Actually this quite upsets me. I pride myself on telling the truth and the last thing I want is to be typecast in the same mold as you.Originally Posted by stroller
^ you telling the truth ? give us a break. You keep wrapping yourself into lies. I guess it doesn't make a difference after a while when you have been lying to yourself for so long. Reality and lies become same.

that's the great thing about the Military, never ask questions and be happy for the meat grinder. Except some apparently are just happy to sit behind a desk, safe keeping their "store"

I don't pay attention to whether people like me or not. I only hang out with a couple of people because so many people come and go. I do my own thing, for the most part. I like it this way, as now I'm older. What's really odd is your insecure desire to be liked otherwise you shouldn't have taken my comment so personally. Telling you I wasn't impressed shouldn't have been interpreted as a harsh or demeaning insult to you. Quit being a sensitive child.
I never took your "red" personally at all. I thought it was funny. You can "red" and post a phrase, but you can't post an argument for the rest to see.
Why? because you can't.![]()

You haven't put forth any truth. Just your weak ass opinons. But that's OK.Originally Posted by stroller

"If you like your life... and many of you reading this are American, and most of those who aren't are citizens of western nations - then you should step back from time to time to think about just what makes your life possible - and whether or not these things supporting the life you like are under attack.
Me, personally, I like my life - it has its ups and downs, but mostly it is tremendously satisfying - and while I look forward to eventually being in any entirely better place, I wouldn't trade my life in the United States of America for life in any other place in the world. Ultimately, this makes the United States worth defending - but I can't just defend those parts of America I particularly like; I have to defend the whole thing, lest I let an enemy gain a foothold in that area I don't like and then use that foothold to destroy the whole thing.
What this means in practical terms is that I must defend the ability of my critics to criticise me - and, in the end, I'm not talking about just saying I defend them...push comes to shove, I have to be willing to stand in front of Kos' house and physically defend him from anyone who would wish to do him harm for stating his views.
I bring this up because I believe that on the left, especially, there is a lack of understanding about all this - there seems to be a belief that it would be ok for the relgious right to be destroyed; that somehow the parts of America they like would survive the downfall of those areas of America they dislike. We're all in this together - left, center and right, we all are entirely dependent upon each other, while our enemies - the Islamo-fascists - seek to kill all of us simply for failing to be Islamo-fascist. I do hope that this starts to sink in - I do hope that our leftwing liberal commie friends will start to understand that without us, they die...and thus they might want to be a bit more accomodating of those they disagree with...the man you disagree with today, may end up saving your life tomorrow." No, I'm in total agreement with Mr Noonan. I'll be the first to admit that I struggle everyday with my decision to live in Thailand. I flat out love America and don't give two shits whether anybody in this forum agrees with me or not. And I'm the first to admit that I'm not sure how long I'll last in Thailand.Originally Posted by Whiteshiva

America tops in national pride, survey finds
U.S. leads 34 countries in confidence in democracy, military, economy
![]()
CHICAGO - U-S-A! U-S-A! When it comes to national pride, Americans are No. 1, according to a survey of 34 countries’ patriotism.
Venezuela came in a close second in the survey, released Tuesday by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago.
People rated how proud they were of their countries in 10 areas: political influence, social security, the way their democracy works, economic success, science and technology, sports, arts and literature, military, history, and fair treatment of all groups in society.

In the U.S., “the two things we rank high on are what we think of as the political or power dimension,” said Tom W. Smith, a researcher at the university. “Given that we’re the one world superpower, it’s not that surprising.”
Patriotism is mostly a New World concept, the researchers said. Former colonies and newer nations were more likely to rank high on the list, while Western European, East Asian and former socialist countries usually ranked near the middle or bottom.

^What are you trying to prove ? We already knew that most seppo's are stoopid.
Strangely enough I've started to realize how much of a compliment that is![]()
Is this really something to brag about? I my view, it shows a lack of ability to think critically. I am sure Germans in the late 30's were proud of their country too, as were probably the Chinese and Russians at the height of their respective revolutions, but in reality it just meant that the majority of the population failed to see where their countries were heading.Originally Posted by Storekeeper
Even more worrisome is when people brag about their patriotism. "Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel", according to Samuel Jackson, in my opinion is the first refuge of Fascism.
I come from a country which is far better that the US in terms of living standard, freedom of the press, health care, education, etc, etc. Yet I feel no need to go around bragging about it. I am happy I was born a Norwegian, but I feel no need to walk around boasting about it, or take pleasure in the lesser fortunes of others.
You need your head (and your values) examined, SK.

It behooves one not to take himself too seriously here.
So how is the muay thai shadow boxing going?
