Global Temperature Update
No global warming for 17 years 11 months …
… or 19 years, according to a key statistical paper
By Christopher Monckton of Brenchley
The Great Pause has now persisted for 17 years 11 months. Indeed, to three decimal places on a per-decade basis, there has been no global warming for 18 full years. Professor Ross McKitrick, however, has upped the ante with a new statistical paper to say there has been no global warming for 19 years.
Whichever value one adopts, it is becoming harder and harder to maintain that we face a “climate crisis” caused by our past and present sins of emission.
Taking the least-squares linear-regression trend on Remote Sensing Systems’ satellite-based monthly global mean lower-troposphere temperature dataset, there has been no global warming – none at all – for at least 215 months.
This is the longest continuous period without any warming in the global instrumental temperature record since the satellites first watched in 1979. It has endured for half the satellite temperature record. Yet the Great Pause coincides with a continuing, rapid increase in atmospheric CO2 concentration.![]()

And haven't those mugs already announced 2014 as the warmest year ever...
It's not even winter , even if you use the politically correct, dumbed down start date of December 1 , but ..
Record cold was reported Wednesday morning in New York City (22 degrees at LaGuardia), Washington (13 at Dulles), Raleigh, N.C. (19), and as far south as Jacksonville (27).

A good read for some real global warming facts. Dark Winter by John Casey.
you do know that the author Casey is a scam artist don’t you?
From another site,…….Casey also has no background in climate science, possessing only an undergraduate degree in physics and math and a master's in management. Since we pointed that out in 2010, Casey has pumped up his biography, adding that he is "one of America's most successful climate change researchers and climate prediction experts," even though he does not appear to have ever published a single peer-reviewed paper on the subject.
His new book debunks global warming orthodoxy. For more than a decade, he reports, the planet’s oceans have been cooling. And since 2007, the atmospheric temperature has been cooling as well.
And here’s what’s happening with ocean temperatures. warmest on record
Nice weather reports. Why don’t you give us an update for our posters to the south? Australia,..
might be a good place to start. leveling off
Over the past 15 years, the frequency of very warm months in Australia has increased five-fold compared with the period 1951-1980, the bureau said in its State of the Climate 2014 report released earlier this year. The frequency of very cool months, meanwhile, has dropped by one-third.
_____________
Despite a bitter U.S. cold snap, the globe is rushing hell-bent toward its warmest year on record with last month setting the fifth monthly heat record of year.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced Thursday that last month was the hottest October on record worldwide. The 58.43 degrees Fahrenheit (14.74 Celsius) beat out October 2003.
"It is becoming pretty clear that 2014 will end up as the warmest year on record," said Deke Arndt, climate monitoring chief for NOAA's National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, North Carolina. "The remaining question is: How much?"

The science that the sun drives the climate is sound.
The earth is bombarded by Cosmic Rays - used as the nuclei for cloud formation and more clouds equal cooler Earth.
So an energetic sun with many sun spots means a stronger energy field streaming to Earth ,which 'bats' away the cosmic rays and equals less clouds and thus hotter Earth.
Weak sun like now equals more clouds forming and coolness.

Miss Global Warming Yet? If Not, Just Wait And You Might
But if you thought global warming was scary, here’s an alternative to consider. Some really smart scientists predict that Planet Earth is now entering a very deep and prolonged cooling period attributable to 100-year record low numbers of sunspots. Periods of reduced sunspot activity correlate with increased cloud-forming influences of cosmic rays. More clouds tend to make conditions cooler, while fewer often cause warming.
Dr. Habibullo Abdussamatov who heads Russia’s prestigious Pulkovo Observatory in St. Petersburg predicts that: “after the maximum of solar Cycle-24, from approximately 2014, we can expect the start of the next bicentennial cycle of deep cooling with a Little Ice Age in 2055 plus or minus 11 years” (the 19th to occur in the past 7,500 years).
Dr. Abdussamatov points out that Earth has experienced such occurrences five times over the last 1,000 years, and that: “A global freeze will come about regardless of whether or not industrialized countries put a cap on their greenhouse gas emissions. The common view of Man’s industrial activity is a deciding factor in global warming has emerged from a misinterpretation of cause and effect.”
While solar output typically goes through 11-year cycles with high numbers of sunspots seen at their peak, we are currently approaching the peak of “Cycle-24” with numbers running at less than half of those observed during other 20th century peaks. But hasn't that place been hotting up since the Aborigines arrived ?Originally Posted by S Landreth

That's funny.
Way before this global warming thing became an issue I learnt from a visiting American lecturer that volcanoes were emitting much larger amounts of CO2 than humans did.
Then during the MMGW years that estimate was revised drastically. Now someone's saying it was right all along.
There's a lot of science for money out there. Question is who has the biggest checkbook: Oil or vote-seeking government?

