King Charles and Queen Camilla mark 20th anniversary with photos in Rome

King Charles III and Queen Camilla have released three new portrait photos during their state visit to Italy ahead of their 20th wedding anniversary on Wednesday.

The photographs were taken at Villa Wolkonsky, the British ambassador's residence in Rome, next to the Neronian spur of the Aqua Claudia, an ancient Roman aqueduct.

The pair arrived in Italy on Monday for a four-day state visit during which the British monarch will address the Italian parliament in Rome.

It is Charles's 17th official visit to Italy and his first overseas trip this year as he continues to undergo treatment for cancer.

It coincides with the 20th wedding anniversary of Charles and Camilla, who married on April 9, 2005.

Their wedding took place the day after the funeral of Pope John Paul II, which Charles attended as then heir to the throne.

    Busy Italian schedule

Charles is the supreme governor of the Church of England, and had been due to meet Pope Francis this week, but the meeting was postponed in late March because of concern over the pontiff's health.

Pope Francis spent five weeks in hospital suffering from double pneumonia. However, he has now returned to the Vatican.

Charles previously met Francis, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, during visits to Italy in 2017 and 2019.

In the past, he also met Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI.

His mother, Queen Elizabeth II, also visited the Holy See in 2000 during the last Catholic Jubilee year.

Charles and Camilla are scheduled to meet Italian President Sergio Mattarella on Tuesday and visit the Colosseum.

On Wednesday the king and queen will meet Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, after which Charles will deliver a speech to parliament — the first British monarch in history to address a joint parliamentary session in Italy.

The royals will also celebrate the cuisine of the Emilia-Romagna region and meet with local farmers whose fields were devastated by floods that recently hit the area.

Following that, Charles and Camilla will travel to Ravenna to take part in a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the city's liberation from Nazi occupation by Allied forces in World War II.

Emergency bill to save British Steel becomes law as King gives royal assent after marathon legislative session

The government's bid to save British Steel has passed through both Houses of Parliament in an extraordinary sitting on Saturday and become law after King Charles granted royal assent.

Emergency legislation giving the Government the power to instruct British Steel to keep the plant open passed both the Commons and Lords in a single day unopposed.

Ministers had taken the unusual step of recalling Parliament from its Easter recess to sit on Saturday after negotiations with British Steel's Chinese owners, Jingye, appeared to break down.

Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds accused the company of failing to negotiate "in good faith" after it decided to stop buying enough raw materials to keep the blast furnaces at Scunthorpe going.

He told MPs: "We could not, will not and never will stand idly by while heat seeps from the UK's remaining blast furnaces without any planning, any due process or any respect for the consequences.

Prince William Will Attend the Pope's Funeral Since King Charles Isn't Allowed

Prince William will be traveling to the Vatican and attending the funeral of Pope Francis on behalf of the British royal family later this week. And if you're wondering why King Charles isn't attending, he literally isn't allowed.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl writes in Vanity Fair that King Charles "will not travel to the Vatican, in accordance with protocol and precedence which dictates that the Sovereign does not attend funerals, Buckingham Palace has confirmed." And this isn't the first time an heir has attended the funeral of a pope on behalf of the sovereign—back in 2005, then-Prince Charles attended Pope John Paul II's funeral on behalf of Queen Elizabeth.

That said, King Charles did visit the pope just a few days before his recent passing, and he released a statement after his death.

“My wife and I were most deeply saddened to learn of the death of Pope Francis,” Charles said. “Our heavy hearts have been somewhat eased, however, to know that His Holiness was able to share an Easter Greeting with the Church and the world he served with such devotion throughout his life and ministry.”

The King’s message following the death of Pope Francis.

“His Holiness will be remembered for his compassion, his concern for the unity of the Church and for his tireless commitment to the common causes of all people of faith, and to those of goodwill who work for the benefit of others,” he added. “His belief that care for Creation is an existential expression of faith in God resounded with so many across the world. Through his work and care for both people and planet, he profoundly touched the lives of so many."

