The latter is part of the human condition, on the whole we are not interested in the truth, we just want someone else to tell use what we want to hear. Much of the scientific method is about minimising this bias, whilst the propagandist and dealnlist embrace it.
The real scientist, will gather data and evidence and create an all embracing logical argument that explains all the data. and as more data comes along they will modify their viewpoint to fit the data.
The propagandist and dentist does not need to do analysis of the data, they do not need to create this logical argument that explains the data. they already know what the truth should be and all they ever do is cherry pick and critique with laser focus. the ice sheet gets bigger.... proof that earth's not warming.... thats as far as a denialist will go.... they are not interested in finding out why its growing.... after all they already know the answer they want.
so it's not that had to tell the difference between a truth teller and a lier.... unless you want the lie to be true...
Arguming with a climate denier is about a fruitful as arguing with the previous generations of truthers, who believes asbestos, tobacco were harmless and ozone hole was a hoaks. That these movements start and die on vested industry funding that drys up after the fights been lost does not matter to them.
for them the conspiracy is a global conspiracy of academics on the lamb, it cannot be yet another atroturf campaign by vested interests to keep their investments and business modles..... after all given the value of the oil companies is based on the value of the reserves of oil in the ground..... what will they be worth if we kick our addiction to oil and leave it in the ground?

Good to see you’ve come around.
Now back to the real world,……….
The whole business of getting cold sometimes and then hot at other times can be very confusing, but also very motivating for Liberal environmentalists..... it's the kind of thing that needs serious investigation, with lots of studies, papers published, grants secured and ongoing job security. So many would be unemployed if it was not for changes in the weather....
By their very nature they have to find reasons to blame everything on capitalists, corporations and anybody else that believes that we just can't manage our world with windmills and solar panels. They can not and will not accept any suggestion that maybe it really is just the old world doing what it's always been doing. That would be much too simple and unlikely to generate more work and tenure.
When data is made available that might just throw their computer models into disarray, it's dismissed as a short term anomaly to be disregarded. On the other hand, if some kind of fresh data is seen to support their ever evolving theories, it is immediately hailed as conclusive proof, at least until somebody turns around and proves that it is not.....![]()
When it's pointed out that certain parts of the world are experiencing extremely cold winters (several years in a row) and pack ice is forming at rates not seen in more than half a century .....well that's of course part of the "warming" trend silly
It's great being a Libbie environmentalist.....when you're right you're right and when you're wrong you are still right, and you still get paid.....![]()
The doomsday projections need to be moved forward from time to time, much in the same way the date of oil supply exhaustion needs to be moved forward each time the world becomes awash with the stuff. It's all very Libby and quite entertaining......what would we do without them?...![]()
EIGHTEEN YEARS, THREE MONTHS WITH NO GLOBAL WARMING
To the embarrassment of global warming alarmists everywhere, the Earth stubbornly refuses to get warmer. In 2009, Kevin Trenberth, one of the leading alarmist scientists, wrote in an email: “The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t.” Since then, things have only gotten worse for the warmists. The Earth has now gone for 18 years and three months with no warming. Christopher Monckton charts the satellite data:
Monckton adds this explanation:
The least-squares linear-regression trend on the RSS satellite monthly global mean surface temperature anomaly dataset shows no global warming for 18 years 3 months since October 1996.
The satellite data are by far the most reliable we have, since 1979 when they begin. Surface temperature data are badly compromised in several respects: 70% of the Earth is ocean; most weather stations are in cities that are artificially warmed, a fact that the keepers of the data steadfastly refuse to acknowledge; and–see the prior point–surface data are in the hands of the alarmist cabal, who consistently “adjust” the data to make the past look cooler and the present warmer, often without acknowledging that they have done so until they are caught.
The fact that the Earth hasn’t warmed for more than 18 years proves that the models, which are the sole support for global warming hysteria, are wrong. We are now well outside of any possible temperatures that the models forecast. Recognizing this fact, the IPCC significantly reduced its estimates of future warming in its most recent report, but the problem persists. Reality doesn’t conform to the new, more modest calculations, either:
Models that are invalidated by observation are worthless. There is no point trying to excuse their failure or make modest tweaks to keep the erroneous theories on which they are based alive. As a matter of science, anthropogenic global warming alarmism is finished. It survives, like a dead frog whose legs are still kicking, by virtue of countless billions of dollars in government funding. The warmists will keep up the charade as long as the money holds out.

