Court decision may spell woes for Palin

The Alaska Supreme Court will decide whether to block the findings of an abuse-of-power investigation due to be released in coming days that could be potentially damaging to Governor Sarah Palin's vice-presidential candidacy.
The court accepted an emergency appeal filed by six Alaska lawmakers who claim the investigation is being manipulated to hurt Palin before election day on November 4. The court scheduled oral arguments for Wednesday on whether to suppress the probe's findings.

....Plaintiffs' lawyer Kelly Shackelford said Michalski wants the court to rule that the legislative investigation is unconstitutional. He said alleged bias by the probe's overseers violates a provision of the state constitution that says legislative and executive investigations cannot infringe on a person's right to "fair and just treatment".
Defence lawyer Peter Maassen said the legislature is free to conduct an investigation as it sees fit and the judge's ruling confirmed the separation of power principle. By the time the Supreme Court makes a ruling, the investigation will have been completed - all that will remain will be to make its findings public.
"There's been no time in history that a court has suppressed the outcome of a legislative investigation," Maassen said.

....Palin pledged her cooperation with the probe until she became the vice-presidential candidate. She has said through her lawyer she will cooperate only with a separate investigation, one that she calls unbiased but is conducted in secret and can last for years.

Palin is obviously from the Dick Cheney school of thumbing your nose at the Law.

We don't know at this time.

It's how it's perceived by the voters, or a certain percentage of the voters.

It's being reported on. Maybe voters don't care as there are many pressing issues going in the US. But it's being reported on.

If you have the time (and still have not made a commitment on who to support in this upcoming presidential election) watch this short (3 minutes and 44 seconds into the video) video.

I must admit that I find it hard to believe that the USA, a country of 300 million people which has sent men to the moon and is heaving with Nobel prize winners and otherwise exceptionally clever folk couldn't find anyone better than a moose-shooting reactionary to be (possibly) the most powerful person on earth. Is she the best that you can do?

Palin is Pissing off the Jews too

A very interesting article from Haaretz newspaper in Israel. Haaretz is the second biggest newspaper in Israel after the Jerusalem Post- and Israel is known to have some concerns about the Obama candidacy. They worry about his middle name Hussein, they worry about his having a less hawkish foreign policy than Bush & Co- and how that will rein them in militarily, and finally the VP candidate Joe Biden has been refreshingly outspoken for a US Politician about the Jewish AIPAC lobby group. No doubt some of them think he's a closet Moslem too.

But in her recent campaigning, Palin has gone beyond the pale- and has raised hackles amongst the Jews, who are understandably very sensitive to race hatred being invoked in Politics, or anywhere else. The Republican party and their 'pig with lipstick' are truly plumbing new depths. I'll be surprised if this does not backfire on them.

Obama-hate, and Sarah Palin's War on Terror

Sarah Palin has crossed a line. She could have used her powers of persuasion to advance her ideals. Instead, she has joined those who have chosen to fight Obama with prejudice. In the process, she has widened America's fault lines, equating her coy "you and I" with love of country. Her opponent, then, is the Non-Us, the AntiUs, and, by extension, the Unamerican.

Is this to be the Palin Doctrine - that the Right has a lock on love of country?

In making the Colorado declaration, which she was to repeat twice more that day, she drew a stark distinction between those who love America - her people - and those who love Barack Obama.

In doing so, and in tarring him as a man who consorts with terrorists, she has joined those who have leveraged other lies to extraordinary success, in particular, the lie that Obama is a Muslim.

It was the phenomenal power of the Muslim lie that has lent fuel to all others. The falsehood granted free rein to intolerance. It has successfully disguised racism as patriotism. It has granted false license to irrational suspicion and grotesque stereotyping on the basis of faith.

In short, it has freed people to hate a black man right out loud.

In painting her opponent as a fellow traveler with subversives and terrorists, Palin has joined those who have promulgated bigotry in inciting against Obama, those who say, in clear hints if not in so many words:

    1. Vote against Obama because you fear and loathe Muslims

    2. Vote against Obama because you fear and loathe Arabs.

    3. Vote against Obama because you've had all you can take of affirmative action, immigrants, names which defy pronunciation, pluralism, and bend-over-backwards tolerance.

