10,000 Protest Mosque at Ground Zero

    Thursday, June 10, 2010

    No Mosque! No Mosque!

Protesting "Ground Zero" mosque in New York Sunday June 6, 2010
As many as 10,000 protesters from across the country – including family members who lost loved ones on Sept. 11, 2001 – took to the streets in New York City Sunday to fight construction of a 13-story Islamic mosque to be built just steps from Ground Zero where Muslim terrorists murdered 2,751 people in the name of Allah.-- Chelsea Schilling
Why would organizers of an Islamic mosque plan to open their doors on Sept. 11, 2011, ten years to the day after the most devastating Islamic terrorist attack against America? Moreover, why would the planners of this mosque choose the very site or as close to the site as possible where approximately 3,000 Americans died? Coincidental, I don’t think so! And neither does many other Americans. (see article)

Muslims say building a mosque on the site of the worst act of Islamic terrorism committed on U.S. soil is meant to improve Muslim American relations. Hum… Let me think about that for a moment. Nope that’s still the stupidest thing that I’ve ever heard.

Last Sunday 10,000 protesters from across the country took to the streets of New York to demonstrate what they feel is an appallingly insensitive act of disrespect for America and the Americans who died on September 11, 2001. Their message was if Muslims would like to improve relations with the people of the United States cease and desist plans to build a Mosque over the site that Islamists murdered approximately 3,000 Americans in a heinous act of jihad.

    "
It was almost obvious that something like this had to arise from the ashes of 9/11. In some way, this has the hand of the divine written over it. It's almost as if God wanted to be involved."—Daisy Khan, the Cordoba Initiative executive director

It is apparent that what Daisy Khan meant was it was only obvious to Muslims that a Mosque erected on or near the most infamous site of Islamic aggression against the United States of America would be inevitable. To most Americans who are just now realizing what it means when a mosque is placed over a site destroyed by Islamic aggression they are feeling betrayed and a little sick to the stomach.

It is Islam that […] destroys sacred sites and rebuilds them as mosques. It was (and remains) Islam's way of saying, "We have defeated you, we rule you, and our god is better than your god." --Doron Kescher (see previous post)

Building a mosque on the site of ground zero is an incredibly insensitive act on the part of Muslims. This is an act from which American and Islamic relations will not be able to recover.

This mosque is a further provocation against the U.S. This mosque is a passive aggressive act stealthily furthering jihad against the infidels of the United States of America.

It is what this mosque represents is why thousands of Americans took to the streets last Sunday. Americans have had enough. No more, enough is enough. No more with the advancing of the religion of jihad. No mosque! No mosque!

Actually, the protesters are exercising their rights under the 1st amendment- please tell me how it was violated?

You are free to practice your religion- I'm free to say that I don't want your house of worship in a certain spot- what the government can't do is stop either one of us.

The hijackers were Saudi muslims, it would be quite fitting to build a mosque in their memory, I think not.

There are better places to situate a mosque. Now is not the time to do it. It would be the equivalent of building mosques at the site of the Madrid and London blasts. Learn from history. These things don't work out. The Muslims built their dome of the rock mosque on the ruins of the Hebrew's temple and look at the trouble it has been ever since.

To the idiots that want to use this as an excuse to bash the USA, pleae note that just as the muslims have a right to ask to build a mosque, concerned citizens have a right to object. It is up to the municipal authorities to award the building permit and to modify the zoning laws to permit the construction of a single purpose religious structure. That requirement would apply to a jewish, hindu or buddhist temple and to a christian church. A full review of the issues has to be undertaken and the public is allowed to participate.

Mr. Fred, if I wanted to build a church in most muslim countries, it would not be allowed let alone open to discussion, so quit with your hypocrisy.

This is a very sensitive issue- I'm from NY- I watched the Twin Towers being built when I was a kid- I had been acquainted with two people who died in the attack (both were family men who left behind young widows and children).

I try to hold myself above petty prejudices, and not to judge people in racial, nationalistic, or religious terms- in this case, though, it seemed was a Muslim-based attack (I concede it was radical in form, and that it's not indicative of the actions of the vast majority of Muslims, though I was disappointed when some followers who should have been vociferously against what happened weren't...)

I don't want to see a mosque anywhere near the site, I'll admit to that- you can argue as to truth and actual relevancy all you want, but as far as perception goes, this is a slap in the face to a lot of Americans.

I'll leave others to argue that one out.

But the proposed Community centre is not on the site of GZ, or visible from it. 10,000 protesters (probably overstated given the nature of the virulent Blog link) need to geddalife.

It would be a 15-story building within 2 blocks of Ground Zero- close enough to stir up sentiment.

Anyway, hope they have a decent kebab shop in the new community centre.
That might make it worth the walk from GZ.

well you have to admit that the US had it coming, they have been doing dozens of 911 attacks in other countries, it was a question of time before they would be strike back. The question of religion is irrelevant. It could have been Christians, it wouldn't have made the attack less horrific.

