You stated that Australia is a European country. It is a predominantly white country, yes, but European? For 50,000 years it was Aboriginal, vs gradually more and more white over a mere 200 years. Ok, lets not get into semantics, the point is you are making a distinction of a person based on their skin colour. Kids are effectively colour blind when it comes to race until they are taught that there is a distinction. I'm sure you've come across the bogans, the Queensland bumpkins etc talking about "Those dirty black fellas". Cujo did it above and then doubled down on it. I didn't think you were the type to want to teach your kids discrimination. Kids wouldn't be confused if they weren't told that white men are different from black men. Do you think kids are confused when they see Santa, the one and only, in every department store they visit and walking the streets too? And are they confused when they see him and it's not Xmas Day? He's supposed to come down the chimney on Xmas eve, having travelled from the North Pole. And sometimes he has reindeer, and sometimes he has 6 white boomers. And why does he have fur-lined boots, hat and coat when it's the middle of summer? Why do Xmas decorations and carols have snowy themes? All very confusing.
My dad was a black man who married my blond, blue-eyed white Australian mum in Sydney in the 1950's. Do you have an idea of what that would have been like for them at a time when the civil rights movement in the US was quite violent? We've moved on, and Australia has become a multi-cultural, open-minded society, spoiled only by the Pauline Hanson types, rednecks and bogans who would congratulate you and David on strongly making a distinction that Santa has to be white.

As a matter of interest, are wogs white, technically?
Was Jesus white, technically?

If being non-racist is Ult Left, then call me Ult Left if you want. I was of the opinion that non-racist is neither left nor right, just human.