    4. Vote against Obama because liberal Democrats are hypocritical wimps, not real Christians, and, in fact, closet gays - and deserve to be punished.

    5. Vote against Obama because the New York media and Hollywood deserve to be exposed and disgraced.

6.Vote against Obama because in this day and age in America, white people get the short end of the stick.

    7. Vote against Obama because the one group facing the worst discrimination is the community of believing Christian Republicans.

    8. Vote against Obama because blacks hate whites.

    9. Vote against Obama because even though Jews once helped blacks, blacks hate Jews.

    10. Vote against Obama because the Left hates America. Because liberals are ruining America's core institutions, schools, the military, the economy.

In segregating America into Us and AntiUs, Sarah Palin is asking for the votes of all Americans in order to speak for half of them. The half she believes loves the country. In denying Barack Obama his love of country, she has denied the vision, the values, and the profound patriotism of the remainder. In doing do, she does a disservice to both sides, and to America.

It wasn't our choice; it was McCain's. I can't imagine her as a VP. And if McCain croaks, we're stuck with her? Yikes. But on that same note, if some white supremicist assassinates Obama, then we're stuck with that idiot Biden. Scary thought.

Palin abused her power as governor

Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded today.

The politically charged inquiry imperils her reputation as a reformer on John McCain's Republican presidential ticket.

Investigator Stephen Branchflower, in a report by a bipartisan panel that investigated the matter, found Palin in violation of a state ethics law that prohibits public officials using their office for personal gain.

The inquiry looked into her dismissal of Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan, who said he lost his job because he resisted pressure to fire a state trooper involved in a bitter divorce from the governor's sister.

Palin says Monegan was fired as part of a legitimate budget dispute.

The panel found Palin let the family grudge influence her decision-making even if it was not the sole reason Monegan was dismissed. "I feel vindicated,'' Monegan said. "It sounds like they've validated my belief and opinions. And that tells me I'm not totally out in left field.''

Branchflower said Palin violated a statute of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.

Meet the real Sarah Palin- a vindictive Harpy who will not only violate the law to seek retribution for an individual dispute, whilst employed in a role of Public trust, but will even resort to unlawfully sacking a senior official who refuses to break the same law on her behalf. Goodnight Sarah.

Can anyone seriously support MCains pick of presumptive Vice President now?

You've really got to wonder what the selection process was considering all that's at stake, not even just the election but the millions of dollars invested in it. How on earth did they ever come to the conclusion that Palin was the best candidate!?

-'So we need a VP running mate then'

    -'How about Sarah Palin?'

    -'Who?'

-'Palin, she's the governer of our least populous state Alaska, has little to no experience, thinks that her proximity to Russia makes her a foreign-policy expert, wants victims of rape and incest to carry the baby of their attacker to term - you know just in case they forget the trauma they suffered - has strong views on pre-marital sex and has a pregnant teenaged daughter, and is currently under investigation for abuse of power'

    -'...'

    -'Perfect! She's the one!'

Palin in the clear... with her party

ANCHORAGE: Trying to head off a potentially embarrassing state ethics report on Republican vice-presidential nominee, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, campaign officials released their own report yesterday that clears her of any wrongdoing...

Ahh, but it was only a bipartisan legislative panel who found her guilty.
Surely her campaign officials must know better than them

^^^ Still an AP report, Ant? Doesn't NZ have enough $ to send its own reporter?
There is so much crap coming from both sides, one can only watch the debates and slum ads on your own and make a decision. Like MM says.
I don't like BO's background, principles, or ganga-hazed policies. If he wins, low-income America will do well on welfare programs for about a year (til the money runs out), then new taxes will get in and entrepreneurs will throw in the towel and big business which still pays alot of tax dollars will say FO and move overseas. Uh huh, then where's the bladdy tax base? From the welfare cases? They don't generate any tax revenue.
Fek, it's nice to give, give, give, but if there are no businesses making the dosh to give, there is no revenue and no fekin jobs.
Look at the charities -- they are all freaking because Wall Street has underwritten them for years and now is giving them nada. You think the govt is going to replace those lost donations? Oh, the govt will pay. Ya, from where?
