^rather like wollop and his 60 suitcases of excess luggage that bypassed customs a few years go; the 'right kind' of people do not need to use silly diversion tricks like this to get stuff past the scanners and customs.

[For the subordinate to pay respect to the superior is fine. [/quote]

I completely disagree with this statement, although am not surprised to find it was written by a Thai.

We as humans should believe that we have no superiors in life. Sure, there are people who may hold a higher position than us, say in a company, but should someone really believe that they are really superior? Of course not. We simply have senior members of staff. Respect for bullying senior members of staff? i think not.

Relating to the OP, in this instance the employee had been issued with the authority to search any person entering a restricted area within an International airport. That authority simply cannot be taken away merely because some human considers himself to be a VIP and wishes to circumvernt the system, notably in one of the most sensitive areas of travel (airport security) anywhere in the world.

He relinguished that authority when he permitted someone to boss him around. Whether he or his instructors are in need of further training may be the subject of some considerable discussion but certainly an important issue needs to be addressed here. In light of similar incidents occurring there may be a case for an independant (non-nationals) agency to deal with global airport security.

In a previous life i have had cause myself to mention to certain people in similar situations that they must be confusing their grade/rank with my authority, which not surprisingly, always seemed to achieve the desired effect.

Additonally, anyone who made such a serious error of judgement in trying to box my ears in this situation, well i simply wouldn't be waiting around for security/airport police to arrive.

Thainess and airport security are clearly not a good mix.

but the internet and videos like this can force the arsewipes to be made to play by the security theatre rules as being classed by the international airports security commission as non conforming could be devastating

^One would hope this would be the case. but they got away unscathed when the 12go crash report demonstrated that the thai CAA was utterly compromised and incapable of doing its job at the most basic level. so why expect action over this?

^^The separateness of position and authority seems to be something that a lot of people seem to have problems grasping in business as well as military style organisations. Very common issue in IT security.

Thailand is good for some laughs, but anything serious is out of the question.

For those of us living here full time, it is kind like living in a slap stick 3 Stooges episode 24 hours a day. Thankfully sometimes, there is a mix of Groucho and Harpo Marx and the Little Rascals thrown in, which breaks the monotony of things.

I think that is what caused the overreaction in the first place. Considering Sombat’s position, he undoubtedly had a security clearance (and the badge showing it) that allowed him unrestricted access to all parts of the airport.

It still appears to me he was accompanying somebody that was getting on a plane and though that person did go through security check of both his luggage and metal detector, Sombat expected to be exempted from that due to his security clearance and when the young man tried to hand scan him, since Sombat had not emptied his pockets and had set the detector off, he reacted angrily and his true bullying personality came out.

"SomNut" needs his ear boxed real good. In a real country he would have been taken down hard by every employee at that airport. But now, the slave security screener that got slapped has to worry about his job and in all probability his safety and his family's safety. It would not surprise me if Somnut has not sent some Thai thuggers over "convince" him to drop the whole thing. One news post said "SomNut" was negotiating. That is how the "above the law" elites negotiate in Thailand - through intimidation, bullying etc. The ear slapping was mild really. I am sure some other Thai HiSo's might have done worse - maybe a plastic bag over the head, hands bound and tossed in a klong somewhere. The Thai elite can't have one of the slaves doing something to cause them to lose face. The elites think they are "little gods"among slaves here in the Land of Smirks and live each day without being held accountable for their actions.

What ever happened to those two rich Thai kids? The girl that rear ended the van on the tollway? Isn't she partying at some American uni right now? Or how about that spoiled brat that ran his Merc into a crowd of people exiting a bus after he had a road rage incident with the bus driver. Was he out drinking whiskey and soda at some club in RCA last night? Both killed and maimed a lot of people. Both of them probably do not think about the dead or their families one bit or feel they deserve any punishment. Both of them. no doubt in their minds, have justified it and explained it all away and it long forgotten. "Little gods" can do no wrong!

^Seems to me at times that Thais recognize this aspect of their society but just sort of accept injustice as unavoidable. For Thais to see this kind of incident as a call to arms would require them to take a hard, honest look at how this society operates, but in fact I think many Thais do these incidents as exactly what they are and just accept them as the cost of maintaining the current social order (a patronage society).

^^Its a generational thing. societies don't change because people change their minds and attitudes. societies change because people die and the next generation takes over with a different attitudes and mindsets. Adolescents, on the whole, are much better at seeing injustice and unfairness than their elders.

I read an account by a thai whose mother emigrated to australian in the 1970's he described how she had to pay bribes to every one of numerous officials along the route to getting her passport which took months. He then describes how is mother renewed her passport in 2010, she payed the fee, no bribes and got the passport on there same day. Thailand has come a long way since the army and police had an armed stand off over the ownership of truck of opium in lumpang.

