Once the Iron capital of the world, Merthyr Tydfil breathes life into its history with attractions such as Cyfarthfa Park, which is home to Cyfarthfa Castle Museum & Art Gallery, Joseph Parry's Cottage and Brecon Mountain Railway to name but a few."

There is no zoo in Merthyr Tydfil but I will visit and take photographs and place them on this thread. It lacks the scenic beauty of places like Ramsgate, Margate, Bradford, Slough, Croydon et al but it is not that bad, in fact it is pretty good. Watch this space !

i couldnt find anything about merthyr landfils zoo, but i did come across these stories.

Women were seen fighting over Disney Frozen merchandise during the opening of a new Poundworld store in Merthyr Tydfil.

More than 2,000 people flocked to shop on Wednesday on what was one of the company’s most popular store openings to date.

Shoppers queued for more than an hour before the store opened at 10am to take advantage of the stock on offer – which included sought after merchandise from the blockbuster film.

Due to high demand the stock was limited to 50 items per customer and goods including Frozen lip balms, money tins and stationery sold out in less than 40 minutes.

Demand was so high that women were seen scrapping for the goods as they began to run out.

No arrests were made and police did not need to attend the store, which is located at the former WHSmith shop on Market Square.

Store manager Duncan Tiller said: “The response has been incredible – we’ve had over 2,000 customers on our first day which is unbelievable.

“Our Disney Frozen range has gone down amazingly well, customers can’t get enough of it. I’ve seen baskets piled high with Frozen stuff and I’ve even seen grown women fighting over it.

“We were totally cleaned out of everything in less than 40 minutes but thankfully we’ve got more stock arriving every day.

“We’re so delighted and we’d like to thank shoppers for their support.”

The company expects a record 10,000 shoppers through its doors across the opening weekend.

As part of the opening celebrations customers are invited to meet Olaf the Snowman, from Frozen, who will be at the store until Sunday.

The store is Poundworld’s first in the town and has created 30 new jobs.

In all my travels around the UK, the only place that came near to rivalling Merthyr for its profoundly depressing air of desolation enveloping a shabby, ugly, beaten down people consigned to trudge their aimless lives through a decaying townscape eaten away by impending bankruptcy was Grimsby.

Dreadful really. But I suppose the millions in benefits heaped upon their sagging shoulders will have brightened things up a bit, eh?

    Not.

Actually, can anyone really imagine the utter impoverishment of a life whereby spending an hour outside a Poundland store in the rain might seem an attractive or bearable prospect? Those people truly are a separate species. Ugly, fat, stupid, dull and desperately futile bags for food........Christ, just looking at them makes me depressed.
