Phuket Police 'keeping an eye' on Bandido members

Police 'keeping an eye' on Bandido members

PHUKET: Police have reported that members of the Bandidos, a notorious international motorcycle gang branded in Canada and the US as an organised criminal gang, are currently in Phuket.

The Superintendent of Kathu police station, Pol Col Sermpan Sirikong, reported in a meeting today (May 30) of the Phuket Security Committee that the gang haven’t yet caused any trouble.

Most of them have come in as tourists, or are behind businesses such as bars or night clubs in Patong, with Thais as their front men, Col Sermpan.

He said police have been keeping an eye on the gang since first being alerted to their presence a few months ago.

The Bandidos hit the Thai headlines six years ago when a Dane, two Britons and a Thai surveyor were arrested for allegedly being involvement in turning large tracts of government land into sites for property development.

The theory at the time was that the proceeds from the Bandidos’ criminal activities elsewhere were to be laundered by ploughing them into property on Samui.

They were charged with extortion, money laundering to the tune of B3 billion and six counts of illegal sale of public land.

The surveyor was accused of supplied forged land documents.

Eventually all the cases were dropped for lack of hard evidence, but by that time the property development was dead.

Plainly, however, Phuket police believe there is no smoke without fire, and will be keeping a close watch on the bikers.

Not a very secure way of hiding money by investing in a property development in Thailand.

Trusting a Thai in a crooked scheme is like doing a deal with the devil.

    You will be burned eventually.

^Don't know about that - they've made billions off of controlling the meth trade in the US for decades.

^ No doubt. You don't need business acumen to deal in meth just braun. It's even easy to manufacture. How much of the billions made from meth has been squandered in bad legitimate business deals?

I know brokers in Australia lick their chops when brute organized criminals seek financial advice.

I've no doubt that that suited the people who were behind the charges being made.

It was a simple scheme on Samui, money [cash] was brought in to pay for the development. When the properties were sold the money was transferred [Farang] from the buyers bank to sellers bank in the EU. Clean money after that. jim

A bit more on the subject here from resent news.

Danish and Thai Police Chasing Bikers

    18 May 2012 |
news Dennis KrogAccording to the Danish newspaper, Politiken, Danish Motorcycle gangs, Hells Angels and Bandidos, are getting more visible in Thailand, but now a cooperation between the Danish and the Thai police is set to keep a close eye on the bikers, who are known for a wide variety of criminal activities in Denmark.
“The motorcycle gangs can forget setting up Thailand as a base for their criminal activities. In both Denmark and Thailand there is a strong will to fight the kind of crimes these gangs are known for. We are now sharing information and we are willing to assist the Thai police in specific cases as well,” says Kim Kliver, Head of the National investigations center of the Danish Police.
The Danish police are very much aware of the fact that Thailand could be seen as the perfect place to hide money as well as supplying the bikers with drugs and women for prostitution.
“Women from Asia are the largest group of women being trafficked to Denmark, and because of that we will be very much on our toes to see if the bikers are showing interest of getting in to that business as well,” says Kim Kliver.
According to the Danish paper, the Danish bikers are mostly operating in Thailand and Pattaya.

ScandAsia has covered the police cooperation in the previous news:

There has been continued cooperation between the Danish special police group on biker-gangs and the Thai police, they have been largely successful in stopping previous attempts from the bikers to openly set up full fledged patch wearing clubs out here, but have forced the bikers ( Danish Bandidos and HA) to keep a pretty low profile and their dealings low key apart from the big Phuket land swindle case a while back, Thai police officers have been in Denmark already way back around the time of the (great Nordic bikergang war) when they first tried to set up shop in Bangkok but was discouraged by the Thai authorities Thai style , and several times since to be briefed on ways to deal with the Danish contingent of those guys.

Thailand certainly dont need to import more mafia style groups, they will be kept adequately busy by the Russians once they feel they have solid foundations enough out here to turn up the heat and play a bit rougher.
