Tourists visiting Phu Rua national park have left the popular tourist spot with a huge waste of over 10 tons in six days of the New Year festival.

Park chief Ronnapob Kachamat revealed today that from the period of December 30 last year to January 4 this year, more than 30,000 tourists visited Phu Rua.

They dumped over 10 tons of garbage behind in six days.

The huge dumping prompted park officials to mobilise workers to help collecting them for disposal.

He said that although the park has launched a campaign to encourage participation from tourists to bring some of their wastes for disposal at homes, only two tons of waste could be removed as more than 1,000 tourists joined the campaign.

The remaining waste would be disposed of through recycling, and for resale with the cooperation from Nong Bua Tambon Local Administration.

Phu Kradueng national park also faced the same waste problem. But about 360 tourists joined the campaign and could remove 94 kilograms of waste for disposal at homes.
