'Bad Romance': Lady Gaga's Indonesia Concert Canceled, National Police Say
More than 50,000 of Indonesia's "Little Monsters" have lost their chance to see Lady Gaga perform in Jakarta after the National Police declined to issue the concert a permit on Tuesday.
"The National Police said verbally that [the concert] would not be permitted," Jakarta police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said. "The letter will be made later."
The decision was made after the Jakarta Police recommended canceling the June 3 concert earlier this week.
“Many parties opposed it,” Rikwanto said.
Indonesia's hard-line Islamist organizations have mobilized against the sold-out concert, claiming that the singer, known for her revealing outfits and suggestive dance moves, will corrupt the nation's youth. The Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) called Lady Gaga a "dangerous" influence and threatened to use force to prevent the pop star from stepping off her plane. Others, like the Muslim Defenders Team, claimed the pop star teaches fans to worship Satan.
More than 52,000 tickets have been sold for Lady Gaga's concert at Jakarta's Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. Concert promoter Big Daddy just released an additional 2,000 tickets on Monday.
The concert's promoter was not available for immediate comment.
