This finding by the panel is just another example that Palin is detrimental to the McCain candidacy.
More Conservatives pile on to criticize Palin: We know that Brooks has stated similar things as others. Here' Brook's comment again. Note the last sentence.
Link: Another Conservative Realizes McCain’s Mistake with Palin « roger hollanderParker’s comments follow those by prominent conservatives David Brooks, George Will, and David Frum who have all publicly questioned Palin’s readiness to be vice president.
“Sarah Palin has many virtues,” Brooks wrote in a recent column. “If you wanted someone to destroy a corrupt establishment, she’d be your woman. But the constructive act of governance is another matter. She has not been engaged in national issues, does not have a repertoire of historic patterns and, like President Bush, she seems to compensate for her lack of experience with brashness and excessive decisiveness.”

^ Maybe so but conjecture.
Really, Palin was selected as a vote gatherer for a demographic cross sector- an early sign the McCain campaign was in trouble. Specifically the Religious Right- wary of McCain, Women- especially disgruntled Hillaryite's, and Mr and Mrs Joe Sixpack who would respond to 'one of Us'.
A cynical strategy- my guess a desperate strategy- but at first, it seemed to work. It energised the McCain campaign, and lifted his polling numbers to on par with Obama (for a short while). Reality soon enough displaces euphoria however, and Palins lack of experience, and abysmal performance in Press interviews soon brought her back down to earth. Now I think she is largely seen as an albatross to the campaign.
The final blow- she has been found culpable of acting illegally and unethically in the Troopergate scandal. In retrospect, we should think of the Palin nomination as a gamble, a desperate one at that. My opinion seems in the minority, but I also think she should be dropped as VP nominee on the Republican ticket. It will take them a while to live this one down methinks.
Trying to be objective (if I can be, I'm not sure), I think that McCain's pick for VP will go down as one of the worst in the last 50 years, or so.
It does seem that he didn't vet her enough. Surely, there was a criminal background and scandal check, and look into her past. But had McCain ever sat with Palin face-to-face, and discussed Domestic and International policies?
Here ignorance on Kouric's interview was disturbing to me. At least 5 questions where she could not answer. Even a question about McCain's policies.
McCain floated Ridge and Lieberman and the Christian right was very vocal and vehement in opposition. The Christian right went public about this.
Then, a quick decision, by a 72 year old candidate to pick Palin.
And yes, I think he was aiming at a particular demographic by choosing Palin.
This demographic isn't large enough to swing the states leaning blue, and strongly, blue.
Dumping Palin would be another major move. He could use the ethics panel excuse, although it likely wouldn't be bought.
Then, it can used against McCain as having poor judgment.
Sinking....sinking slowly and steadily.

Very nice post, Sabang.
IMO - It is too late to drop her with 3 weeks left.
He has well and truly fucked himself.
Sometimes there is a god.
I ain't gonna rest easy until the election is in the can. This is a nation, after all, that allowed Bush to steal the election in 2000 and then turned around and voted for him again in 2004. Anything's possible.
Just look at the idiots in this video:
"[They] find that, although Walt Monegan’s refusal to fire Trooper Michael Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Gov. Sarah Palin, it was likely a contributing factor to his termination as a commissioner of public safety. In spite of that, Governor Palin’s firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercie of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads."
“Guilty as sin, free as a bird, it’s a great country.”
Oh wait, that was a quote from a different person.![]()
A Deplorable Bitter Clinger

Why would she have any idea, she is as thick as a two by four . . . plus it takes the emphasis off the topic at hand.
maybe you should explain how international news agencies work.
I am still very disappointed with McCain regarding Palin as his choice - I used the word 'cynical' the day he 'unveiled' her and it has been a cynical bite in the bum for him now.
Serves him right, but he has lost a lot of credibility

Wow some really compelling stuff!
Are they getting the gas chamber ready?A legislative investigator found that Palin violated state ethics laws and abused her power by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper.
No wait.....
"This is the opinion of this Legislative Council investigation," Griffin said. "It's just an opinion."It might take a while to fry her bacon!"I think the American people can tell the difference between the results of a politically motivated investigation and a legitimate finding of fact," campaign spokesman Taylor Griffin said.
I can't see this getting any traction.Under Alaska law, it is up to the state's Personnel Board, not the Legislature, to decide whether Palin violated the ethics laws. If so, it must refer the matter to the Senate president for disciplinary action. Violations also carry a possible fine of up to $5,000.

Politics aside, I read this line in the SMH today and found it quite odd, not just pertaining to her:
A devout Christian mother-of-five who is pro-life and a committed hunter,
And more details:
Link & entire: Palin heightens rhetoric on abortion - CNN.comPalin opposes abortion in all cases, including rape and incest, except when a mother's life is in danger, and said she believes Roe v. Wade should be overturned and the decision given to the states.
It all comes back to the devout Christian bit, hence people like her see no contradiction. God gave man over the earth and all on it (i.e. animals) so it's ok to exploit and pillage it all.
Of course what it really boils down to is Douglas Adams' puddle of water in the pothole - the puddle thinks that as the pothole fits it perfectly then it follows that the pothole must've been made for it. And when the sun comes out and starts evapourating the puddle the puddle still insists that it fits.

