$165K is middle class depeding on where you live. Alaska is very expensive and they have five children to clothe, feed and save for their education.

Who would be remotely jealous about a woman who has popped out 5 kids and whose pussie must look like the Lincoln Tunnel.

I don't know how anyone in their right mind can honestly defend her and believe she would be a good person to lead a country(when mccain dies)

^She's a cool breath of fresh air into Washington politics.
She's got that Reaganesque humor and TV presence along with a stable and pragmatic core belief which baffles the community organizers of the world.

Say hello to the 45th President of the USA.

Aparently the VP debates went "good" for the Rebublicans becuase the Alaskan lass says "dagnammit" "downhome" "howdie yall" and winks at the camera. This makes sepos think she is folksy and down to earth.

In my opinion she is synically playing up a one of the peopleness "bellow the gnat line Bush" style or she is a fucking idiotic dangerous imbecile

I don't think the point is generating the grist mill, nor is it jealousy . . . she can stay in Alaska and I'll stay here . . . to each their own.

I believe the point is that she portrays herself as middle-class, a fellow battler etc etc, when clearly she is not.
Americans used to be proud of the fact that they are successful, and so they should (without the 'in-your'face' attitude)- this is where they Europeans and Aussies have a bit of a hangover of the tall poppy syndrome . . . so why is it permissible for clearly successful politicians to tone down their success and declare themselves for less than they clearly are . . . for political reasons.

A silly move to be interviewed at her house, parading around the plane . . .

The cynicism is what grates, not the fact that she has money.

^What has any of that got to do with her Leadership abilities?

We ain't hiring someone based on their personality or how much or little they earn but on how well they can get the JOB done. BO has proven himself a divider when in the Ill Senate - voted 99% of the time "Present" or on the side of government handouts - look where that's gotten the economy today, eh?

Palin has proven herself a reformer taking on Big Oil, throwing out corrupt pols in Alaska. So friggin' what she's proud of her 'big' house and airplane? What does that matter in the whole sceme of things?

It matters none- as soon as she stops insulting people by calling herself a 'hockey mum'.

Sarah Palin is a very ambitious woman- there are even whispers coming from the Republican side that she sometimes puts herself above the 'ticket' and Mccain. I won't fault her for that, but as everyone knows she is just too junior for the job, simple as that. As has been cruelly exposed by her interviews with the press.

Real estate on a lake in Alaska is cheaper than the six acres by a lake Biden's home sits on. The pleasure boat is probably the commerical boat they use to supplement their incomes during salmon season. The airplane, it is Alaska, is probably used by her husband to get to and from work. It could be he has a friend who charters hunting trips and Palin's husband makes a little side money during hunting season flying in supplies to campsites. They are trying to survive in Alaska. It's not cheap up there. Has anyone reported that they actually use it? It may well be a restoration project or hobby much like someone restoring a '65 Ford Mustang or a sailing boat over a lifetime.

It's not like the media hasn't outright lied about Sarah and her family.

it could be that they grew the plane from a packet of magic beans, unlikely but just as much of a guess as yours.

The only information you or I have is what is reported in the media, how do you determine what to believe and what not to?

I don't suppose you'd like to expand on or substantiate this rather serious claim would you?

Or is the hope, as per, to simply hang it out there until it gains enough traction to be repeated as 'fact'?

Missing the point? I'm saying Alaska is a vast state. There is plenty of real estate bordering a body of water. It's not a rare as lakeside land in Delaware. That's right flash my version is about as accurate as the imagination of the others posting here about their grand lifestyle which incorporates the ownership of an AIRPLANE. Owning an airplane is not so uncommon in Alaska and nobody here on TD knows what they use it.

I believe the local county recorder when they say Sarah registered as a Republican and never was registered as an Independent sepratist as you posted.

MSNBC reporting her having an affair with her husband's friend. The report posed as a question doesn't excuse it. They should do some investigating before parroting the allegations of the National Enquirer. But if you want to lessen the standards then say so.