2014 Headed Toward Hottest Year On Record -- Here's Why That's Remarkable
2014 is currently on track to be hottest year on record, according to new reports from both the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the U.K.’s Met Office Wednesday. Similarly, NOAA reported two weeks ago that 2014 is all but certain to be the hottest year on record.
It is not remarkable that we keep setting new records for global temperatures — 2005 and then 2010 and likely 2014. Humans are, after all, emitting record amounts of heat-trapping carbon pollution into the air, and carbon dioxide levels in the air are at levels not seen for millions of years, when the planet was far warmer and sea levels tens of feet higher. The figure above from the Met Office makes clear that humans continue to warm the planet.
“The provisional information for 2014 means that fourteen of the fifteen warmest years on record have all occurred in the 21st century,” said WMO Secretary-General Michel Jarraud. “There is no standstill in global warming.”
As Peter Stott, Head of Climate Attribution at the Met Office, explained: “Our research shows current global average temperatures are highly unlikely in a world without human influence on the climate.” While it has been on the cool side in parts of the United States, the Met Office reported that the United Kingdom is headed toward its hottest year on record. Stott noted that, “human influence has also made breaking the current UK temperature record about ten times more likely.”
What is remarkable, as the WMO explains, is that we’re headed toward record high global temps “in the absence of a full El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO).” We get an El Niño “when warmer than average sea-surface temperatures in the eastern tropical Pacific combine, in a self-reinforcing loop, with atmospheric pressure systems,” which affects weather patterns around the world.
It’s usually the combination of the long-term manmade warming trend and the regional El Niño warming pattern that leads to new global temperature records. But not this year.
Here’s a revealing chart from Skeptical Science courtesy of environmental scientist Dana Nuccitelli of NASA’s temperature data (with the projection for 2014 in black and white):
This year we are poised to set the global temperature record in an ENSO-neutral year. And while eastern tropical Pacific sea surface temperatures have been warmer than normal in recent months, those temperatures were colder than normal in the beginning months of the year, so the net effect of ENSO on 2014 global temperatures has been minimal.
As one caveat, different climate-tracking groups around the world use different data sets, so it is possible that at the end of the year, some will merely show 2014 tied for the hottest year on record depending on how warm December turns out to be. For NOAA, however, it’s all but certain 2014 will be the hottest year on record. Either way, it’s remarkable this is happening in an ENSO-neutral year.
Finally, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology reported Friday that their models indicate “at least a 70% chance that El Niño will be declared in the coming months.” If so, then 2015 will very likely top 2014 to become the hottest year on record.
The only way to stop setting new annual temperature records on an increasingly regular basis — until large parts of the planet are uninhabitable — is to sharply change the world’s carbon dioxide emissions path starting ASAP.

Here’s one of mine that might be a little more entertaining,…..
I remember one good lookin’ teacher of mine; when I was in the 6th grade, and I would believe anything she told me. Especially when she would tell me/others while reaching up real high to write something at the top of the chalkboard wearing those paisley or polka dot mini-skirts.
But for some reason I think your memories (about One professor/lecturer/teacher) are a little far-fetched. Could this be a reason?
If you're genuinly interested in understanding the topic you might try first taking a look at the consensus of scientific opinion on the topic instead of one visiting scientist whose opinions are later revised. Conspiracy whackos should consider: it is much easier to make a conspiracy of the few (climate deniers who work for the oil industry as some of them do) and 97% of the global scientific community.Originally Posted by Plan B

