    The hawks got it wrong

AFP: Major survey challenges Western perceptions of Islam

WASHINGTON (AFP) — A huge survey of the world's Muslims released Tuesday challenges Western notions that equate Islam with radicalism and violence.
The survey, conducted by the Gallup polling agency over six years and three continents, seeks to dispel the belief held by some in the West that Islam itself is the driving force of radicalism.
It shows that the overwhelming majority of Muslims condemned the attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001 and other subsequent terrorist attacks, the authors of the study said in Washington.
So with less support for terrorism in the Muslim world than the hawks would have us believe, we finally dispel the myth that Muslims are all terrorists.

In fact more than 90% of Muslims condemn violence while only 60% of Americans do the same.

Poll: 60 percent of Americans oppose Iraq war - CNN

Sixty percent of Americans oppose the U.S. war in Iraq, the highest number since polling on the subject began with the commencement of the war in March 2003, according to poll results and trends released Wednesday.
Looks like I was right and the vast majority of us hate the terrorists.
Be happy dudes. It's a lot more fun than crying.

Not sure if the two stats are really connected.

If you asked americans how many opposed terrorists acts (not merely violence or a war that their country is personally involved in) then the figure is likely to be higher than 90%.

The real concern in the muslim world is that the 10% (if the figures are to be believed) who support terrorism are the people who control others by fear.

Haven't read the contents of the AFP survey but the figures quoted in the OP are questionable merely because they seem unrelated.

What? Americans love terror. What do you think the super-wank of 24-hour news coverage of war is for? Just because it's a state doing it doesn't stop it being terrorism. According to the Department of Defense terrorism is the "calculated use of unlawful violence or threat of unlawful violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological." The Americans have quite a track-record for that and, in addition, they actively aid other nations - most often Israel - in doing the same. There's no secret or mystery about this.

They were dancing in the streets of Baghdad. I remember very well.

While 9/11 rubble was smoldering much of the Islamic world was in wild hysterical celebration.
Now they sport the Bin Laden on t-shirts.
Absolutely lovely folks, and they make nice quiet neighbors too....that is if you don't mind the occasional Iranian made unguided katusha rocket landing in your neighborhood.

'Unlawful' violence. According to whom? Under that definition, your enemy in a conflict is by definition a terrorist.

No surprises in that study to me, anyhow.

The vast majority didn't though. How many westerners cheered the 'shock and awe' bombing of Iraq?

According to international law, which provides for the legitimate use of violence in certain cases. The point of quoting this - and I'm only copying Chomsky here - is that under their own definitions, the Americans are guilty of terrorism. And they cheer so loudly, the whole world hears. That doesn't legitimize terrorist responses, but it puts them in a slightly different light.

This is one thing our (Zionist controlled???) media continue to downplay as the statutory "small minority", hoping that Westerners don't twig that people in Islamic nations don't kick off demos like this without the complicity of their leaders.

In any case, I have always advocated that every discussion or video of 911 should end with a reminder of Muslims celebrating the event. This is one of the many things neither we nor future generations should ever forget.

^It's much easier to smear .

It's also quite comical how Islam becomes a race when it's convenient to smear the critics of Islam.
If we were critiquing the Catholic church I dare say they would not be calling us bigots.

But these "brave defenders of Islam" have no qualms using volatile racial rhetoric when when questions are raised about the inherent violence and oppression which is widely tolerated in the Islamic community. When it comes to Islam these misformed muffin heads throw reason, logic and common sense right out the window.
