so just to be clear, you think it's fine that the president said he was making a personal sacrifice to show solidarity with the families....but in fact did not actually make that sacrifice.

Well RC, you know these guys. When it's a Republican, they're apologists, when it's a Democrat, they're rabid dogs.
    No consistency.

Simply not true (with me anyway).

RC would go to the end of the earth to discredit the president. I'm just exposing him for the petty, gutter-troll that he is. Bush is a dolt. But his decision to stop golfing makes a lot of sense. He'd be hammered in the press every Saturday morning the the press corps juxtaposes his golf photos with photos from Iraq. Sad but true commentary about the world we live in.

Whether he stopped golfing on a certain, specific day or whether a specific event was the impetus for him to stop golfing isn't much of an issue -- except to Ray who seeks to villify every holy sock, every stutter, every thing this man does.

    Ray is the obsessed wank.

oh, of course not. do you really think that posters are unable to see your true colors?
simply by stating "oh, i'm an independent" doesn't erase partisan, hate filled vitriol you've included in your 5000+ posts.

but putting aside your petty personal attacks, why won't you address the issue...

and how that is related to the larger issue of the hollow rhetoric of 'supporting the troops'.

Yes, I think RC is a little bit "biased", too.

But, in this case, he has a point. The guy said he was going to give up golf in support of the troops, then played it in the future. He's the president and should set a good example.

I understand that this play golf/not play golf is a minor and unimportant issue, but, saying something, then doing the opposite so blatantly doesn't make him look good.

But, then again, what do you expect from a politician. Personally, I dislike the whole lot of them, no matter what part of the political spectrum they come from.

    the quote....
Q Mr. President, you haven't been golfing in recent years. Is that related to Iraq?

THE PRESIDENT: Yes, it really is. I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the Commander-in-Chief playing golf. I feel I owe it to the families to be as -- to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.

Q Mr. President, was there a particular moment or incident that brought you to that decision, or how did you come to that?

THE PRESIDENT: No, I remember when de Mello, who was at the U.N., got killed in Baghdad as a result of these murderers taking this good man's life. And I was playing golf -- I think I was in central Texas -- and they pulled me off the golf course and I said, it's just not worth it anymore to do.

Let it go, Ray. It isn't a big deal.

I haven't seen him golfing in a number of years. Have you?
You reckon he does behind our backs? probably, eh?

I've ready your little gold nugget of proof and frankly, it doesn't get me excited. Not even a little bit.

But for the sake of argument, I'll put this little baby to rest:

President: I remember when de Mello, who was at the U.N., got killed in Baghdad as a result of these murderers taking this good man's life. And I was playing golf -- I think I was in central Texas -- and they pulled me off the golf course and I said, it's just not worth it anymore to do.
Did he say from that day forward he would never golf again? No, he didn't.
He said it wasn't worth it. Perhaps he was missing his short putts and losing $500 a hole to Rummy and Tommy Franks. It wasn't worth it -- that's what he said. He was getting his ass handed to him my the DoD boys. Wasn't worth it.

I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.
Maybe that one round 5 years ago after the point which you claimed was his PROMISE TO STOP GOLFING was intended to send the wrong signal. Maybe he knew OBL was watching the round from his cave in Pakiland. He never claimed he would stop.

You think he has one of those little putter jobs in the Oval Office? The lying bastard probably closes down the course at Andrews and golfs a few rounds with Tricky Dick Cheney when nobody can see. Floats blimps and circles transport planes overhead so the satellites can't catch him.

He a wiley little bastard, that George Bush.

i wonder if the families of those 4000 dead (you know the ones who didn't quit i the middle of the war) also think 'it isn't a big deal'.

and it hasn't gone unnoticed that you've failed to address...

If he plays golf or not, is a moot point, the fact that he took the question and tried to spin it into a publicity stunt highlighting his pain at the boys in Iraq, is just plain rude and sickening, an insult to the families that have lost loved ones over there.

He (shock, horror) should have just told the truth and said he was too busy at work or didnt enjoy golf anymore etc....

actually, part of the reason that this story isn't going away, is because apparently all of this (fall 2003) is 'coincidentally' when he was told by doctors that he couldn't go jogging anymore because of knee problems.

Texpat claims to be an independent and not liking Bush, but take offense when Bush is cornered and proved as the fraud that he is,

Texpat stop being an hyprocrite, you are a fraud and a wank like your Commander in Chief

another example of Texpat true color:

    Bush is a - why... 17-05-2008 12:01 PM Texpat Bush is a genius, you're a wank

    how witty.
    who clever.

you seem to have a natural affinity for dodging questions.

try to put aside your partisan inclinations for moment and just answer the question.

    The real questions are:

WHY are you so obsessed over this lame duck president.

    and

WHY do I derive so much pleasure from making you look like a complete prat?