King Charles makes major decision about Prince William's reign

Prince William gets one step closer to take the throne after executing a major duty on behalf of his dad King Charles.

The 76-year-ol monarch has seemingly decided to hand over the throne to his eldest son Prince William by delegating him an important task as part of his final preparations to become King.

The future monarch has faced a 'wake-up call' for his future within the monarchy after attending Pope Francis's funeral in the Vatican City.

A royal expert and historian believes: "This is a huge deal."

The Prince of Wales appeared in high spirit and maintained a somber look as he joined more than 100 world leaders, including US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, to pay their respects to the late pontiff in St Peter's Square.

Royal Historian Alexander Larman weighed in on Prince William's iconic attendance, saying it appeared "unusual" for King Charles to not attend the funeral, it is in line with "royal tradition".

Larman, on GB News, explained: "Despite the very close relationship that the King had with the late Pope, it is for tradition that the ruler doesn't attend, and that the first in line does.

"Charles had a close friendship with the late Pope and in fact saw him on his wedding anniversary earlier this month, so a lot of people, I think, would be wishing that Charles had been able to break the protocol and attend today."

On William's attendance at the funeral, Larman claimed that the Prince of Wales has expressed "no interest" in religion.

"What's interesting about William's presence is that there's been a lot of discussion about whether Prince William is at all interested in religion, because he's never given any kind of public interview or statement about religious faith. And we know that his father is very interested in religion.

"And I'm sure that the King himself wishes that he'd been there to honour his friend and to honour this important figure."

Suggesting the move provides a "wake-up call" to William, Larman added that it may spur the future King to engage more with religion on a public scale.

Larman claimed: "Obviously, he is baptised in the Church of England, he is somebody who is an Anglican, not a Catholic, but nonetheless, he has never shown any interest in religion. He has never shown any kind of expression of faith or anything like that.

De described the move meaningful amid speculation of Prince William's preprations for his destined role, saying: "I see that this is not just an expression of leisure activity which has this huge, important value', which is more than just symbolic."

Noting the significance of Prince William's attendance on the world stage, Larman concluded by declaring that his presence will be "closely observed", and will put the future King among the "world's statesmen".

Larman said: "William, who clearly is being groomed as the future king, has been put in these positions where he is seen amongst other leading world statesmen, so I think this is the first time really outside of something like a royal wedding or a coronation or a funeral, he has been seen at a religious event.

"And as you can see from the pictures, this is a huge deal. This is an absolutely massive seismic day for so many people, and obviously, William's presence is going to be very closely observed."

With King Charles' ascension to the throne after Queen Elizabeth II's passing, Prince William has moved up in the line of succession and is now the Prince of Wales.

Key sign King Charles is finally listening to advice to slow down after hospital blip

King Charles is widely known to be a "workaholic" - but a major sign signals that he is listening to medical advice.

King Charles is seemingly taking medical advice that he needs to slow down, with the 76-year-old having taken on only four engagements since returning from Italy earlier this month. The Queen, 77, has expressed her concern about King Charles's refusal to slow down his workload - even after his cancer diagnosis and treatment. She has previously told well-wishers that her husband is "doing fine" - but that he "just won't listen and do what he's told".

The King and Queen Camilla stepped out in Rome for a four-day visit from April 7 to 10. And one week after their return, on April 17, the King made an appearance at the annual Royal Maundy Service. During his appearance, he thanked a well-wisher who told him he looked in good health, to which he jokingly replied: "You are very kind, it's all mirrors." Just three days later, on April 20, the King and Queen Camilla led the Easter Sunday service at St George's Chapel in Windsor.

The royal couple arrived with fellow senior royals, such as Princess Anne and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

They were, however, not joined by the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 7. The couple opted to mark the annual holiday privately in Norfolk with their children, who were all on Easter half-break.

The following day, the King met the Prince Minister of New Zealand at Windsor Castle on April 21. It marked the King's first official engagement since the death of the pontiff, the head of the Roman Catholic Church.

This decision is due to royal precedent. Upon the death of Pope John Paul II in 2005, the then-Prince Charles represented his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II at the funeral.

