    Operation Fast & Furious

This scandal is taking off like a rocket now that the FBI and Janet Napolatano have been called before Congress. Heh...another nail in Obama's coffin.

Napolitano, FBI Give Non-Answers to Questions Surrounding Operation Fast and Furious

Despite ATF Special Agent William Newell admitting in sworn testimony that mutiple government agencies, including the FBI and DHS, were responsible for the development and implementation of Operation Fast and Furious, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitiano and FBI Director Robert Mueller denied knowing anything about the operation until Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed with guns from the program and avoided getting into details about their involvement by referring the case to the Inspector General in the Justice Department and citing an "on-going investigation" when asked by Arizona Senator John McCain recently on Capitol Hill. On top of Newell's testimony, President Obama called for a complete review of current gun control policies in April 2009:

Somehow, I don't think a failed ATF sting operation will gain as much currency as Watergate or Irangate.

Obama’s failed Fast and Furious program is linked to 200 murders in Mexico. And the program is linked to at least 11 crimes here in the United States including the murder of US border agent Brian Terry.

In a conference call this morning with Chairman of the House Oversight Committee Darrell Issa, reporters were told the Attorney General in Mexico has confirmed at least 200 murders south of the border happened as a result of Operation Fast and Furious. Eleven crimes in the United States have been linked to Operation Fast and Furious up to this point. Issa said he expects as the investigation in the operation continues, more crimes connected to Fast and Furious will come to light and be exposed. This is not surprising, considering out of 2500 weapons the Obama Justice Department allowed to “walk,” and that only 600 have been recovered, the rest are lost until they show up at violent crime scenes. The damage from Operation Fast and Furious has only started to be seen. Remember, the Mexican Government and ATF agents working in Mexico were left completely in the dark about the operation.

    It's gaining speed, folks!

Attorney General Eric Holder knew about the Fast and Furious gun program as far back as July 2010, which may contradict his statements to Congress, new documents suggest.
    [...]
The documents, leaked to CNN, CBS and other news organizations on Capitol Hill, indicate that Holder knew about the program well before he said he first became aware of it in testimony to Congress..
    [Documents may contradict Holder]

Fast and Furious” Scandal Has Justice Department in Full Panic.

This is good. Careers are already being ruined, and people will quite possibly go to jail over this.
On top of stonewalling Rep. Darrell Issa’s House investigation of the mess, Justice has floated a series of contradictory excuses:
    * There was no such program.
    * Even if there was, Holder never knew about it.
    * Even if he should have known about it, he might not have read Breuer’s memos.
    * Even if he read Breuer’s memos, he misunderstood the simple question: “When did you first know about the program, officially, I believe, called Fast and Furious?” . . .
There’s still plenty of time for Justice and the other implicated agencies to come clean. But to date, all we’ve heard is dog-ate-my-briefing-book excuses and desperate attempts to change the subject.

The most corrupt Administration since Tammney Hall...

How Did Obama Know About Fast and Furious Before Eric Holder? - Katie Pavlich

In the interview with Cummings, King shows a clip of stumbling President Obama trying to explain who knew about Fast and Furious and when. The problem? Obama gave the interview in March 2011 and Holder testified before Congress on May 2, 2011 that he had only known about Fast and Furious for a "few weeks."

Looks like Obama isn't the first president to run guns. He inherited it from his predecessor.

Documents Raise New Concerns About ATF Gunrunning Probes Prior to "Fast and Furious"

Newly disclosed documents reveal there was a second Arizona-based investigation during the Bush administration in which the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives allegedly let guns "walk" as a way to target weapons-trafficking suspects -- a practice now fueling controversy in the Obama administration.

"This is a major investigation with huge political implications and great potential if all goes well," an ATF official in Washington, William Hoover, wrote in late 2007. "We must also be very prepared if it doesn’t go well!'

Not making any excuses for Holder if he did lie however it is coming to light that much of the information about allowing guns to 'walk' used to discredit him is actually linked to Operation Wide Receiver not Fast and Furious.

Operation Wide Receiver is the ATF operation under Bush that allowed guns to be sold and flow into Mexico.

The Justice Department under Bush knew about it too.

Earlier ATF gun operation ‘Wide Receiver’ used same tactics as ‘Fast and Furious’ - The Washington Post

Two wrongs don't make a right and all that.

Ollie North sold arms to the Sandinistas in order to get the I-Rainian hostages freed but in this case with Holder, American lives were lost.

Operation Fast and Furious is approaching a boil now. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), the Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, spoke with Sean Hannity last night in his first interview since the hearing today with Attorney General Eric Holder on the Fast and Furious scandal. Issa told Hannity that the Justice Department, very clearly, made a crisis to limit the people’s Second Amendment rights.

The difference is the Bush administration informed the Mexican government of events. The Mexican government was not made aware of events by the shenanigans under the Obama administration.

One of Holder’s key deputies, Lanny Breuer, must be particularly nervous over the newly released documents. Breuer, who heads the Criminal Division at DOJ, told the Senate Judiciary Committee on Nov. 1 that “I cannot say for sure whether I saw a draft of the letter that was sent to you.” The “letter” referred to was the February 4, 2011 letter that DOJ now admits was “inaccurate.” In written testimony sent to Senator Grassley, Breuer also said he had “no recollection” of seeing the letter before it was sent.

However, as the Friday dump of documents indicates, Breuer forwarded versions of the letter from his official email to his personal gmail account on three occasions: once before it was sent and twice after.

Further, Breuer’s aid Jason Weinstein was deeply involved in the drafting and redrafting of the Feb. 4 letter. On Feb. 2 expressing frustration and how difficult it was to satisfy all concerned, Weinstein sent an email to both Breuer and Burke, “The Magna Carta was easier to get done than this was.” In another email addressed to both Breuer and Weinstein as the final draft was near completion Burke wrote, “Great job by you.” Breuer replied, “Thanks, Jason, as usual great work.”
Fast & Furious Cover-up Grows Bigger - Bob Beauprez - Townhall Finance

A letter sent to the investigative committee is filled with falsehoods. Lanny Breuer, the head of the criminal division of the Department of Justice, says he can't recall ever seeing it, it turns out he forwarded the letter to his personal gmail account three times. Why would he do that? Obviously to save it. For what? So he could forward it to someone's personal account thereby bypassing government scrutiny and government records?

Heh...the Obumer was taken to school again. …the Arizona’s legislature has decided once more to do the job the feds won’t do, and has launched its own investigation into Fast and Furious. And during an appearance on FOX NEWS this morning, Arizona House Speaker Andy Tobin explained why they’ve taken this step. He said that constituents were flooding their offices with questions about the gun-running operation, and he said one recurring question was, “You’re not waiting for the feds [to do something] are you?” He then said the answer to that question was “No.”…

everyone (except the foxbots) knows this is a manufactured "scandal" the republicans cooked up for the election cycle.

unfortunately for the republicans, this won't change anyone's vote in november.

once again, stephen colbert sums it all up quite nicely:

Unraveling the "Fast & Furious" Scandal - The Colbert Report - 2012-20-06 - Video Clip | Comedy Central

the salient point (and one you'll never hear on fox) is that "operation fast and furious" started in 2006 during the bush administration.

but hey, 40 odd years ago obama had his fake birth notice published in that hawaii newspaper knowing that he would run for president one day...surely he and his yet to be selected or confirmed attorney general could have started this ATF program while he was a state senator from illinois. right?