We have limits on certain things in the 'civilized' world and one of them is the numbers of fish we catch, deer we bring down and moose we drop. Don't see a bit of contridiction between a good church-going person and a hunter but perhaps in your Kumbaya World (where everything is as you think it should be) it's all lovely Unicorns dancing in the fields and no Moose get harvested, eh?![]()

Palin has skirted ethics before - AP - 15 Oct 2008 - NZ Herald: International and World NewsPalin has skirted ethics before - AP
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate whose reformer image took a hit in a report concluding she abused her powers to settle a family score, has skirted state ethics rules before for personal benefit and used her office to help friends and supporters, according to an Associated Press review of records.
Palin's first try at statewide office, after six years as mayor of Wasilla, was an unsuccessful run for lieutenant governor in 2002. To raise money, she improperly used her City Hall office and equipment, city records show. A year later she would make headlines by blasting a fellow Republican for, among other things, improperly using his government position to boost his campaign.
Then, in 2006, Palin won the governor's race with a vow to reform state ethics. But in less than two years, she has repeatedly taken actions that violated her own stated standards for ethical behavior - if not state law. In the process, the Republican vice presidential nominee has become much like the old-school politicians she attacked during her rise to power.
Some examples:
* She pummeled opponents for giving oil companies and other businesses too much control of state government. Yet she appointed the founder of an engineering firm that received $6.8 million in state business as head of the transportation department.
* She has accepted dozens of gifts worth tens of thousands of dollars since taking office, including two free trips last year that she failed to report on disclosure forms, despite criticizing state legislators for the gifts they take.
* She is under another investigation, accused of misusing her office to campaign against a voter referendum calling for tighter mining regulations. Her husband, Todd, has accepted free trips from a mining company to look at their proposed new site.
* Another ethics complaint, unresolved, accuses her staff of finding a state job for a friend and campaign contributor.
Last week, an investigation by the Alaska legislature found that Palin, running mate to Republican presidential candidate John McCain, abused her powers when she and her husband improperly pressured the state public safety commissioner to fire her sister's ex-husband, a state trooper. The brother-in-law was never fired, but Palin fired the commissioner in July.
"It's all about the power, and it frightens me," said state Rep. Beth Kerttula, a Juneau Democrat who like many in the minority party have supported Palin on some issues, including energy policy. "She doesn't seem to know where the boundaries are."
Even critics concede that Palin deserves credit for working with legislators to toughen state ethics laws and for providing more information to taxpayers about state spending. She advocated restrictions on lobbyists' giving, increased disclosure requirements for public officials and posted state spending details on the internet.
Palin also risked her own political future by exposing unethical behaviour by other public officials, even those in her own party.
But they say she often claims the ethical high ground when she hasn't been above questionable behaviour herself.
"She's very good at reading the public's discontent and pandering to it," said Larry Persily, who worked in the governor's Washington, D.C., office until resigning earlier this year.
Palin faced questions during her 2006 gubernatorial race about her use of the Wasilla mayor's office four years earlier to run for lieutenant governor. Palin used city staff and office equipment - including a fax machine, computers for email and a City Hall phone number - to run her campaign, according to city records.
She apologized for those transgressions in 2006, but only this month acknowledged to the AP that the city initially paid for a campaign flight in that 2002 race and that weeks later she reimbursed the city.
"According to people who worked with her at the time, the travel agency inadvertently billed the city rather than her personally," McCain campaign spokesman Taylor Griffin said in a written statement. "To ensure that it was corrected immediately, she reimbursed Wasilla and the campaign later reimbursed her. It's an example of Gov. Palin's commitment to the highest standards of ethics."
Palin brushed the issue aside when she ran for governor, arguing it was nothing more than an opponent's smear campaign.
She has cast herself as Alaska's ethics watchdog. In her most dramatic move, she revealed in 2003 that the state's Republican Party leader was campaigning from his state job. She then challenged incumbent Gov. Frank Murkowski two years ago on a platform of government reform.
After her victory, though, Palin reverted to political tradition, rewarding even marginally qualified friends and campaign backers with high-level positions.
A friend from her Wasilla High School class was named to manage the state's agriculture office after a career in real estate. A family friend and campaign worker became head of the state agency that distributes dividend checks to Alaskans from oil revenue. Her real estate agent's husband received an appointment to the state real estate board.
Palin claims passage of broad ethics reforms as an accomplishment following state corruption scandals. But Palin didn't report as gifts two free trips she received in 2007 as legislators were debating the new ethics law.
Democratic state Rep. Mike Doogan said Palin, even as she bends or breaks the rules herself, acts as if she invented ethics in Alaska.
"It's insulting to those of us who have always done the right thing," he said.

Judging by the opinion polls this week, the Alaskan Governor, Sarah Palin, probably will not get to be the US vice-president. But in her brief starring role on the global stage she has been a powerful psychic enema, flushing out the poison at the heart of establishment feminism for all to see.
No more sheathed claws or pretence about "tolerance" and "diversity". From Madonna to Sandra Bernhard, Pamela Anderson, Naomi Wolf, Lindsay Lohan and Kathy Lette, a certain type of influential progressive woman has been driven to insane rage by Palin's very existence.
Bernhard, a comedian in America, reportedly said Palin would be "gang-raped by my big black brothers" if she entered Manhattan, a comment she later denied making. In a deranged concert performance posted on YouTube, Bernhard calls Palin a "turncoat bitch [and] Uncle Woman … who jumps out of the shed and points her fingers at other women … You whore in your cheap f--king … cheap-ass plastic glasses and your hair all up. [You'll get] a bikini-waxed fresh Jewish t--t in your face".
Lette, the Australian expatriate author, described her as "very, very dangerous. There's something wrong with her … She's a post-feminist - she's kept her Wonderbra and burnt her brain."
If the tactic of luring Hillary supporters was really the aim for the goons who thought up Palin then it has gone very, very wrong.
Women don't simply vote for a woman because she is . . . a woman . . .
