I understand what you are saying, but the streets are not safe for the average family at night time in many cities because of yobbos. A few guns in the hands of ordinary citizens would, I believe, deter that kind of behaviour and may even get rid of individual problems permanently.
I have nothing against people having weapons at home, but I would not like to live in a society where people carry guns around with them in public.
