And I say, until you can say that you are driving something that is solar or hydrogen or otherwise NON oil using, then keep your trap shut. How much emitions does your socalled economical old car put out? Just because it gets better gas milage, does it it put out less carbon monoxide than a newer vehicle?

A civic is ok if you only have one kid and can actually fit into a car made for "little people".
perhaps part of the reason the US is getting its ass kicked in iraq is because they are now signing up fat, 42 year old criminals of questionable intelligence to fill the uniforms.
putting aside the obvious egalitarian nature of a draft for minute, wouldn't it stand to reason that the army would be better off with fit, younger and better educated recruits?
and btw, the reason i support the draft is simple..... the instant rich white kids start getting letters from the draft board, bush's war is over.

really? where's this pool at? you might want to let the pentagon know...because in addition to enlisting fat, 42 year old criminals of questionable intelligence, the military is now reduced to offering $45,000 to con people into signing up.Originally Posted by Boon Mee

The Army is basically broken. West Point Graduates are leaving the Army in the highest numbers in 30 years.
Enlistment bonuses raised, Cat IVs allowed (people considered to dumb to get in), weight and age, and criminal offenses allowed in, now.
Companies compete to attract applicants.
And when these measures are done as they are, it means they aren't getting enough new people in.

james a baker (sec. of state during the GHWB admin, and also a member of the reagan administration) had this to say on reinstating the draft:
James Baker Backs Reinstating the Draft - Washington Whispers (usnews.com)"This is a very unpopular thing that I am about to say," he warned. "But one thing that makes it harder to go to war is to have a draft, because when you have a draft, then everybody's got a stake in it, and the costs of war are brought home much more vividly and vigorously to the American people. I think national service is a wonderful idea." But unlikely, he conceded: "You get killed if you support a draft, politically, but it sure would raise the stakes. Everybody would understand a lot better what we have at stake when we go to war."
bring back the draft!
