King Charles and Queen Camilla are expected to visit Spain in early 2024, Spanish media have claimed.

The reports suggest that King Felipe "expressed his wish" for King Charles to visit Spain "soon", during a private meeting when the Spanish royals visited the UK back in November 2022.

The royal visit will reportedly take place either towards the end of January or start of February and it will be the first one since the UK left the EU officially in 2020.

Charles last visited Madrid back in 2013 as Prince of Wales and this one is said to mark the beginning of a new era of collaboration and mutual understanding between the two countries.

According to Spanish newspaper El Debate, King Felipe is set to award Charles with the Order of the Golden Fleece - one of the country's highest honours.

This gesture will mark a milestone in relations between the two royal houses and will be a highlight of the year's diplomatic agenda.

The newspaper added that the occasion is of particular significance as it symbolises the continuity and strengthening of the historic ties between Spain and the UK.

The Golden Fleece, with its roots dating back to the Middle Ages, is a distinction of great prestige and historical significance. Awarded exclusively by the King of Spain, this honour highlights the importance of the relationship between the two nations and underlines the positive contribution of Charles to the diplomatic and cultural sphere.

Princess Leonor was officially given the order by her father in 2015, but it wasn't ceremoniously presented to her until 2018.

The princess wore it on her jacket when she swore allegiance to the Spanish Constitution on October 31.

The British and Spanish royal families have common ties to Queen Victoria.

Felipe's great-grandfather, Alfonso XIII married Queen Victoria’s granddaughter, Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, who was his royal consort until he abdicated in 1931 and the Spanish monarchy abolished with the proclamation of the Second Republic.

Meanwhile, Spanish sources claimed Leonor will have a prominent role during the King and Queen's visit to the country.

The heiress to the throne has "consolidated" her institutional status ever since her swearing-in to the constitution.

The sources went on to add that Leonor will most likely attend a gala dinner at the Royal Palace at which she will wear a tiara for the first time from the Spanish royal family's jewellery collection and a long dress.

The Spanish royal household's jewellery collection is not one of the most extensive in Europe and although it has some pieces reserved in theory only for queens, there are other more discreet pieces of jewellery that would be perfect for Princess Leonor's debut.

Among these pieces is the Prussian tiara, very special for Queen Sofia, as it is a family heirloom, or the La Chata tiara or the floral tiara. Queen Letizia also has a tiara of her own, a gift from King Felipe for their fifth wedding anniversary, which she has only worn on one occasion.

A new official portrait of the king has been unveiled, created to hang in public buildings across the UK under an £8m government-funded scheme that an anti-monarchy campaign group has described as a “shameful waste of money”.

The Cabinet Office announced last year that it had set aside funds to offer every public body – local councils, courts, schools, police forces, and fire and rescue services – a free portrait of King Charles.

The photograph of the monarch in full regalia inside Windsor Castle was taken last year by Hugo Burnand, who also took the king and queen’s coronation portraits and their 2005 wedding photos.

Many public institutions displayed official portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, and “the offering of the new official portrait of King Charles III will enable organisations across the UK to carry on that tradition”, the Cabinet Office said.

“The accession of his majesty the king marked a new chapter in our national story,” said Oliver Dowden, the deputy prime minister. “Displaying this new portrait will serve as a reminder to us all of the example set by our ultimate public servant and I hope as many eligible organisations as possible will wish to continue this proud British tradition and honour our king’s reign.”

The Cabinet Office’s announcement last year was met with criticism amid complaints of shrinking budgets across Whitehall and local government. The anti-monarchy campaign group Republic called the initiative a “shameful waste of money”.

“At a time when a majority of local councils are raising taxes and cutting public services, when schools and hospitals are struggling, to spend even £1 on this nonsense would be £1 too much,” said Graham Smith, the chief executive of Republic.

He added: “The government has lost the plot if they think people want their money spent on pictures of Charles. They need to scrap this scheme and direct the money where it’s really needed.”

The official portrait depicts the king in his Royal Navy uniform as an admiral of the fleet, with his right hand resting on white gloves on an antique table and his left hand grasping a sword. He is standing in the royal residence’s grand corridor.