This evening, the King has hosted the Community Based Cancer Support Reception at Buckingham Palace.

In a statement, the King said: "My wife and I are delighted to host you here this evening to celebrate and above all thank those who so selflessly give care, comfort and reassurance to the 390,000 people who, sadly, receive a new cancer diagnosis across the U.K. each year. That is over 1,000 new cases every single day..."

He added: "...So to all the researchers pursuing pioneering breakthroughs; to the healthcare professionals providing specialist treatment; to the volunteers offering comfort, or campaigning to raiseawareness; and to the fundraisers enabling all this vital work - you have my whole family’s deepest admiration and gratitude. Your commitment to early diagnosis, evermore successful therapies and truly holistic care represents the very best our country can offer..."

King Charles reflects on ‘darkest moments’ of cancer diagnosis

Britain’s King Charles opened up about his cancer diagnosis on Wednesday, saying it can be a “daunting” and “at times frightening” experience for those living with the illness.

In a message shared at a reception in Buckingham Palace for cancer support charities, Charles said despite the fears that cancer can bring, it can illuminate the best of humanity.

“As one among those statistics myself, I can vouch for the fact that it can also be an experience that brings into sharp focus the very best of humanity,” Charles said.

Having the disease “has certainly given me an even deeper appreciation of the extraordinary work undertaken by the remarkable organizations and individuals gathered here this evening, many of whom I have known, visited and supported over the years,” he added.

King Charles to lead four days of VE Day celebrations as nation marks 80th anniversary of Second World War victory

King Charles will kick off four days of VE Day celebrations on Monday, as the UK comes together to mark the 80th anniversary of the Allied victory in World War Two.

The events on bank holiday Monday mark the beginning of four days of celebration across the nation up until Thursday May 8, exactly eight decades years since Victory in Europe was declared.

The King will play a central role in the commemorations, appearing on a platform on the Queen Victoria Memorial in front of Buckingham Palace alongside the Queen, WW2 veterans and the Prime Minister.

Later, the royal family will watch the fly past from the balcony at Buckingham Palace.

Normandy veteran Alan Kennett, 100, will formally start the procession after being handed the Commonwealth War Graves' Torch For Peace by air cadet Warrant Officer Emmy Jones.

The procession will see more than 1,300 members of the Armed Forces and youth groups march down Whitehall, through Admiralty Arch and up The Mall towards Buckingham Palace.

Representatives of the Ukrainian military, selected from the UK armed forces' training programme for Ukrainian recruits Operation Interflex, will also take part.

Actor Timothy Spall will open the celebrations in London on Monday when he recites some of Winston Churchill's victory speech from 1945.

The 68-year-old, whose roles include playing Peter Pettigrew in the Harry Potter film series, will read extracts from the speech in which Churchill told Britons: "This is not victory of a party or of any class.

"It's a victory of the great British nation as a whole."

From 9pm on Tuesday, hundreds of buildings across the country will be lit up to mark the big day, including the Palace of Westminster, the Shard, Lowther Castle in Penrith, Manchester Printworks, Cardiff Castle and Belfast City Hall.

    A moment of national unity

On Thursday, a service at Westminster Abbey will begin with a national two-minute silence.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: "This 80th anniversary is a moment of national unity.

"A time to celebrate that hard won peace, honour the memory of those who lost their lives, and remember the sacrifices made by so many to secure our freedom.

"Their legacy lives on today in how we stand together in defence of the values they fought for and which bind us together as a nation.

The UK seems to be a very dangerous country these days. The Markles feel safe in California, Colombia, Nigeria etc. but not in the UK.

King and Queen unveil Coronation portraits

King Charles and Queen Camilla have unveiled their new state portraits at the National Gallery on the second anniversary of their Coronation day.

The paintings will be displayed in the gallery's Central Hall before moving to Buckingham Palace in June.

The portrait of the King shows him wearing the Robe of State alongside his naval uniform with medals, and the Queen is portrayed wearing her coronation dress.