Five things to remember about climate science in 2015
By Anthony Sadar, Washington Examiner
Posted with author’s permission.
As the New Year dawns, old challenges hang on.
One of the biggest challenges relates to the ambience of climate-change science.
So many folks are invested in an expectation of disastrous geophysical conditions resulting from modern lifestyles that are fueled by ancient energy sources. So, the big money (in the trillions of dollars) is on the continuation of supposed wacky weather, hustled as proof of long-term, global climate change.
But here are five reasons to remain unconvinced that humans are culpable for such acts of nature.
1. Actual data trumps forecasts. No matter how you measure it, the global average temperature trend has flattened out over the past decade and a half. Even so, the tiny fraction of a degree increase in temperature expected for 2014 over previous years will be hailed as being the highest on record. Despite this almost meaningless increase, there is a distinct possibility that temperatures will be once more dropping as solar activity and ocean circulations relentlessly work to redistribute heat across the globe.
2. Carbon dioxide makes up only 0.04% of the atmosphere. Compare this small percentage with water, which is the dominant climate regulator. Water, in the vapor phase at 0% through 4% of atmospheric concentration and in the liquid and solid phases, is apparently the biggest climate controller on the planet.
3. The purveyors of a long-term human-caused global climate change catastrophe constantly confuse weather with climate and cherry pick data to aggravate public angst over future meteorological mayhem. This permits, for example, huckster politicians to push what is often referred to as “the social cost of carbon.” This phrase should not be confused with any balanced assessment, such as a traditional Cost-Benefit Analysis, which would likely put some much-needed perspective back into any reasonable deliberation of climate concerns.
4. No matter how brilliant climate prognosticators are, nor how sophisticated their algorithms and super their computers, they are far from knowing with sufficient certainty the far future. This is one reason they deserve a skeptical eye, for the allegedly absolute certainty of the “settled science” as the linchpin of the case made to the public.
5. Finally, real human misery requires immediate attention, and access to low-cost fossil fuels goes a long way to alleviating suffering. At least a billion people don’t have access to modern energy, living instead off truly dirty fuel sources such as smoky wood and dried dung. A mere one percent increase in so-called carbon pollution would be enough to lift up a billion of the world’s poor. As cheap, clean, abundant energy powers people out of poverty, high-cost policies empower and enrich politicians and their enablers, who hope to profit from carbon hysteria. Thus, the incentive for meaningful changes is weak, unfortunately given the powerlessness of those who would benefit.
So this New Year, for the sake of the Earth and its inhabitants, when it comes to climate futures, we need to resolve to invest in less profit-driven science, and be more guarded and less gullible with the diviners of disaster. More than a billion people will thank us.

Blue, you and Boon might be better posting snow pictures and weather reports for the dip* who follow you.
‘Cause you both seem a little confused (to put it mildly).
what’s it gonna be? flat line? no warming trend? levelling off? slight increase?
about the author of the piece you posted Anthony J. Sadar
According to a search of Google Scholar, Anthony J Sadar has never published in a peer-reviewed journal on the subject of climate change. He has published some articles on air pollution dispersion, and the aurora borealis.
Anthony J Sadar has written numerous commentaries at The Washington Examiner and The Washington Times, largely on what he believes is the flaws with mainstream climate science (conspiracy theorist?). He has also written numerous book reviews on books about climate change skepticism.

And Boon how come these graphs that you and Blue post don’t have a direct link that will open to the graphs you post here from the Remss website?
Could this be a reason? From the Remss site

We are lucky, we are living in an interglacial period , ice ages last a very long time the last only ending recently.
'' The current Holocene interglacial has persisted since the end of the Pleistocene, about 11,700 years ago.''
As we move away from an ice age the Earth inevitably warms up .
There will be some variations, even decades of cooling and sometime even more rapid warming - due to the sun.
Yes the pretty graphs will ultimately show - a very slow upwards trend in the temp over the long run .
Mans co2 probably has very little to do with it .
The Earths temp over the last 18 years is as good as flat, which is at odds with the much higher co2 levels and predicted warning .
Other clues that the MMGW is fake is that it come from the exact same people pushing for mass immigration/ globalisation and homo rights ,
The fact they have had great sucess in totally brainwashing much of population with thier agenda, does not make them right.
Remember I say this with a heavy heart- living in the far north I would welome a warmer world.
I would love a big ice melt too , all that clean water would do the world good , a changing coast is dynamic and interesting too.
A much bigger problem is real pollution and a human population explosion; better put resurces into tackling that than pissing about with co2.

finally a graph about STRATOSPHERIC TEMPERATUREThe thick black line is the observed time series from RSS V3.3 MSU/AMSU Temperatures. The yellow band is the 5% to 95% range of output from CMIP-5 climate simulations.
Climate Analysis | Remote Sensing Systems
The temperature of the lower stratosphere has been monitored since late 1978 by the MSU and AMSU instruments. The RSS merged lower stratospheric temperature data product is called TLS, or temperature lower stratosphere. Unlike the troposphere, which warmed slowly over this period, the lower stratosphere has been cooling due to both decreases in stratospheric ozone caused by CFC’s, and increases in well-mixed greenhouse gases causes by human activity. This slow cooling trend is punctuated occasionally by temporary increases in stratospheric aerosols caused by major volcanic eruptions. In the plot below, we show the global mean temperature anomaly from the RSS TLS data, and the 5% to 95% envelope from the CMIP-5 historical simulations.
The basic features of the changes in stratospheric temperature are captured by the models, though some models appear to show too much response to volcanic eruptions and also appear to show too little overall cooling.

you think they are sat on the beach worrying that I might not be able to open my front door, cos my hands are too cold to work the key ?
If they get flooded big deal , they will have to move - just like I had to move back to Yorkshire when 2nd and 3rd world immigrants + homos flooded into London .
If All the ice on earth melts it will be a good thing , I hate the stuff.
We should put giant mirrors in space focusing the sun on the ice caps .
Same with the temperature the Earth plus 5 degrees would be excellent.
My only concern is more immigrant scum heading North ...
