BANGKOK, 30 April 2016 (NNT) - The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has voiced its readiness to go ahead with its power security plan, as it marks its 47th anniversary.
EGAT Governor Sunchai Kamnunset, has announced that EGAT is speeding up the Thailand Power Development Plan (PDP) for 2015-2036, which entails the construction of new power plants and the use of alternative energy.
Mr. Sunchai disclosed that the coal power plant project would continue, confirming that the operation would be based strictly on clean technologies and accepted environmental management practices.
He said that alternative energy would help lessen the risk of power shortages resulting from the sharp increase in the demand for electricity at present. The country currently produces 38,838 mega watts of electricity, around 40 percent of which is supplied by the EGAT.
