Islam, the claimed religeon of peace, only advocates peace for their adherents and some select groups, namely "believers in Allah, the Jews and Xtians and those who worship Allah by any of a list of approved names.

Problem is though, I could do them under the shoddy goods act as I didn't get a job on the same level as I had in UK, as promised, and Oz was nutin' like UK, as we were led to believe!

^^ How the Hell could you ever believe that the U.K. could be anything like Oz??? Weather, population, weather, multi-culturism (of a different make-up), weather, lifestlye, weather, etc,???
I'm not sure about the job situation, but I know for a fact that the (many) mines in Queensland are chasing 'skilled workers' and are happy to pay BIG money for them. 'Promises' are one thing, but acceptance of those "promises' is something else!

I didn't believe the Oz Imm mate, I just went along with the tango for ten quid, back in '66. My missus at the time wanted the deal, but it is a fact that the pommie migrants were told to expect housing and social structure just like UK. Plenty of jobs allright, but not the job I was told I'd get.

I was a credit control manager for large international company in UK, but got offered a job as postie in Oz instead. Tough, too bad, but that's what happened.

Got a shock when I arrived, but adjusted quick and dug Oz for 6 years, worked all over NSW and Qld, then went to NZ and fell in love with the place.

Sheet Taj el-Din al Hillarity is now back tracking as fast as his short arse will allow him. Last night he was on the news telling us all what a great country OZ was.
His sheep followers are now talking about tossing him and his fvcking bed sheet out when the next nomination come up because even these morons can see what an embarrassing cvnt he is.

There you go, thinking as one who was brought up with principles!

Ok, tell him to like it or lump it if it makes you feel better, though it changes nothing. Sure he could piss off, and he probably knows that without being told, but why should he move from freedoms and rights and state benefits, to a squalid shanty under some repressive regime?

Life is fcuking easy for him and his ilk throughout the civilised world, with similar shameless outpourings far from isolated incidents, but the niceties of democracy encourages those with a real or perceived or manufactured gripe to leave decency behind - and with impunity.

    That's just silly.

You probably could have got a job on the same level if you had put any effort into finding it, instead of waiting to be 'offered' a job.

And anyone who thought that Australian was just like the UK must have had rocks in his head. They prolly meant that we eat rice pudding and mash too.

Oz under its WhiteOz policy in the 60s was desparate for anyone white, ....so the 10 pound scheme. Lily, were you around then, or you too Kwilly?

I could have got a job out of the Sydney Morning Herald straight as I stepped off the plane on any ammount of construction jobs, but clerical work at the time was graded in Oz, like a rank and file hierarchy system, so no go for me 'cause I wasn't in the Oz system, so check your facts lil, before shooting your mouth.

I couldn't wait around for grading, so took the only job up front that was in easy train ride, at Granville PO, I lived in Auburn, Sydney.

It was the best I could figure out at the time, and after passing permanency exams and getting into the PSA, I was senior postman in charge at Croydon Park PO within 8 months of arrival in Oz, so not for lack of enterprise or trying, so quit the Pom bashing ya bint!

Next, Oz gov. is not a holy cow, it's run by a bunch of gallahs, wide boys and bullies. Look at your current PM.

    PS

My wife was pregnant at the time, I did the best I could, with NO social welfare backup or family and friends to fall back on, private med insurance and sweat my only backup and a load of Pom bashing Ozy drongos to deal with.

You forget that Oz is and was made up of immigrants.

My best mates turned out to be Ities/Dagoes, Yugos, Grreeks and Lebanese, we were all lied to.

I love OZ and to compare it to England is like apples and oranges. ENT, with you being the WELL educated boy you were then, you should have known this. Hell, it's easy to get a job in OZ as long as you're willing to work. Everyone I ever met said that they were willing to help me as long as I was willing to help myself. It's a long story of why I didn't stay but that was 20 something years ago.

It is still the BEST country I have ever been to (NZ was great also).

    Eliminator,

It was easy to get a job, so I got one straight off, so what's the prob?

The immigration contract specified that I'd get a job of equal value to my trade/craft/skill on arrival in Oz, but that simply didn't happen.

    Lilly,

By the way, I wasn't waiting for a job offer as you imply that I did, I fround my own and was working within a week of landing in Oz.

As for the "apples and oranges" comparison JoGeAr, Oz Imm showed us all movies where all the streets and houses, cities and people looked like middle class/working class UK, emphasising the similarities between UK and Oz, it was bloody desparate mate,...a con!

The movies did show panoramic outback and bush scenes, only to be expected, but emphasis was placed upon the Englishness of tyhe place.

Wife and I were 19 then, Oz was the other side of the world, could have been as far away as the moon. We didn't know who to believe, Immigration or the Encyclopedia Britannica!

Only thing we could do was go and find out.

It looked like middle class UK with jobs mate!

UK in the early 60s experienced a major drain of skilled, unskilled and highly educated workers to Europe, America and the Antipodes, there was increasing unemployment aqnd migration to Oz peaked about then.

Reason I stayed in Oz was that in many ways it was a damn good country, I travelled all over NSW and QLd working in the PO and then the cane and tobacco, finally moving to NZ in the 70s and found another good land.

I left there too, went around the world working and enjoying myself, but finally always geting back to NZ.

There's good and bad about every land, the worst is invariably the government, an evil, but a necessary evil.

So that's my 10cents worth on that

    Cheers!
