    ......................

Here's a partial transcript of the latest from Katie Couric's interview with Gov. Sarah Palin that aired on the CBS Evening News tonight:

    Palin Blanks -- Political Wire

COURIC: Do you think there's an inherent right to privacy in the Constitution?

PALIN: I do. Yeah, I do.

COURIC: the cornerstone of Roe v Wade

PALIN: I do. And I believe that --individual states can handle what the people within the different constituencies in the 50 states would like to see their will ushered in in an issue like that.

COURIC: What other Supreme Court decisions do you disagree with?

PALIN: Well, let's see. There's --of course --in the great history of America rulings there have been rulings, that's never going to be absolute consensus by every American. And there are--those issues, again, like Roe v Wade where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there. So you know--going through the history of America, there would be others but--

COURIC: Can you think of any?

PALIN: Well, I could think of--of any again, that could be best dealt with on a more local level. Maybe I would take issue with. But you know, as mayor, and then as governor and even as a Vice President, if I'm so privileged to serve, wouldn't be in a position of changing those things but in supporting the law of the land as it reads today.

Watched it. A deer in the headlights again. Sarah is very much aware of other supreme court rulings as she has spoke about them in the past. She is simply freezing up under the bright lights of national exposure. If she has any hope of getting through the VP debate, she must be herself, forget all the one liners her handlers are filling her head with, and stop claiming to be an expert in areas such as foriegn affairs where she hasn't a clue.

Folks, Palin is now a major liability for McCain. The word on her is getting out.

And this above, is just really, really bad.

Palin noted Russia. Here is a Major in the military comments. And, note the comments of a spokeswoman for Palin.

This is getting ugly. This is getting embarrassing.

After Palin's interview, officials say there's no Russia threat

Gov. Sarah Palin cites vigilance against Russian warplanes coming into U.S. airspace over Alaska as one of her foreign-policy credentials...
    By MARTHA MENDOZA
    The Associated Pressz

    PREV of NEXT

Gov. Sarah Palin cites vigilance against Russian warplanes coming into U.S. airspace over Alaska as one of her foreign-policy credentials. But the U.S. military command in charge says that hasn't happened in her 21 months in office.

....The spokeswoman for the McCain-Palin campaign, Maria Comella, said in an e-mail trying to clarify Palin's comments that when "Russian incursions near Alaskan airspace and inside the air-defense identification zone have occurred ... U.S. Air Force fighters have been scrambled repeatedly."

However, no Russian military planes have been flying into that zone, said Maj. Allen Herritage, a spokesman for the Alaska region of the North American Aerospace Defense Command, at Elmendorf Air Force Base near Anchorage.
"To be very clear, there has not been any incursion in U.S. airspace in recent years," Herritage said.

Storekeeper has come out today on the other channel to say he could not support McCain and a major reason was Palin. She is an idiot.

As these poll numbers reflect, Palin is a major liability to McCain. The more we look into this, the less confidence I have in McCain. Palin being picked shows the organization, influence, and power, of the Christian right in American Presidential politics.

Palin was picked purely to get the Christian right to the polls. (As well as some white "blue-collar and/or "working-class" white to the polls in this close campain.)

Sarah Palin Boom Busts: Poll Casts Doubt on Experience Prior to Vice Presidential Debate

Less Than Half Convinced of Palin's Grasp on Complex Issues, Experience

    ANALYSIS by GARY LANGER
    Oct. 2, 2008

Skepticism about Sarah Palin has soared since she entered the national political stage, with six in 10 Americans now doubting her qualifications for office and fewer than half convinced of her grasp of complex issues.
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Sen. Joe Biden will meet in their first and only vice presidential debate in St. Louis, Missouri, on Thursday. The vice presidential contenders have been preparing for the debate all week.

In advance of her debate against Joe Biden on Thursday, Palin now looks more like a drag than a boost to the GOP ticket: Thirty-two percent of registered voters say her selection makes them less likely to support John McCain for president, up from 19 percent last month.

Click here for a PDF with charts and full questionnaire.
Her basic ratings are weaker still.

Just 35 percent say Palin has the experience it takes to serve effectively as president, down a dozen points since early September; 60 percent think not, up 15. And just 46 percent think Palin "understands complex issues," while 49 percent think she doesn't -- a poor assessment on this most basic qualification.

