Waste problem at Phu Rua national park during New Year festival

Tourists visiting Phu Rua national park have left the popular tourist spot with a huge waste of over 10 tons in six days of the New Year festival.

Park chief Ronnapob Kachamat revealed today that from the period of December 30 last year to January 4 this year, more than 30,000 tourists visited Phu Rua.

They dumped over 10 tons of garbage behind in six days.

The huge dumping prompted park officials to mobilise workers to help collecting them for disposal.

He said that although the park has launched a campaign to encourage participation from tourists to bring some of their wastes for disposal at homes, only two tons of waste could be removed as more than 1,000 tourists joined the campaign.

The remaining waste would be disposed of through recycling, and for resale with the cooperation from Nong Bua Tambon Local Administration.

Phu Kradueng national park also faced the same waste problem. But about 360 tourists joined the campaign and could remove 94 kilograms of waste for disposal at homes.

Waste of time picking it up and disposing of it. Should just leave it scattered everywhere to improve the scenery and remind Thais of the beautiful bi products of civilization.
They love garbage.. They must do . They always leave mountains of it wherever the go. It's a cultural thing. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and to the average Thai, hordes of people milling around and dropping rubbish is the absolute zenith of a beautiful experience.

I'm not sure why this made the "news" on Thai PBS or what the point of the Thai PBS article is. If they allow thousands of tourists to visit somewhere, those visitors will eat and drink and have waste that needs to be disposed of. Normal. Surely there were waste bins or waste collection/drop off points provided.

Or just deny entry to Farang - the greatest instigator of mindless waste and more than likely the principle culprits.

    Damn Foreigners.

Ridden through Khao Yai NP many times and have witnessed on a few occassions the passenger of a vehicle in front of me throw bags of rubbish out of the window and into the undergrowth. Twice I've seen it done just a few kms from the head quarters where they have waste bins.
Seen the same thing done on the approach to my mubaan in Bangkok.

    Damn Thais.

I went camping recently and I was pleasantly surprised to see people clearing up after themselves and disposing of their rubbish, bagging it up and taking it to the place designated for it. Of course, it wasn't perfect but overall the Thais did a good job and were responsible with their rubbish, IMO.