There was applause at the gallery on Tuesday as the couple pulled down coverings to reveal both portraits, before stepping back to admire the paintings.

Exact time King Charles to address nation on VE Day and poignant reason speech happens then

The King is set to honour "our greatest generation" on the momentous 80th anniversary of VE Day with a historic speech, coinciding with the exact date and time his grandfather, King George VI, declared the end of World War II.

Come 9pm on May 8, Charles will deliver a heartfelt live address to the nation from Horse Guards Parade in London, marking the finale of the national VE Day commemorations.

A special concert, which will be broadcast next Thursday on BBC One at 8pm, aims to blend performances, readings, and powerful moments into a narrative that recaptures the essence of VE Day and how the country responded to the conclusion of the Second World War eight decades ago.

The event expects over 12,500 attendees, among them several veterans of the Second World War.

Well-placed Royal insiders have shared that the King has taken great care in writing the address himself, ensuring it honours the sacrifices made for the liberties we cherish now.

A source close to the Royal Family disclosed: "It will be a fitting tribute to our greatest generation.", reports the Mirror.

Hosted by the talented Zoe Ball, the concert will feature a lineup of British talent like Samantha Barks, Fleur East, Calum Scott, and Tom Walker, who'll be performing songs from the era interspersed with re-enactments reminiscent of the jubilation from 80 years prior.

A star-studded line-up, including six Strictly Come Dancing professionals, among them dancer and cancer campaigner Amy Dowden, will perform stunning choreography to bring the stage to life.

Renowned dames Joan Collins, Mary Berry, and Sheila Hancock will also lend their voices to the commemoration.

Meanwhile, actor Brian Cox will deliver a powerful reenactment of Winston Churchill's iconic wartime speech, which preceded King George's address.

On May 8, 1945, the then King broadcast from a bomb-scarred Buckingham Palace, expressing gratitude to the nation for their bravery and dedication to the war effort.

With barely a hint of his stammer, he conveyed relief that the fighting was over and thanked those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

In a poignant tribute to "those who will not come back", he said: "Their constancy and courage in battle, their sacrifice and endurance in the face of a merciless enemy: let us remember the men in all the Services and the women in all the Services who have laid down their lives.

"We have come to the end of our tribulation, and they are not with us at the moment of our rejoicing. Then let us salute in proud gratitude the great host of the living who have brought us to victory."

In his VE Day speech, King George VI addressed millions across the UK and the Commonwealth, acknowledging the end of the war while cautioning about the difficult times ahead as efforts were made to restore global peace.

The Second World War saw Buckingham Palace and its surroundings targeted multiple times, with bombs striking the palace on nine occasions.

Following a close call on 13 September 1940, when a German bomber dropped five bombs on the palace, two of which detonated in the inner quadrangle while the King and Queen were present, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother famously remarked: "I am glad we have been bombed. It makes me feel I can look the East End in the face."

During his VE Day message, King George VI referenced Winston Churchill's earlier announcement from Downing Street, which highlighted that conflict persisted in Japan.

He expressed profound gratitude to those who fought with bravery on land, at sea, and in the air, as well as civilians who endured their hardships without faltering or complaint.

He concluded by reflecting: "With those memories in our minds, let us think what it was that has upheld us through nearly six years of suffering and peril."

The late monarch once said: "The knowledge that everything was at stake: our freedom, our independence, our very existence as a people; but the knowledge also that in defending ourselves we were defending the liberties of the whole world; that our cause was the cause not of this nation only, not of this empire and commonwealth only, but of every land where freedom is cherished and law and liberty go hand in hand.

"There is great comfort in the thought that the years of darkness and danger in which the children of our country have grown up are over and, please god, forever."

King Charles, 76, is set to follow in the Queen's footsteps as he makes a speech from Windsor Castle on Thursday at 9 pm.

King Charles's full address to the nation on 80th anniversary of VE Day

King Charles echoes his grandfather's historic VE Day speech as he marks 80th anniversary

At 9pm - exactly 80 years on from King George VI's VE Day address - Charles delivered a speech which quoted Churchill and called for the country to "rededicate" itself to "the cause of freedom".