Its got a long way to go, but its quite clear that each generation, in the cities atleased, is becoming less and less tolerant this kind of petty abuse of power. be it corruption, bullying and expecting shoe shining from subordinates. There's some hope that this C7 in someway is going to become a victim of this lack of tolerance, probably with a hardship posting somewhere unpleasant with few opportunities to 'enhance' his income.

Moo Ham (the brat) in the Merc/Benz who deliberately ran down peple at the bus stop because they pissed him off was sentenced to ten+ years in jail. He hasn't spent a night there yet - despite the sentence being handed down at least three years ago. And the Thai newspapers never follow it up either - the cowards that they are.

His father infamously remarked that the people at the bus stop had said things to his son and that they "are uneducated" - as if that's some excuse to ram them with a car. He then said he "would pay them (compensation) as long as it wasn't too much."

Marie Antoinette and her friends were uppity schoolgirls compared to many of these people in Thailand like Moo Ham, his father, and many, many others.

Normal is shitville. All the haves have something to sue against those who go against them. That's part of why no one ever points the finger at the corrupt. In the case of the inaction against MooHam, I bet MooHam went around on his knees and gave oral service to all the Thai officials and men at the newspapers in exchange for leniency. But then again that could have been done by Miss Thailand or the doctor as well. You've got to wonder what is happening in the darkness on the sidelines of all these events. MooHam definately proved he is a cocksucker by what he did.

You would no doubt lose that bet. No need to do any of that. They were probably just told to drop it or else and they did.

By the way, what ever happened to that scumbag that ran over the Thai lady doctor (Hathaiporn Imwitthaya) after she asked him to move his car so she could open her gate and leave to go to the hospital to care for her patients. I never heard anything more about it. Not that expected to. The Thais probably swept that one under the rug, or maybe the police investigating had more important business to care for - maybe stepping out with their mia noi or extorting money form drovers on the toll road.

Here is a good read for all -

Pra Kanong Court called an initial court date to open the case for Mr. Kunpitak Bujchimsawas (กัณฑ์พิทักษ์ ปัจฉิมสวัสดิ์), or more famously known as Moo Ham, who is being tried for man slaughter and attempted murder from an episode in which he drove his Mercedes Benz into pedestrians at a bus stop.

Representatives and relatives of the deceased victims and those injured joined the case alongside the Bankok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) against Mr. Kunpitak. The group submitted a request to the court for the defendant to pay reparations and damages to all involved and also serve under felony charges of assault and man slaughter.

Reports stated that the defendant fell into an epileptic fit
during the court proceedings that took place behind closed doors, causing the hearing to have to be stalled until he regained his composure. Mr. Kunpitak had cited his condition as the cause for the incident.

^^Whilst that thai's do take convictions for something really really serious like sending rude sms's about the queen or drugs very seriously and you get remand and jail whilst waiting for conviction or appealing. It seems that quite often with the less serious crimes such as statutory rape and murder they are generous to a fault with allowing people to remain on bail.... even if they reoffend.

The issue is with MooHam we don't really know weather or not he has successfully perverted the course of justice and got away with murder. Or is he simply spending money delaying the inevitable with appeals. In both cases we would expect him to be working the streets for 8-10 years before he has finished.

Personally I suspect that the supreme court will find him not guilty. I mean last year we saw film footage demonstrating the dedication, hard work and care which goes in their decisions, making sure that they are in the best interests of the country. doubtless enough pitza's will be delivered to ensure that everyone knows whats good for the country.

^Just gets better with every report. had a fit?... my arse

The thing that stands out the most in the last few threads is Thailand is a country where a man is named Moo Ham.

In another land, having an epileptic fit would disqualify him from ever driving a car again.

    But, in amazing Thailand....

Thai-ASEAN News Network - C7 Civil Servant Slapped With Disciplinary Violation

C7 Civil Servant Slapped With Disciplinary Violation

    UPDATE : 8 March 2012

The high-ranking civil servant, who made headlines several months ago when a VDO clip of him slapping an airport security official went viral, has been slapped with a disciplinary violation charge. He has been diagnosed with a psychiatric condition that impairs emotional control.

    Credit: DailyNews.co.th

The C7 official under the Customs Department, Sombat Chatchaiwaiyawit, was faced with widespread social disapproval when the VDO clip of him went viral on the internet. On the VDO, Sombat was seen slapping an airport security official with both hands when he was passing through an airport checkpoint and refused to be searched.

The airport security official, Sirichai Maichum, 32-year old employee of Asia Security Management, has filed charges against Sombat.

Sombat has been charged with a minor disciplinary violation. He's been diagnosed with a pysychiatric disorder that prevents him from controlling his emotions; including angry outbursts. He's been asked to take 2 months off work to seek appropriate treatment.

That is not a mental condition. It is called being a typical spoiled Thai boy trapped in a man's body.
