BANGKOK, 25 December 2017 (NNT) – Another cold snap is forecast in the upper regions of Thailand from tomorrow through to the weekend, prompting many provinces to help residents prepare for the wintry condition.
According to the Meteorological Department, a high-pressure trough is spreading down from China to the Northeast of Thailand and the South China Sea, causing the upper parts of the Kingdom, including Bangkok and its vicinity, to continue to experience cold weather, with the presence of fog in some areas. From tomorrow until December 29, temperatures are projected to lower 1-3 degrees Celsius before another 2-4 degree plunge between December 30 and 31.
In a bid to help residents stay warm this winter, Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima Wichian Chantharanothai has given out blankets and winter clothing to elderly people in various villages of Si Khiu district. The Provincial Administrative Organization and local public health officials have also been instructed to continuously check on the health of the senior residents.
In the northern province of Uthai Thani, soldiers from the Mobile Development Unit 15 of the Armed Forces Development Command were deployed to help six families of the Karen hill tribe repair and renovate their homes so that they could be sheltered from the winter breeze.
Meanwhile, over 300 macaques in Seka district of Bueng Kan province fled from the cold forest to warm themselves in the sun in a local community. Many villagers kindly fed the monkeys as food has become scarce in the forest after the start of the dry season.