Public authorities can apply for a free portrait until 2 February, with delivery of the portraits expected to take place between February and April.

Britain’s King Charles III will undergo a “corrective procedure” in the hospital next week after seeking treatment for an enlarged prostate, Buckingham Palace said Wednesday.

“In common with thousands of men each year, The King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate,” the statement said. “His Majesty’s condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure.”

It added that the 75-year-old monarch's “public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation.” He had been expected to attend a series of meetings and events in Scotland on Friday, but they have been postponed.

A Buckingham Palace source told NBC News that Charles “was keen to share the details of his diagnosis to encourage other men who may be experiencing symptoms to get checked, in line with public health advice.”

The news comes on the same day it was announced that Kate, the Princess of Wales, had undergone planned abdominal surgery and will be hospitalized for up to two weeks.

The 42-year-old wife of Prince William, Charles' eldest son and heir to the throne, will take a prolonged break from her normally busy schedule of public appearances and private engagements, a statement from Kensington Palace said.

Charles acceded to the throne following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September 2002 at age 96 after sitting sat on the throne for a record 70 years.

She was 27 when she was crowned in 1953 — an era-defining moment shown on the still-new medium of television for the first time. In contrast, Charles was a veteran royal, who had traveled around the world many times representing the country, before he was crowned, aged 73.

Since then he has faced a number of challenges, including the ongoing controversy surrounding his brother Prince Andrew’s relationship with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The publication of Prince Harry’s book, “Spare,” last year also garnered unwelcome attention to the royal family.

The announcement that King Charles will undergo a procedure next week to treat an enlarged prostate has led to a rise in searches for information about the condition, it has emerged.

The NHS website’s page on prostate enlargement received 11 times more visits on Wednesday than on the previous day, after Buckingham Palace’s announcement that “in common with thousands of men each year” the king was receiving treatment. One person visited the site every five seconds, or 16,410 in total, NHS England said.

I told my former wife (Nurse Ratched) that I was having a problem peeing. She told me to see the doctor and he would do a prostate exam. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/healt...-prostate-exam

She didn’t tell me about the finger.

The doctor told me to remove my pants and to bend over.

I saw him put on the glove and vaseline. And then,……up against the wall I went.

Never will forget your first. Fvckin’ awful!

The king has undergone treatment for an enlarged prostate and is doing well, sources have said.

Charles was admitted for treatment on his enlarged prostate on Friday morning at The London Clinic in central London. Later that afternoon, the queen left the hospital, apparently in good spirits, smiling at reporters although declining to answer questions.

It is the same hospital where the Princess of Wales is being cared for after abdominal surgery. Charles, 75, took time before his procedure to visit his daughter-in-law Kate, who is on the 11th day of her hospital stay after undergoing a successful major operation last week.

A palace spokesperson said: “The king was this morning admitted to a London hospital for scheduled treatment.

“His majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness.”

Charles arrived back in London from Norfolk on Thursday afternoon for the procedure, after squeezing in a couple of behind-the-scenes official duties: the Court Circular recorded the king received Dame Polly Courtice, the emeritus director of the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, and Prof Robert Miller, the director of the Whittle Laboratory, on Thursday morning at Sandringham.

In a picture released on Friday on the royal family account on X, he was shown lighting a candle with the queen earlier this week to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

Charles issued a message before the commemorations, describing it as “a valuable opportunity for the richly diverse communities of this nation to come together and recommit to building a society free from antisemitism, persecution and hatred”.

It is not known how long the king will spend in hospital or the exact nature of his treatment. Charles was diagnosed with the benign condition on 17 January while staying at Birkhall in Scotland, after going for a check-up because he was experiencing symptoms.

He is understood to have wanted to share the news to encourage other men to get themselves checked.

One in three men over the age of 50 will have symptoms of an enlarged prostate, which include needing to visit the toilet more frequently, with more urgency, and difficulty emptying the bladder.

