UDON THANI, 27 July 2017 (NNT) - Inspector General of the Prime Minister’s Office Isra Sirivarapa and his subordinates observed the progress of a rabies prevention program in Udon Thani.

Isra was informed in a meeting that at least 10,585 rabies patients have been treated since the beginning of this year. He was told that 433 of 46,411 dogs in the province are stray dogs and 29 out of 4,704 cats do not have an owner.

The rabies prevention program was launched in response to the wish of Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walairak. Since the start of the program, more than 27,000 dogs and 2,200 cats in Udon Thani have been registered. All 180 local administrative organizations are participating in the program.

The Inspector General later traveled to Nhon Soong sub-district to observe the construction of an animal shelter in the 13th Artillery Battalion. The shelter will provide care for stray cats and dogs that are often found in tourist sites, temples and schools.
