Lottery Winner Rushes to Police Station With 8m Baht Winning Tickets

CityNews – A Chiang Mai woman who won eight million baht on the lottery last week rushed to a police station with her winning tickets as she was scared of losing them.

Sriploy Saengboon, 61, of Sarapee district, said she wanted the police to record the ticket numbers as evidence.

The clothes shop worker said she bought two tickets with the number nine after making merit at nine temples in Isaan during Buddhist Lent. She believes her win was thanks to her making merit.

Police Lieutenant-Colonel Kanongsak Kusol of Sarapee Police Station is pictured with Sriploy's winning tickets.

Invoking the power of Buddha is surely cheating and could invalidate the ticket?

Best to check the small print before blabbing to the press.

It's a wonder she didn't 'lose' the tickets by taking them to the police station.

Mental arithmatic time for Kanongsak. "Hmmm 8,000,000 baht. My charge for the police report, 3,000,000 baht. My charge for holding the ticket and taking a picture, 1,000,000 baht. Because this lady doing this is very spurious, it is wasting my time, so she will be charged for wasting police time and some drugs will be found as well, so she will face 15 years in prison or pay a fine of.. umm... 3 million baht. I might as well hit her with a defamation charge as well for daring to think I am honest, so that will be 2 million baht to settle it. So, she owes me 1,000,000 baht on top of me keeping this ticket, and as she has no money to pay it I will take her house, and put her in prison for failing to pay a debt. As I resisted taking bribe also, the government will give me 10,000 baht on top. Lucky day - promotion on its way"/