The King echoed the words of his grandfather as he delivered a speech at the precise moment King George VI addressed the nation to mark VE Day 80 years ago.

At 9pm, Charles spoke at Horse Guards Parade in central London and called on the country to "rededicate ourselves" to "the cause of freedom" and "the prevention of conflict".

His grandfather spoke to the nation from Buckingham Palace at 9pm on 8 May 1945, to thank the country for their contribution as war came to an end in Europe.

Recalling the VE Day speeches, Charles said: "We should remind ourselves of the words of our great wartime leader, Sir Winston Churchill, who said 'meeting jaw to jaw is better than war'.

"In so doing, we should also rededicate ourselves not only to the cause of freedom but to renewing global commitments to restoring a just peace where there is war, to diplomacy, and to the prevention of conflict.

"For as my grandfather put it, 'We shall have failed, and the blood of our dearest will have flowed in vain, if the victory which they died to win does not lead to a lasting peace, founded on justice and established in good will'.

Stressing the responsibility we still hold today, he added: "Just as those exceptional men and women fulfilled their duty to each other, to humankind, and to God, bound by an unshakeable commitment to nation and service, in turn it falls to us to protect and continue their precious legacy - so that one day hence generations yet unborn may say of us: 'they too bequeathed a better world'."

King Charles III, Queen Camilla visiting Canada this month — here’s what to expect

Whether youÂ’re a fan of the Royal Family or just a casual observer, people across Canada have another reason to watch the May 27 speech from the throne, a document that lays out the federal governmentÂ’s legislative agenda.

Earlier this month, Gov. General Mary Simon announced King Charles III and Queen Camilla have accepted an invitation from the Government of Canada for a Royal Visit on May 26 and 27. The King and Queen will attend the State Opening of Parliament in Ottawa.

Parliament will be recalled May 26 and King Charles will read the speech from the throne on May 27.

The Royal Visit will mark the first time a British sovereign has opened a session of Parliament with a new government since 1957.

The throne speech is normally read by the Governor General, the sovereignÂ’s representative in Canada.

Royal visit will attract worldwide attention

Dr. Justin Vovk, a royal historian with McMaster University, said the upcoming royal visit should garner worldwide attention. ItÂ’s also the first time the British sovereign will open Parliament in the age of mass communication and social media.

“This is going to be the biggest ceremonial event for Canadian politics in some time,” said Vovk. “I think a lot of people will be interested, just because they’ve never seen it before.”

Five years into her reign in 1957, Queen Elizabeth II opened the first session of Parliament under the government of Prime Minister John Diefenbaker. Queen Elizabeth also delivered the throne speech during the first legislative session of 1977, but Parliament had already been functioning at that point, Vovk noted.

A detailed itinerary for this yearÂ’s Royal Visit will be published closer to the date by the Department of Canadian Heritage.

    A new direction

Vovk said the Royal Visit signals a new direction for the Liberal party of Canada under Prime Minister Mark Carney. The visit comes about two months after Carney met the King at Buckingham Palace in March during a trip to reinforce CanadaÂ’s relationship with Great Britain.

The upcoming throne speech helps to legitimize the new government and reinforces Canadian sovereignty, amid comments from U.S. President Donald Trump about making Canada the 51st state.

“Having the King come and be here in person during a period of such significance for Canadian politics, economics and even just our national entity, is really important for setting Canada’s national identity apart from the United States,” said Vovk.

When the King or Queen opens Parliament in Great Britain, Vovk noted itÂ’s considered the biggest ceremonial event of the year.

“To have that sort of pomp and pageantry on display here for the opening of this new Parliament is really a milestone moment,” he added.

King Charles coming to Canada to send Donald Trump message about 51st state

The Royals are coming to CanadaÂ’s defense, as the country wards off threats from President Trump to make the Great White North the 51st state.

