Truly frightening that there are 32 fuckwit Tories who actually support the absurd proposition the preposterous nonentity that is Suella Braverman should be PM. The judiciary are wondering how on her imminent expulsion from the post of Attorney General they can strip her of the honorific of Queen's Counsel given her lack of any ability. She demeaned the role by her very existence.
That's the queen of spades gone in the first round...
Horrified to see Liz Truss with so many votes.
Mind you, whoever wins will be heading for an election disaster. I don't see a winner of the electorate amongst them.
^^ Its really wonderful that this contest sparks so much life in one so old as yourself. Do you think you'll see another Labour Govt in your life?, its not looking likely.
Going to be a busy weekend of phone calls amongst Tory MPs
Remaining contenders progress to next round tomorrow
Chairman of the Tory backbench 1922 Committee Sir Graham Brady confirms the remaining six candidates can go forward to tomorrow's second round ballot of MPs.
* Many Scots would object and opt for a Norwegian style of relationship. Reality of joining the EU would be a minefield.
* Borders would be one of the biggest challenges due to geography among other things. NI should fully highlight this.
* No the currency question is not up to the Scots. It is highly unlikely that Scotland would be able to opt out of the Euro. They would never be allowed the special status afforded to the UK. Currently only 18% of Scots would support a transition to euro. There is no Scottish pound it is GBP printed with permission and is legal currency but not legal tender (there is a difference).
* Sturgeon is ultra left wing, if not a commie, then I would not like to live on the difference.
What's the latest?
The latest ballot:
Attorney General Suella Braverman has been knocked out of the contest
Former chancellor Rishi Sunak won, securing 101 votes
Trade Minister Penny Mordaunt came second again with 83 votes, followed by Foreign Secretary Liz Truss who gathered 64
Former equalities minister Kemi Badenoch and senior backbencher Tom Tugendhat also remain in contention
Candidate support:
Polling suggests Mordaunt would win a head-to-head contest against any of the other candidates if she is one of the two put forward to the Tory membership
She is also the bookies' favourite - surging ahead of Sunak after her launch yesterday
All candidates are now looking to scoop up votes from those who had supported Braverman
Next moves:
All five candidates have agreed to the first TV debate, scheduled for 19:30 BST on Channel 4 on Friday - with further debates on ITV and Sky News being planned
I can't see how it would be a minefield, though. Independent country wants to join, applies and the rest is up to the deciders
That's not what I meant. Of course they'd have the Euro, initially they'd have the Scottish pound
NI has borders in place, didn't take long and the same will happen with Scotland. As I said, borders exist everywhere (unless you're an island and then it's the sea.)
Germany has nine borders, Italy has five (or seven if you count the Vatican and Monaco), Poland has seven etc etc . . .
I'll not comment too much as my knowledge on this is limited
At the end of the day Scotland would join the EU, as was seen during Brexit. A resounding 'remain', which translates into joining after scraping off England
So next vote Monday but in the meantime there will be more live debates with the candidates on UK TV over the weekend than occurs in a general election and this is likely to be where the contest is won or lost between Truss, Sunak and Mordaunt (who makes great HiFi speakers btw).
Tory leadership rivals are scrambling to catch former chancellor Rishi Sunak after he won the second round of voting to choose Boris Johnson's successor.
Five candidates remain after Attorney General Suella Braverman was knocked out in Thursday's vote.
Mr Sunak won 101 votes, Penny Mordaunt gained ground on him, with 83 votes, and Liz Truss came third with 64.
Ms Truss's chances were boosted on Thursday evening when Ms Braverman backed the foreign secretary.
Former Brexit minister Steve Baker has also endorsed Ms Truss, and the BBC understands most of the 27 Tory MPs who voted for Ms Braverman are expected to do the same.
Former equalities minister Kemi Badenoch - who came fourth with 49 votes in Thursday's vote - and foreign affairs committee chairman Tom Tugendhat - who was fifth on 32 - both say they are determined to stay in the contest.
The next round of voting, when the candidate with the least votes is eliminated, takes place on Monday.
The five remaining candidates will take part in televised debates on Friday on Channel 4, Sunday on ITV, and Tuesday on Sky.
Its a great system which allows legal and illegal movement, its perfect for movement in fact and this is an EU strength.
Correct, my mistake. I was thinking EU.
Still validates my point about not always having been so, hence Scotland having one border isn't an issue
Still whining like a true Brexit-moron. Don't you people have a leadership battle to focus on to see who will fuck up your smelly island next?
A hard border between Scotland would be unworkable and won’t happen.
Scottish currency is GBP, (there is no Scottish pound) if Scotland gains independence and joins the EU then it would be obliged to use the euro.
Again for clarity, only 18% of Scots would want to use euros.
Ok, I accept that possibility, but why not? Borders exist everywhere.
As for the Scottish pound, it does exist, even as part of the GBP mechanism - but they'd soon enough switch (not heard of the 18%) as they're not as attached to the GBP as the English.
I was talking about the interim between licking out the English and joining the EU, in terms of currency. The best I could find was a 40% 'no' to replacing the GBP, but that was a poll done by 'Scotland in Union', a pro-UK lobby which makes Fox News look positively liberal. Self-described as "We are Scotland’s largest and most energetic pro-UK campaign"
much as i would like to see the scots try and survive on their own, once they are made aware of the reality of sturgeons madness they will abandon the idea. they would be bankrupt within a few years.
give them their referendum and provide them with the hard facts and put an end to sturgeons ridiculous fantasy.
You aren't very good at this are you. Next you'll be denying graphs that clearly show Germany's dependence on Russian gas and oil. Oh ang on that has happened already.
So moving on from the not very informed Kraut who seems to think he knows what he's talking about and spends his time on here attacking posters at every opportunity.
Tonight is the second TV debate, on at 7pm ITV. So far the contest seems to be descending into an unedifying mud slinging contest, which given Johnsons detrimental impact on the Tory party image is the last thing they need to be leaving in the minds of the voter.
Except is hasn't . . . well . . . aside from in your feeble mind, soap-dodger.
You don't do irony at all . . . it's obvious
And what if it isn't Sturgeon? As for bankruptcy, 90% of the British North Sea oil reserves belong to Scotland, according to the Continental Shelf Act and CS Order. They may have a tough time but you soap-dodgers would be right royally fucked.
Vote Tugendhat
Clearly had his dental work done on the continent.
No confidence vote today, busy times pre-summer recess.
This made I larf.
Translation: The pair of c u n t s are worried that they look like a pair of c u n t s.Sky News has cancelled its Conservative leadership debate after Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss refused to take part in the event.
The debate was due to be hosted by Kay Burley tomorrow evening.
Conservative MPs are said to be concerned about the damage the debates are doing to the image of the party, exposing disagreements and splits.
