BANGKOK, 18th February 2018 (NNT) – The Prime Minister is urging people with disabilities to prepare to register themselves with the government when the process opens again.
Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha said today that the government has continued to fairly implement the state welfare program for the people of Thailand, especially for some 1.8 million people with disabilities in the country.
The PM said that data from the latest state welfare registration showed only about 700,000 people with disabilities had registered themselves to receive benefits, and the government still needs to verify if they are all low-income earners.
In addition, it was found that over 25,000 registered people who have disabilities have never officially signed up for the official cards for the handicapped. Consequently, they have not accessed the benefits they are entitled to.
Gen. Prayut said that he has already instructed the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to work with all provincial service centers for the handicapped, and all related organizations to hasten assistance to those in need and to allow those, who are still missing out, to register themselves.