Seppos are so patriotic they dont want fellow citizens of different religious beliefs to have the same rights as they do.

Whats next, ban the Muslim faith as a terrorist organization. Why not bring back black slavery, that was allowed under the constitution wasn't it? But only because them black fellas were sub-human, -- same as them Muzzies are now.

One thing though- opening the place on Sept 11th would be a dumb idea.
The problem is, I've yet to find a credible source that says it plans to- it's being repeated a zillion times in the rabid blogosphere. So I'll wait and see whether it is true or not.

Anyway, this 'Mosque' that is being rabidly parroted in the Bloglight Zone is in fact a prayer room within a Community centre, no different to what airports have. Big deal- and that is not a Mosque, at all.

“There’s a huge Muslim community down there, it might be the largest in the city,” El-Gamal said, explaining the need for such a project in Lower Manhattan. He added that there is nothing like it anywhere else in the city, a much-needed 92nd Street Y of sorts for both the downtown and Islamic communities.

The 120,000-square-foot project, which is expected to cost $100 million, will include a 500-seat amphitheater, a Middle Eastern-themed food court and restaurants, athletic and recreational facilities, a daycare, and other amenities, as well as a prayer space, which has caused much of the furor over what has been dubbed the “Ground Zero Mosque.”

Imam Faisal said he believed the location will only strengthen the purpose of a center meant to be an extension of the Cordoba Initiative, a group he leads with the mission of improving Islamic-Western relations. “It’s become increasingly attractive because it gives us the opportunity to amplify the voices of the moderate Muslims who are the majority,” he said.

    The Architect's Newspaper

M'mmm. Looks like you will be able to get a decent kebab there.

Incidentally, the founders and backers of this Islamic project is the Cordoba Initiative- it is Malaysian.

I'm still not convinced there was anybody aboard those planes. What about the crash site in Pennsylvania, looks like a VW Beetle landed there. And The Pentagon being hit with a cruise missile in an area that was unpopulated. And the razing of TWTC's three buildings. These events all go together. I assume if one was phony all were phony. I hope you don't think these phat cats aren't capable of killing their own.

Hey, USA has been shamelessly interfering in many other countries around the world for decades, funding/mounting political coups and wars, invading and bombing other countries, killing civilians in the millions.

Just why would anyone believe it was shameful to think that USA would get back a tiny proportion of what they have been dishing out to others for decades? Seems like a fairly logical assessment of the price USA would pay for the expansion of their financial empire.

Do you just come up with this nonsense or is it part of your seething hatred that you cannot accept the events? There were indeed people on board those planes, or is the next part of your position going to be that the people that made calls from the planes were non-existant?. Do you think the PAX and flight crews just mysteriously exited the planes or were teleported away? The planes were shown flying into the WTC towers and yet almost no aircraft debris was recovered. In consideration of that, it is not unusual then that there would be limited aircraft debris recovery at the pentagon. The plane's entry into the Pentagon was witnessed by many people. The fire was intense. People died. What more do you want?

The plane that crashed in PA went into the ground nose first. There was a debris field. You claim the impact is of dimensions related to a VW Beetle. Other mentally unblanced conspiracy proponents use the 3 mile debris field to come up with unsubstantiated explanations that the plane was shot down. You need to be consistent with the other wackos, ok.

In any case, you have demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt that you are not playing with a full deck. Time to accept reality, that there are alot of nasty people out there that have hijacked and murdered people and that will continue to do so.

I also suggest you consider some continuing education courses, particularly in basic science. It's time you moved beyond your grade school education.

please provide me one example where Iraq citizens have hijacked airplanes and flown them into civilian buildings ?

plenty of examples though of US military bombing civilians,

like I said, the civilians on all side are collateral damages in an invisible war.

I think 99% of the world agree that America had it coming with 911, didn't surprise anyone at the end, which even explains the cheering in some countries.

It's really no different from the majority of Americans watching the "shock and awe" campaign live on CNN on the eve of the invasion in 2003, plenty were cheering the bombing of innocent civilians.

Were you one of them ?

Sure, just like France had it coming in '95.

I guess we'll all see a nice peaceful transition when your country cedes to its Muslim majority in about 20 years- get those burqas ready.

The jetliner is the poor man's cruise. we got the cruise we don't need to hijack.

If after all the 9/11 documentation you still can't count to four let Glen Beck do it for you, or James Jones, or the Branch Davidian. You're bound to find a savior through the channel selector.

in some ways they did, we were mingling with Algeria internal business, and it's still not clear if the Algerian government was involved or if it was the "extremists" alone.

it was nasty, and it stopped eventually by negotiation with the terrorists and the Algerian government.

not really, they are integrating, slowly and painfully but now most understand that France isn't against them like it used to. The burka issue is also strongly opposed by some famous members of the muslim community.
