Pattaya tourists 'walk of shame' video draws netizens ire

A video showing how many sex workers a tourist has to encounter on his way to a Pattaya beach was heavily criticized by Thai netizens after it was shared on Liveleak.

The two-minute video, sarcastically titled "A beautiful morning walk to the beach," shows dolled-up ladyboys approaching the cameraman and flirting with him in a red light district which a user identified as Soi 6 in South Pattaya.

Honestly, it didn't look like he was going to the beach.

The video has received over 150,000 views on YouTube and has been heavily slammed by Thai users.

"This is not truth in Thailand. You tourists make Thailand look bad because you choose to go to places like this and never experience the real normal Thai community," a Thai channel which reposted the viral video wrote.

“These places are dirty and all you see is foreigners and prostitutes everywhere. You ever wonder why normal Thai people are not there. That's because we are not dumb. Don't ever think that this is normal Thailand."

"You go temple you will see monk [sic]," user Miko Bebe wrote. “You go office you will see working woman. You go school you will see student. If you go bar Pattaya you will see the hole girl (But 99% in clip is ladyboy) The place that you go is you are.”

Other users seemed amused by the sex tourist’s supposed amazement over his morning walk.

"Easy guys, he just got too excited. Clearly, no one wants him back in his country," Kaewthai wrote.

I always thought it was because you always do your skanks at places like Ratchapradisek, but maybe that's just me.

the thai cannot stand the seedier side of their sleazy country exposed for what it is.

so long as the sleaze is hidden, covered, not on show, then so far as "normal" thais go, they will not have to confront the awful realities of their society, they just dont exist, and if they do then they are just for the foreigners, and life is happy in their perfect shiny facebook barbie doll world.

The Thai propensity for denial is as profound as their inability to deal with the reality it seeks to conceal.

The country is riven with prostitution with scarcely a town or village which does not offer commercial sex somewhere, yet when confronted with the reality they seek to confine it to some aberrant venue blaming it all on those "dirty" farang.

Their hypocrisy is all the more repellent for its nasty nationalism rooted in ignorance and stupidity.

Pattaya of course doesn't actually have prostitutes - all these girls, transvestites, transexuals and the boys in Boyztown are really simply entertainers, hostesses and waitresses.

Similarly, in Bangkok, Patpong, Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy are all entertainment zones featuring the same rich pageant of leisure workers and Soi 7/1 is simply a street in which they specialise in a unique health service involving oral massage.

There are famous incidents of Thai generals (army and police) and PMs walking around Silom claiming it a fake goods free zone, aswellas walking around Pattaya claiming it a prostitute free zone.

They've done it, on TV and they hardly get ridiculed by the indigenous population; not even the smarter ones. Welcome to Thailand...

Not as bad as western grandads in shorts and singlets drooling over and pawing young farmers daughters 40 years their junior on beach road, surely one of the most stomach churning sights in the country.

I have to wonder why someone who has obviously not traveled much has to post a video of themselves in a den of iniquity.

It says more about the videographer and poster than it does about Pattaya.

One could make a similar video in Amsterdam or Hamburg or...

Any news on the nationality of the poster? Are we starting a poll.

^^^A while ago the "Children & Women's Foundation" Founder and President "Paveena Hongsakul", a former beauty queen and politician did a famous 'fact-finding' tour of Pattaya, and uttered the rather Lord Nelson-esque statement "I see no prostitutes"..

What's that big river in Africa called again.?

^ they do it all the time.

^^ the point is not the inane and obvious video, the point is the reaction to it from Thais...

^^^ Go visit the goldfish bowls in every Thai town, or just looking at Somchai and his son Somchai jnr drinking whiskey up in the boonies while they send their daughters down to Pattaya to send back funds, or you could just look at the Thai pimps, police, government officials, etc in Pattaya and everywhere else, that run the trade. &, you could, if you wanted to, look back at the history of Thailand before the dreaded whiteman turned up and see the instances of sex slavery, rape etc. On the subject of rape, you could ask around Thai society and try to find out the real rape statistics (My wife, and all of the Thai women I worked with would not get in a taxi alone in Thailand due to the fear of rape).

Or, you could choose the Thai route:

    Step 1: denial.
    Step 2: blame the foreigner.

But you'd have to be a stupid kunt, imho...

I suppose the unique attraction of Thailand is that it is socially acceptable for a monger to be seen about the place with his whore. That is of course as a direct consequence of Thai society denying that these women are in fact common prostitutes.

Although I quite agree, observing obese, wrinkled, hirsute geriatrics, half naked and dressed as if they were children again, parading about the urban landscape is nauseating, with or without their whores. Pattaya Central/Jomtien is home to them and there it is.

Which of course is infinitely worse than the trafficking of Burmese children (boys and girls) for the delectation of members of the Thai population.

The majority of the trafficking victims identified within Thailand are migrants from Thailand’s neighboring countries in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, but also come from farther away such as Uzbekistan and Fiji. These migrants are forced, coerced, or defrauded into labor or commercial sexual exploitation. They are often fleeing conditions of poverty, or in the case of Burmese migrants, which make up the bulk of migrants in Thailand, from military repression. Conservative estimates have this population numbering in the tens of thousands of victims.

Trafficking victims in Thailand are found employed in maritime fishing, seafood processing, low-end garment production, and domestic work. Children from neighboring countries are forced to sell flowers, beg, or work in agriculture or domestic service in urban areas. Evidence suggests that the trafficking of men, women, and children into these sectors represent a significant portion of all labor trafficking in Thailand.

Child prostitution also remains a problem. According to government officials, academics, and NGO representatives, children (both boys and girls), especially among migrant populations, were sometimes forced, coerced, or lured into prostitution.
Does that make your stomach churn?

Kind of makes me feel like going on Agoda and grabbing a room in Pattaya for a couple of nights.

Self righteous bastard, I hope the Thais figure out who he is and throw his ass off a hotel balcony. It's just this kind of shit that causes my sister in law to not let my brother come and visit.

Most of the reactions from Thais I read are perfectly sensible. 'Go to a temple and you'll see monks, go to Pattaya and you'll see hookers' etc. A few are plainly prejudiced generalisations and silly comments about 'What foreigners are like'.

These few are seized upon by TD's resident documentarians of detritus as summing up 'What Thais are like'.

    Like forces repel.