King Charles has accepted newly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney’s plea to travel to Canada – on the taxpayers’ dime – to give a speech that will open Canada’s new parliament session on May 27 – a highly unusual move aimed to send the message that Canada is not for sale.

“That clearly underscores the sovereignty of our country,” Carney said on May 2 during his first press conference after being elected. “This historic honor matches the weight of our times.”

Good to see King Charles with one of his Prime Ministers. Even better, he's going to visit Canada.

I loved the recent photo of his lost and dimwitted son pushing a doorbell in Fulham. Thank Buddha, he is the spare and not the first born.

Macron accepts invitation for state visit with King Charles in July

French President Emmanuel Macron has accepted an invitation for a formal state visit to the United Kingdom to meet with Britain’s King Charles III.

Macron’s office said that the trip, which will also include a summit between the French leader and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, will take place from July 8 to 10. Such meetings used to be an annual ritual, but were suspended during the acrimonious Brexit negotiations.

The Elysée Palace said in a statement that the visit “will show the depth of the ties that unite our two countries and our two people.”

With the war raging in Ukraine and European security a concern amid threats from Russia, it’s expected the summit will focus on defense and security, an area where the French and the British have in the past worked together closely.

Ties between France and the United Kingdom have improved since the frosty days of tense Brexit negotiations, which concluded with a deal in 2020. Starmer’s effort to reset relations with the bloc have helped further thaw London’s relationships with both Brussels and Paris.

The visit will also be an opportunity to address some thorny issues that divide the two countries. France has been playing hardball on reset talks between the EU and the U.K. — Paris wants London to commit to extending fishing rights for EU trawlers in British waters beyond a looming deadline next year.

I see there's been a bit of speculation Mr. Markle was trying to buy some coke in Fulham. FFS, the Californian clown can't go a couple of days without some coke.

King Charles orders 160k UK-made electric car sparking speculation he’ll DITCH iconic state Bentley

KING Charles has ordered a British-made Ł160,000 electric Lotus car.

His move will spark speculation that he will ditch the state Bentleys if the company cannot provide plug-in versions.

Charles intends to use his top-spec Lotus Eletre — painted in traditional Royal Claret — as a personal runaround on one of his country estates.

It is thought that using the colour, which adorns the Royal Family’s official fleet of state cars, was the idea of the late Queen Mother.

An insider said: “The King has always liked eco-friendly vehicles but seems conscious that royal claret is the right look even when off-duty.

It will look far more professional for the King’s personal car to match the state vehicles.

The Palace has hinted that if Bentley can’t make limousines for official use run on electric, then they would look at other manufacturers.

The fact Lotus can produce an electric SUV in royal claret really puts them in the driving seat.

The Royal Family had a Lotus Eletre last year on loan and it clearly ticked some boxes.”

The King — increasingly spotted at his homes at Balmoral, Sandringham, and Highgrove — has most recently been using a Ł100,000 eco-friendly Audi Q8.

King Charles shares huge health update amid cancer battle

King Charles has shared an important update on his ongoing cancer battle.

Charles was seen visiting local business owners in the Yorkshire town of Bradford in the UK when he shared a meaningful exchange with a resident.

Safeena Khan, who runs a local floristry business, presented King Charles with a bouquet inspired by his gardens at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire.

She told the King that she too had battled cancer, and this sparked Charles to make his own admission.

Khan said: “He asked me how I was, and I asked him how he was. There were some pleasantries towards the end, but it was a lovely conversation.”

The King, who still undergoes a weekly cycle of cancer treatment, gave her the “thumbs up”, when asked about his health, and told her: “I’d like to think I’m on the better side [of my cancer journey]”.

Khan continued: “It is not something easy to discuss. Two years on [from my own cancer journey], I still find it difficult.

“I think you have to accept that you’re going through it first, and then the fight begins. I think the key is that you don’t give up on yourself. The biggest form of disrespect to yourself is giving up.”

The King has been undergoing regular cancer treatment since his diagnosis early last year, and concerns were sparked last month when it emerged that he’d been taken to hospital after experiencing “temporary side effects”.
