by herself, to SE Asia. That's just too young with no enough experience.
She was probably way too good of a time and got disillusioned. This is where experience or travel mates would have kicked in. She had neither.
The liberation of the structured existence in the west. Plus the absence of her social hierarchy back home. She was just 3 years out of highschool. Just the idea of making new friends so easily with strangers , without all the baggage back home, was probably a huge rush. Its really too much to absorb with one hit.