No she didn't. She increased it by 354% rather than increasing it by 454% over a multi year period as proposed by the legislature.

missing the point again, it has nothing to do with Delaware at all.

David Brooks is a conservative Op-Ed write for the NY Times. I've never found his articles very insightful nor stimulating, but he's giving his opinion now publicly like others, about what a bad choice Palin is.

David Brooks: Sarah Palin "Represents A Fatal Cancer To The Republican Party"

David Brooks spoke frankly about the presidential and vice presidential candidates Monday afternoon, calling Sarah Palin a "fatal cancer to the Republican party" but describing John McCain and Barack Obama as "the two best candidates we've had in a long time."

In an interview with The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg at New York's Le Cirque restaurant to unveil that magazine's redesign, Brooks decried Palin's anti-intellectualism and compared her to President Bush in that regard:
[Sarah Palin] represents a fatal cancer to the Republican party. When I first started in journalism, I worked at the National Review for Bill Buckley. And Buckley famously said he'd rather be ruled by the first 2,000 names in the Boston phone book than by the Harvard faculty. But he didn't think those were the only two options. He thought it was important to have people on the conservative side who celebrated ideas, who celebrated learning. And his whole life was based on that, and that was also true for a lot of the other conservatives in the Reagan era. Reagan had an immense faith in the power of ideas. But there has been a counter, more populist tradition, which is not only to scorn liberal ideas but to scorn ideas entirely. And I'm afraid that Sarah Palin has those prejudices. I think President Bush has those prejudices.
Brooks praised Palin's natural political talent, but said she is "absolutely not" ready to be president or vice president. He explained, "The more I follow politicians, the more I think experience matters, the ability to have a template of things in your mind that you can refer to on the spot, because believe me, once in office there's no time to think or make decisions."

The New York Times columnist also said that the "great virtue" of Palin's counterpart, Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden, is that he is anything but a "yes man."

"[Biden] can't not say what he thinks," Brooks remarked. "There's
no internal monitor, and for Barack Obama, that's tremendously important to have a vice president who will be that way. Our current president doesn't have anybody like that."

<b>Brooks also spent time praising Obama's intellect and skills in social perception, telling two stories of his interactions with Obama that left him "dazzled":
Obama has the great intellect. I was interviewing Obama a couple years ago, and I'm getting nowhere with the interview, it's late in the night, he's on the phone, walking off the Senate floor, he's cranky. Out of the blue I say, 'Ever read a guy named Reinhold Niebuhr?' And he says, 'Yeah.' So i say, 'What did Niebuhr mean to you?' For the next 20 minutes, he gave me a perfect description of Reinhold Niebuhr's thought, which is a very subtle thought process based on the idea that you have to use power while it corrupts you. And I was dazzled, I felt the tingle up my knee as Chris Matthews would say.

And the other thing that does separate Obama from just a pure intellectual: he has tremendous powers of social perception. And this is why he's a politician, not an academic. A couple of years ago, I was writing columns attacking the Republican congress for spending too much money. And I throw in a few sentences attacking the Democrats to make myself feel better. And one morning I get an email from Obama saying, 'David, if you wanna attack us, fine, but you're only throwing in those sentences to make yourself feel better.' And it was a perfect description of what was going through my mind. And everybody who knows Obama all have these stories to tell about his capacity for social perception.
Brooks predicted an Obama victory by nine points, and said that although he found Obama to be "a very mediocre senator," he was is surrounded by what Brooks called "by far the most impressive people in the Democratic party."

"He's phenomenally good at surrounding himself with a team," Brooks said. "I disagree with them on most issues, but I am given a lot of comfort by the fact that the people he's chosen are exactly the people I think most of us would want to choose if we were in his shoes. So again, I have doubts about him just because he was such a mediocre senator, but his capacity to pick staff is impressive."