An enlarged prostate, known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, does not usually pose a serious threat to health, and it is not cancer. But patients may need to have several tests for the condition to rule out the possibility they have another illness with similar symptoms, such as prostate cancer.

Surgery is usually recommended only for moderate to severe symptoms that have not responded to medicine, the NHS website says.

NHS England said the “enlarged prostate” page on the NHS website received one visit every five seconds on the day the king’s diagnosis was announced, with further huge boosts in visits in the days that followed.

King Charles Leaves Hospital 3 Days After Prostate Surgery: 'Grateful for All the Kind Messages'

King Charles was released from the hospital after undergoing surgery for an enlarged prostate, the palace announced on Monday.

"The King was this afternoon discharged from hospital following planned medical treatment and has rescheduled forthcoming public engagements to allow for a period of private recuperation," Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

"He would like to thank the medical team and all those involved in supporting his hospital visit, and is grateful for all the kind messages he has received in recent days," the statement continued.

Charles left the hospital's front entrance alongside his wife, Queen Camilla, waving to the gathering crowd outside as he walked to his awaiting car.

The King, 75, was admitted to The London Clinic, the same hospital where Kate Middleton underwent abdominal surgery, on Jan. 26. The monarch visited his daughter-in-law before his own procedure. The Princess of Wales was also discharged from the hospital on Monday to continue her recovery at home in Windsor following a 13-day stay in the hospital.

Queen Camilla briefly spoke about her husband’s health on Friday evening as she left the private hospital, where well-wishers were gathered outside. He's fine, thank you," Camilla, 76, said about Charles as she headed to her car, according to ITV's Chris Ship.

Buckingham Palace announced on Jan. 17 that the King was seeking treatment for an enlarged prostate, and would head to the hospital the following week for the “corrective procedure.” His condition was described as benign.

“In common with thousands of men each year, The King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate. His Majesty's condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure,” said the palace statement on Jan. 17. “The King’s public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation.”

A royal source tells PEOPLE that King Charles would be capable of fulfilling his constitutional requirements and duties during this time, meaning that Prince William would not be expected to act as regent.

It's understood that the King wanted to share his diagnosis to encourage men who may be experiencing symptoms to get checked, and his openness has already made an impact. The National Health Service of the U.K. said the palace announcement on Jan. 17 prompted a 1,000% surge in searches about prostate enlargement on its website. The NHS says that benign prostate enlargement is common in men over age 50 and is usually not a serious threat to health.

King Charles III has cancer, Buckingham Palace announced Monday evening, sending shockwaves through the British establishment.

The 75-year-old monarch — who ascended to the British throne in September 2022 following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II — will continue with his royal duties but is stepping back from “public-facing” aspects of the role, the palace said.

The form and nature of Charles’ cancer have not yet been disclosed.

The palace statement said Charles was “grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention,” and insisted the king “looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”

A source close to Charles’ younger son Harry, who lives in California, told the BBC the prince had spoken to his father and will be flying back to the U.K. to be at his side. The pair have met just once since Charles became king — at his coronation in May 2023.

Charles’ health had already been of some concern after he spent three days in a London hospital for prostate treatment last month.

Buckingham Palace revealed Monday night that during this treatment, “a separate issue of concern was noted.”

“Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the statement said. “His majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.

“Throughout this period, his majesty will continue to undertake state business and official paperwork as usual.”

Responding to the statement, U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said of the king: “I have no doubt he’ll be back to full strength in no time, and I know the whole country will be wishing him well.”

Breaking the news to MPs Monday evening, Lindsay Hoyle, speaker of the House of Commons, said the thoughts of all British lawmakers were “with his majesty and his family,” and wished the king “a speedy recovery.”

And as tributes flooded in from around the world, U.S. President Joe Biden told reporters in Las Vegas he too hoped to speak with the king in the coming days.

“I’m concerned about him,” President Biden, 81, said. “Hopefully I’ll be talking to him soon.”

If it's early, he should be OK. Small chance he has one of those mutant strains. He can afford some pretty awesome drugs the NHS wouldn't prescribe so he will obviously get a full arsenal of weapons to take care of it.