This just shows, once again, the GOP's contempt for the American people. Palin's nomination is a wai to the religious right. They know they gotta get quite a few swing voters to pull this thing out. They just lost that chance.

Just as interesting is how they haven't learned from their mistakes. Granted Dan Quale didn't lose the election in '92, but he didn't help win it either. Palin is a Quale clone- young, inexperienced ultra conservative from a relatively small state.

^ Ya, Biden's state is SO big.
After watching Canadian political campaigns and speeches this week, I am getting more ticked off about American politicians reading from prepared speeches word for word. This is where the British parliamentary system wins every time, especially during regular house sittings. Fek, a Hansard is better reading than anything that came outta the US Congress.
The backstabbing and bipartisan crap in the States is also making me puke. because its based on personal crap rather than the issues.

Yet again . . . this is the Palin thread, Jet. can you not, for once, concentrate on the issue at hand instead of always referring to someone else in the hope of obfuscating the issue . . . exactly what Palin does when she has no clue . . . change the topic.

The interview is damning again and if there is anyone else left who thinks she would make a better VP than . . . . Scooby Doo, then they have their heads severely up their arse.
Honestly, do you think she is just sitting in the dark at nights hoping it would al just go away? Seriously, how bad must she feel being so far out of her depth and having not only her nation, but everyone everywhere making fun of her.

I'd not be in her shoes for quids . . .

Panama Hat has a point. Deck Ape posted about Palin and Qayle. And then Jet posts about the size of Biden's state.

The follow up does not make sense.

Now that Palin is showing herself to be lacking the attributes she was praised for, it is an opportune moment to state such. Well done, alas not believable given your posting history.

palin clearly has no idea who Hamas is.

    Frightening....very frightening.

She basically said she was endorsing Hamas - but the doesn't know who or what Hamas is - Hamas was indeed democratically elected.

But quickly, she switches to Ahmadinajad In Iran, who was elected (partially fair).

Then the went into Israel being an ally.

I am lost on this Palin. I am completely lost.

The 'young Turk' presenter also made a gaffe. He said Hamas, an organisation dubbed Terrorist by the USA, "they won in the Gaza strip" in a democratic election. Well, yes they did. Also in the West Bank, i.e. the whole of Palestine- those were national elections.

OK, when it comes to foreign policy, or the world in general, Sarah Palin knows less than the average NY Times, Guardian or Economist reader. Thats not throwing an insult, that is a fact. Indeed, an understatement- I suspect we could add Time Magazine, South China Morning Post and several other publications to that list too.

How important is this? It is rather clear that the Palin pick was specifically aimed at a Demographic- and a sizable one at that- that gets it's news from USA Today, if it reads a newspaper at all. And, as was shown in the initial euphoria, they identify with her- hockey mum, teenage daughter preggers, churchgoer, the common touch- she's 'one of us'. But she is ignorant of the world outside of Alaska, and I have to say not very intellectually curious either- otherwise how could she not know Hamas? So, will they care- will it effect their vote?

I'm guessing it will to a certain, significant extent, although I am not really the best placed to answer the question- I've never been impressed by, or understood the appeal of populist picks or populist politics. You might say I lack the common touch, or even call me elitist. So it will be interesting to see- lets face it, their is a certain demographic that would vote Max Headroom as VP if he was running on a GOP ticket, and said he went to church.

Anyway, attempted analysis over. McCain, GOP what the hell are you thinking, and what have you become? This is astonishing. You wear your patriotism on your sleeve- but do you really care about your country at all, or are you just cynical, shallow wankers in search of political power at any cost? And don't think you've done any favour to Sarah Palin either- you haven't.

The GOP, the party of Eisenhower and Reagan, the greatest political force in recent US history, reduced to this. It is really quite pathetic.

What Newspapers Does Sarah Palin Read?

And another excerpt which shows how utterly stupid this woman is . . . it is simply so un-friggin-believeable . . . and Jet favourably compared Palin to Angela Merkel (who is currentlyin St Petersburg dealing with the Russians! Imagine Palin in that role!)

C'mon, D Ape noted she came from a relatively small state; I was using Biden's as a counter example. Apples for apples.