Global temperature update: the Pause is now 18 years 2 months
Guest essay by Christopher Monckton of Brenchley
Since October 1996 there has been no global warming at all (Fig. 1). This month’s RSS temperature plot pushes up the period without any global warming from 18 years 1 month to 18 years 2 months (indeed, very nearly 18 years 3 months). Will this devastating chart be displayed anywhere at the Lima conference? Don’t bet on it.
Figure 1. The least-squares linear-regression trend on the RSS satellite monthly global mean surface temperature anomaly dataset shows no global warming for 18 years 2 months since October 1996.
The hiatus period of 18 years 2 months, or 218 months, is the farthest back one can go in the RSS satellite temperature record and still show a sub-zero trend.
What will the chart look like this time next year, at the beginning of the Paris world-government conference, at which the Treaty of Copenhagen will be dusted off and nodded through by the scientifically illiterate national negotiating delegates of almost 200 nations, ending the freedom and democracy of the West and putting absolute economic and political power in the hands of the grim secretariat of the UN climate convention?

Climate Change is “the most important challenge facing the world” ?
err no seems most people haven't bought into the alarmist scaremongering and don't give a monkies about it ...
Climate Change ? Who Cares? | Watts Up With That?...a poll gone either horribly wrong or totally predictably depending on your point of view. It’s a global poll done by the United Nations, with over six million responses from all over the planet, and guess what?
The revealed truth is that of the sixteen choices given to people regarding what they think are the important issues in their lives, climate change is dead last. Not only that, but in every sub-category, by age, by sex, by education, by country grouping, it’s right down at the bottom of the list. NOBODY thinks it’s important.
Now, people are always saying how the US is some kind of outlier in this regard, because polls in the US always put climate change down at the bottom, whereas polls in Europe generally rate it somewhat higher. But this is a global poll, with people chiming in from all over the planet. The top fifteen countries, in order of the number of people voting, were Mexico, Nigeria, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Yemen, Philippines, Thailand, Cameroon, United States, Ghana, Rwanda, Brazil, Jordan, and Morocco … so this appears to be truly representative of the world, which is mostly non-industrialized nations.
So the next time someone tries to claim that climate change is “the most important challenge facing the world” … point them to the website of the study, and gently inform them that the rest of the world doesn’t buy that kind of alarmist hogwash for one minute. People are not as stupid as their leaders think, folks know what’s important and what’s trivial in their lives, and trying to control the climate is definitely in the latter group.
The poll will be open until 2015, so you can register your own priorities …

First El Niño in five years declared by Japan's weather bureau
Predictions that were made in the spring projected a possibly huge El Nino, on the scale of the historic 1998 event, which would put global temperatures into overdrive. What we’re getting seems, so far, to be somewhat more of a moderate cycle, but with the potential to make 2015 a record breaking year for global temperatures, whether 2014 sets a new record or not.
Below a good recap of what an El Nino is and why it’s important.
2014 is looking more and more like it just might be hottest year on record. Seems that levelling off thing is peaking.
The first 11 months of 2014 (January–November) was the warmest such period on record across the world's land and ocean surfaces, with an average temperature that was 0.68°C (1.22°F) above the 20th century average. If December is at least 0.42°C (0.76°F) higher than its 20th century average, 2014 will surpass 2005 and 2010 as the warmest year on record.
More from Sceptical Science
For those of us fixated on whether 2014 will be the hottest year on record, the results are in. At least, we know enough that we can make the call. According the global data from NOAA, 2014 will be the hottest year ever recorded.
Snip
Here, among the experts, there is little fixation on the record. On the other hand, there was little fixation on the so-called “halt” to global warming that the climate-science deniers have been trumpeting for the past few years. The latest data paint a clear picture. The Earth is warming. The oceans are warming, the land is warming, the atmosphere is warming, the ice is melting, and sea level is rising.
These climate science deniers have had a bad year.
I hope the weather boy will come along and let me know how the weather has been in his neck of the woods (outside his basement). Maybe more snow pictures with Christmas lights? That would be nice this time of year.
Maybe another chart showing us how it hasn’t warmed in the past 1850 years 6.09090 months from professor Anthony Watts website?
Mr Landreth.
What is your thoughts then on obomba getting his mates in Saudi to massively increase oil production to crash the oil price purely to continue the US hegemonic plans against Russia? Surely you would abhor this as these carbon heavy fuels are one of the principal accelerators of "glodal warming"?
