BO undoing was the Biden pick. If he picked Hillary - he'd been sailing into the white house. Sadly another crushing defeat for the dems - oh well maybe in 2012.

I cling to this assumption (perhaps naively) that voters, just like investors, act rationally in the long term. As the reality sinks in of what the financial crisis is going to cost the taxpayer, both in terms of bailouts and lost opportunity through tight credit and falling house and security prices, and where the responsibility for that lies- the Bush administrations disastrous economic policies- I can see no way the public of America could vote the Republicans back in. No way at all.

Palin is quite obviously a Gadget, unqualified for the job. McCain has admitted he knows nothing of economics, neither can he operate a computer.

The only real question is why Obamas lead is not safely in the double digits. Many Americans must live in a vacuum.

    .
In reality Palin has far more credible qualifications than the "Messiah" himself.

But beyond that Palin will appeal to the same working class practical voter (read pro-life) who voted for Ronald Reagan over Jimmy Carter in 1980. That was a very close election as this one seems to be.

I suspect once the Republican attack machine gets into gear we're likely to see a rout the democrats haven't seen since 1972 where Nixon destroyed George McGovern almost 2 to 1.

I reckon the Republican "attack machine" will stick only to the Issues. Would be a pity if they should do otherwise.

I'm sure Jettie will be as intolerant of the Republican attack machine as she is with the leftist's doing the same.

Would have been a different race certainly. Hillary is more polarising without a doubt.

I suppose what I dislike most about the current republican ticket is not so much palin per se - but more than Mccain waited till Obama made his choice (i.e. not hillary) and then grabbed a woman (any woman) to stake out that territory. Aside from being female, I am honestly not convinced as to what she brings to the ticket in a really positive sense - and the positions she does seem to hold on "issues" are ones I am uncomfortable with (abortion, global warming, evolution).

You're lucky your mother was not practical.
Your response is neither witty nor does it make any sense - beyond a failed attempt at a veiled insult.

But I suppose one should not look for quality where there is none.
Over your head again, dear Spiff.

It'll be a rout for sure.

Don't count out Sarah just yet. She strikes me as eminently able to pull defeat from the jaws of victory....

    Standby...

The election is bringing back bad memories for Michael Dukakis.
Former Gov. Michael Dukakis said Monday that John McCain’s presidential campaign is using the same race-based tactics that were used against him in his 1988 presidential run. ...
Asked if he considered the ad to be in the same vein as the infamous ‘Willie Horton’ ad ad run by a third party group in support of George H.W. Bush in the 1988 presidential campaign, Dukakis told PolitickerMA.com: “Essentially, yes.”

Sure, BO says he gets no money from "lobbyists" (we'll forget that Freddie and Fannie and may banks and other corps gave/give him big bucks; not lobbyists per se, of course) and that he now refuses to accept public financing for his campaign. What a guy! Awww. Sign up for his emails, Herman. You can send him donations.
I am about to send him donations just to piss you off.

^ Cost you about $20 in Western Union fees to send him $5. A very Democratic use of funds.

Pakistan's president tells Palin she is 'gorgeous'

NEW YORK (CNN) – Sarah Palin and the foreign leaders she has met with in New York have said very little to reporters over the last two days, but the press happened to be in the room on Wednesday for one eyebrow-raising exchange, as the new president of Pakistan lavished praise on Palin's looks.
On entering a room filled with several Pakistani officials this afternoon, Palin was immediately greeted by Sherry Rehman, the country's Information Minister.
"And how does one keep looking that good when one is that busy?," Rehman asked, drawing friendly laughter from the room when she complimented Palin.
    "Oh, thank you," Palin said.
Pakistan's recently-elected president, Asif Ali Zardari, entered the room seconds later. Palin rose to shake his hand, saying she was “honored” to meet him.
Zardari then called her "gorgeous" and said: "Now I know why the whole of America is crazy about you."
"You are so nice," Palin said, smiling. "Thank you."
