Rabies prevention program underway in Udon Thani

UDON THANI, 27 July 2017 (NNT) - Inspector General of the Prime Minister’s Office Isra Sirivarapa and his subordinates observed the progress of a rabies prevention program in Udon Thani.

Isra was informed in a meeting that at least 10,585 rabies patients have been treated since the beginning of this year. He was told that 433 of 46,411 dogs in the province are stray dogs and 29 out of 4,704 cats do not have an owner.

The rabies prevention program was launched in response to the wish of Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walairak. Since the start of the program, more than 27,000 dogs and 2,200 cats in Udon Thani have been registered. All 180 local administrative organizations are participating in the program.

The Inspector General later traveled to Nhon Soong sub-district to observe the construction of an animal shelter in the 13th Artillery Battalion. The shelter will provide care for stray cats and dogs that are often found in tourist sites, temples and schools.

is this a joke, only 433 soi dogs in Udon? There are more than that sitting outside 7/11's alone, ridiculous. The real number is in the thousands.

Did the rabies thing around here a couple of months back. They only did the animals that owners brought to the crew that were doing the injections. A load of bollix and a total waste of time and money IMO.

Only way to to stop rabies is to register all owned dogs with the dog being given shots a collar and a registration number which the owner pays for, cost of owning a dog.

After a set time, one or two months any dog without a registration collar is rounded up and impounded. Impounded dogs not claimed within a week are put down. This is an ongoing process with dog rangers employed.

^^ Same here. I don't think it is a waste of time, though. A lot of people won't bother with having their animals injected unless it is free. Better some of the dogs get rabies protection than none.

A Buddhist cannot kill unless the animal is to be eaten. Eating dog in Thailand is banned.

Owner paying? I don't see that happening.

Subordinates, now I know why many men in Thailand like Female domination sex. It's a workers fantasy played out each day in real life. I wonder if S & M is big here also? Haven't seen any rubber shops selling the gear, still bet they make that kinky sh1t out here with all the latex rubber they manufacture.

Just pissing in the wind as usual, there are about 4.000.000 strays in the country, injecting a few hundred, or thousand domestic yappers is going to do fuk all to combat rabies. Strays need to be culled on a massive scale, they will not do it though.

Easy done. Buy some sheet rubber and get some local tailor to knock you up a suit. Should only take a couple o' days.

I do hope so, otherwise it's going to have to be purchased on amazon from Amsterdam on-line.

That is in theory, there are many other things they are not supposed to do either but they are still done.

Owner paying? I don't see that happening.
Happens in other countries and if they dont register their dog (s) they get them taken off them.

Yeah. Public health concerns and programs such as these should certainly be offered free of charge as an extension of the greater commons in mind.

Encouraging the community to comply, as a whole, would be the difficult task.
I can imagine that a greater percentage of Thais wouldn't be bothered to bring their canine pets to a designated locale for specific inoculations.

It would be the responsibility of such health authorities to go from neighborhood to neighborhood and proceed with their business.

I can't see the Thais being bothered about that. This is Thailand and nobody really gives a fcuk about dog welfare. A dog dies you just get another from the temple.

Then don't get another dog from the temple. Buy a cat instead. I have a cat and they don't need a lot of taking care of. You should try cats Pragmatic. They are quite comforting at night sat on your lap, purring.

I've never acquired a dog from a temple. I like to know what it'll turn into once it matures. Cats, I hate the fcuking things. As for having one sitting on my lap at night purring, I have a wife who does that.
